It was alright. Not terribly muddy but in parts just watch your footing. Unfortunately the beginning parts of the trail is riddled with litter and garbage. Would be nice to get a group of hikers together to clean up. The waterfalls are beautiful in the Winter time and I am excited to see them in warmer weather.

HikingGreat!Snow

Nice hike today with the fresh snow that fell Saturday made the trail somewhat smoothed out. Followed a pair on snow shoe tracks all the way which made it easy and allowed me to enjoy the terrain a bit more than having to survey the trail markers. I left my snow shoes in the truck as there was only 4-6 inches of packed snow for most of the way to the summit. That said, snow shoes would have been preferred the last 1/4 mile as the snow was more fluffy and a lot deeper. Clouds and snow blowing on the summit didn’t provide a great photo opportunity but took a few shots and made my retreat down the mountain. All said the hike was +5 hours at a fairly steady pace with a couple of 10 minute breaks.

HikingMuddy

We parked at the laundromat. Despite a rainy/dreary January day, the trail was easy, slippery in spots which was anticipated. We agree that this trail is a gem! Several spots to view the falls, trail markings were clear, orange “spur” markings. Someone left a knotted rope so we could propel down a 10’ rock drop so we could go down/up to the falls - thanks! We also saw a guy hanging around - we suspect this is his home. Several falls to see... great walk even in the bleak of winter

Nice walk, a little muddy. not bad. A little icy in some spots. Loved the ice formations on the rocks in the water

Several views of small/medium falls. Navigable on a January day with mostly bare ground.

Great short trail in really good shape for winter. Started out as a lot of snow but quickly switched to mostly a dusting of snow as the canopy is thick.

Great hike! I definitely would not try driving the road past the first trail parking area. It’s an easy walk anyway. Beautiful stream, worth a detour down there. We had to back track to find the right trail to avoid where the road is washed out a bit. After that, smooth going. Lovely lake, a sense of going deep into the woods, then the climbing to the top. Nothing too difficult. A few steeper slabs, recommend just being slow and cautious. Great views and area to explore on top. Wonderful day!

The most scenic part is the beginning falls. Lots of garbage. We turned back after seeing smoke from a bunch of little fires off the side of the trail.

Long hike deep into the wilderness with lots of variation in terrain and forests. We saw two dogs and one person. The dirt road could be driven with a high clearance vehicle. When walking in, the road was flooded. Stay to the left side. Definitely some great camping and swimming sites.

Biked in from maintained road; rough and wet; then hiked to summit. 2.9 mi from Crane Pond. 1st 2 miles easy, last mile moderately steep and a little dicey due to wet slick rock with leaves. Unusually warm day. Awesome views to the high peaks, Schroon Lake and into the Pharaoh Mtn. Wilderness. View is worth the effort.

Easy trail, some moderate incline in two areas. Nice views of several small falls. The trail was hard to navigate due to all the fallen leaves. Otherwise, good hike.

HikingGreat!

A natural oasis in urban south Troy. Parked at the Laundromat and u have to walk on this sidewalk around the corner to find the trailhead. You will hear cars and see some trash on the trail, but overall pretty good!

Super steep at the end. Wet and slippery. High clearance vehicle is a must to drive this far. Was nervous about crossing the little flooded area, but many others made it thru with their vehicles. A little longer than AllTrails claims
