Ruby beach is absolutely stunning! The sand is very soft to walk on and there are also many rocks on the beach to climb to get that Instagram photo. The water is the Pacific Ocean so it is a bit cold but not unbearable to go for a dip. I’ve been to this beach twice and loved it each time.

Nice little hike. There is a lot of elevation gain once you get to the waterfall in the form of stairs mostly but wasn't bad. I saw an old man with a cane doing it. I love the bridge made from a local tree.

Did this hike last week in the rain. Was still a great hike even in the rain. It was a bit crowded compared to some other trails, but a must do. Beautiful plants and trees during the hike. Nice waterfall at the end. Very easy hike.

Beautiful trail with bridges, tunnels and waterfall. Very easy until the very end there are a few steps to climb up to see the falls.

Overcrowded, extremely easy.

It was an easy hike, my 6 yrs. old son didn’t complain at all. It is a 1.5 miles from Lake Crescent Lodge. Old trees are beautiful. Thumbs up for those that worked hard to maintain the trails. Five star all in all.

Cool beach.

Exceeded expectations

Busy easy hike. Beautiful waterfall!

Short, easy trail to a beautiful waterfall. Numerous No Pet signs, but we encountered two fellow hikers who thought they were "special". Each had dogs! Folks, rules exist for a reason. We called each of these gentlemen out for their wrongdoing, but neither cared at the moment. We need to be the stewards of these beautiful areas! Oh, mosquitoes were minimal today.

Probably would’ve given this 4 stars if it weren’t for the crowds. The trail is short and easy, so it’s hard to spread out from others, especially at the end. The trail is very pretty though, although we found the trail 7-8 miles before it off the road to be nicer just in terms of serenity as well the rainforest type scenery (the name escapes me).

July 8th, 2018: Absolutely worth the trip to go when the tide is low. Loved exploring the tide pools, looking for starfish (which were everywhere), and having lunch on the beach. We went around + 1 ft so the lower the better.

This is such a beautiful area. We loved wandering through the rainforest with our three kids: 6,4,2

This was fun. The kids enjoyed it. So did we :)

easy short hike to beautiful falls, the mosquitos/flys were bad (use bug repellent or where long sleeves.) this is a very well maintained, very trafficked trail. visited during a Monday afternoon at the end of July and the trail / parking lot were packed.

Everyone else’s review is spot on. Lower Lena... no problem (very popular with a lot of chatty Cathy’s, small dogs, and families on the weekend) but Upper Lena is a bit challenging. Steep, trails overgrown with vegetation, often difficult to decipher or find, and random spots with heavy horse flies. I counted 15 downed trees that I either had to climb over, under, or around and I missed a switch back shortly after the lower Lena split and wandered off the trail. There was also another questionable creek crossing that was not clearly depicted. Needless to say I found Upper Lena and it was definitely worth it! Heard a mountain goat bleat in the distance around sunset but never saw one. A lot of deer activity at night near my tent (5 feet away/campsite #9) and mosquitoes were thick! Mosquito/insect repellent is a must!

Great hike, but really technical! I carried up 50 lbs on this hike out and back in a day! From a backpacker perspective, this trail sucks in a lot of ways! The trail up to Lower Lena Lake is pretty cut and dry, but upper Lena Lake is a lot more demanding. There were several downed trees which I either had to take my pack off and crawl under or crawl with the pack on. This was irritating and also low-lying vegetation which obstructs the view of the trail. The bugs were relentless at the top so bring plenty of spray. That being said, it was a beautiful lake and a scenic hike. I hike 2 days a week and just think there are nicer trails to pack weight on! Also, I would not solo this one again!

Beautiful beach to wander around. A few cool rock croppings to explore and climb on. There was also a giant pile of accumulated drift trees between trail end and beach we had to climb over - some areas easier than others.

Couldn’t get any camping spots. Thought they were supposed to leave 50% of the sites for first come first serve but I guess they actually don’t do that??? Decided I wanted to photograph Heart lake and that I wasn’t to be stopped. So I turned this into a day hike. Definitely wouldn’t recommend. I did the hike counter-clockwise and it turned into a 23 mile, 3,500 ft elevation change, 13 hour beast. Heart lake and surrounding mountaintops made it worth I though. Being on the ridge line most of the time is a real treat!!!

Hiked the loop clockwise today in 7.5 hours. The middle was scenic and crowded. The first and final thirds were unremarkable. Maybe it’s better as an overnight?

Spent three days backpacking the loop and for the most part, loved it. Most people do this loop counter-clockwise but we decided to do it clockwise to spread out the elevation gain. For the most part, it was great... but I think next time, I'd rather just get the elevation over and done with in the first 8 miles. Doing the loop clockwise spread it out over about 13 miles.

The first day was an easy 3ish miles to the Sol Duc River campsite #2. Didn't have any issues finding the site (all campsites are clearly labelled), we were right next to the river, and we didn't have any issues with mosquitoes or anything.

Day two was about 11 miles, from our campsite to Lunch Lake. There were A LOT of flies and mosquitoes once we were above 3,500 ft. We applied a generous amount of Deet to our skin and clothes and noticed that we weren't actually getting bitten, but the bugs were relentless. The lakes were especially bad, even with ThermaCell mosquito repellent.

On a side note, saw two bears at Heart Lake and another one at Lunch Lake. Plenty of people in the area though, so we didn't have any issues. The one upside to such a well-trafficked trail, you shouldn't have any issues with the wildlife! And when I say well-trafficked, I mean you'll meet ultra runners doing the entire loop in a day, day hikers doing parts of the loop, and plenty of other backpackers (especially if you stop at Heart Lake for lunch).

Another side note, there's pretty much no water on the High Divide between Lunch Lake and Heart Lake, so fill up before then!

Day three clocked in around 9.5 miles from where we were camping at Lunch Lake back to the trailhead. Most of the elevation gain was climbing back out of the Seven Lakes Basin and then it was pretty much all downhill from there! The trail is really rocky though, so watch your footing.

All in all, this was a great backpacking experience. Just wish there hadn't been so many flies and mosquitoes! If I'd known what we were in for, I'd probably have opted to camp somewhere on the Divide instead of next to one of the lakes.

Easy and worth it. Kids can even do it. It is pretty busy though.

Great views, and moderate level of difficulty if you’re not used to hiking. Easy otherwise and beautiful.

Beautiful and short hike from Lake Crescent Lodge, it’s a well maintained trails. Old trees big rocks and the Falls I love them all. The wood stairs are well taking care of. Going up the upper Falls is a little hard on my knees, but it’s worth it. If you want a little easier hike for your knees the lower Falls is a better choice. My 6 years does not have a problem with it though. I’m surprised he didn’t complain. We enjoyed it. I recommend this trail.
