Overall a nice hike with fantastic views from the tower. The east trail is short, .6 of a mile, but not terribly steep. The north trail is slightly longer, 1.2 miles, but provides a much steeper climb. It’s sad to see the old caretakers cabin in such poor shape and covered with graffiti. The tower is in good shape. I also did the trail to Stewart and Indian Lakes, which was a nice time. A pleasant hike, and a nice workout!

The most amazing view I have seen in the Adirondacks! My girlfriend and I did this hike on Saturday. It was definitely a little strange walking through the country club, but it is a pretty place and nice to look at. The road up to the trailhead is nice too, just keep an eye out for cars/buses coming and going. We finished the hike in about 5.5 hours with a long ~45 minutes at the top. It was hot as hell so we took the road back once down to the boat dock area. My girlfriend is not a regular hiker so it took us a little more time than more experienced folks. Somehow we had the overlook all to ourselves for about 10 minutes. It is definitely a popular hike, but once you get up there it makes sense why! Highly recommend!

Fantastic view on top - nice easy walk next to a river.

One of my favorites in the area, I've done this several times both before & after the re-route.

Good hike. I did the lake trail first and then the mountain to the summit and fire tower.

Did this on July 4th, started around sunrise to beat the heat. Very gradual and enjoyable with rewarding views at the top! It wasn’t very busy but saw several people starting as we were ending.

First time up Hurricane 9/9/18
Start weather was incredible at right around 50° with full sun. Trail will keep you busy but isn’t difficult. It took me about 1:53 to reach the top. Views were absolutely amazing. Awesome hike! Will definitely do it again.

Great hike with a little rock at the top to enjoy your view!

Beautiful summit ! Last mile is very cardio worth it...

Nice hike with great views. I parked at the trailhead at the end of O’Toole Road, then followed Gulf Brooke Trail, to North Hurricane Trail to the summit. If you take this route watch for the signs. At the fork 1.1 miles in stay to the right, and .9 miles later make a hard left up the stream bed. The summit is beautiful. The tower is nice. And the views are spectacular! Enjoy!

Terrific hike for someone looking to grind out a 3-4hr hike with a great peak. AT underestimates this hike, we clocked it at about 7.2 miles. Either way, moderate until about the last mile, and then it was game on. Challenging, but not entirely unmanageable. Taking some breaks, we definitely got it done with a reasonably aggressive level of exertion. Sweat through for sure, but a beautiful summit. We do tend to hustle up a bit, so maybe a slower pace would have been easier on the legs. Lots of different kinds of mushrooms to be seen too. Beautiful Colors.

9am start. Not terribly crowded. Trail well maintained.

Bugs were at a minimum (wore spray).

Great, short and moderate hike. The views are only seen from the fire tower and they are beautiful!

It was a great challenge! Fun to climb. The views weren’t there for us due to overcast and clouds.( 9/2 )All together It was still a tough hike up for my wife and I. We made it to the summit in 27 minutes and down in 28. We are in our late 20s and newer to hiking!

Flat for 2/3’s of the hike. The last 1/3 to the top is a grind of a climb. Great view from the top makes it totally worth the effort. Like others have posted, it’s a 7.2 mile round trip (more than what AllTrails has it mapped out to be)

less than an hour total hike, good ascent and beautiful views for the time it takes

Very gradual, nothing technical. Amazing views of Keene valley and Giant Mountain. Very open and wide summit, great for taking photos.

It took us 4:30 hours to finish the loop (actually we cut short the second half as many other hikers by taking the road back) and the views from Indian head did not disappoint us.

Hiked on August 18th. This was a very fun hike; not very challenging. The view from the tower was excellent! We really enjoyed this one!

We started our day (8/25/18) with Arab for the triad. We all enjoyed this hike. My daughter (10) said this was her favorite of the day. Nice and fairly easy hike from start to finish. Summit and fire tower views were gorgeous. Loved the steward and his newfoundland pups; great with children and very informative. We pulled in to trailhead at 9:50am, summit approximately 10:45, and were back in the car at 11:35. Great starting hike for the triad!

Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking views!!! Rainbow Falls was gorgeous! This trail was pretty easy, with the exception of the last mile (or so) to the view point, then it was moderate. As 2 experienced hikers, it took us about 5.5 hours to complete including a 30 minute stop at Indian Head and 15 mins at Rainbow Falls. There was really no guidance as to how to get to the trail from the parking area. You have to walk a pretty good distance through a golf course before actually getting to a trail, then it’s about 3 miles of steady gravel road (with bus traffic) before getting to a small sign that says Indian Head to the left. Once you get to the wooded portion, it’s much more interesting, with little falls sprinkled throughout. The views are definitely worth the hike! The most difficult part of this hike is it’s longevity. While Indian Head was beautiful and peaceful, Rainbow Falls made everything worth it for me. It was so serene and beautiful! Highly recommended!

Beautiful trail. I loved hearing and seeing the the water all along the trail. Very peaceful!

Unmarked (or minimum trail mark) but easy to follow

Hiked it on August 19, 2018...just beautiful. Lots of amazing mushrooms and views. My friends and I are making it an annual hike

I am a beginner hiker, trying to get back into shape. I found this trail to be moderate - had to take just a couple short breaks on my way up. I was surprised by the view on the fire tower. I will definitely be frequenting this trail. Great for a quick hike!

great hike for all levels, very pretty trail(once you get on it) and the view from Indian head is iconic! Had perfect weather today with no black or horse flies. can't wait to do it again in the fall :)

It is pretty. Very fjord like for sure. It is also getting very popular. I watched 2 tourists posing for 10-15 mins taking (what seemed like) hundreds of photos of themselves. Their faces were buried in their phones, saw them look up at the view maybe twice. There was also another group of French Canadians playing their music pretty loud at the top. I understand everyone has a different idea on what makes a hike enjoyable and I'm usually okay with it, but only as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else's trail experience.

Definitely the best non-46er view in the ADK's but word seems to be getting out about this place. Do Not expect to be alone on this hill. With the increased foot traffic comes increased trail debris as well unfortunately. I had to carry down 2 shirts, a gatorade bottle, a flip flop?, and countless food wrappers. Very disappointing.

Maybe posting up a Summit steward on peak days throughout the summer? I'd volunteer lol.

Great hike , awesome view , really recommend it to anyone who loves pretty scenic and waterfalls.

Great hike for my family! Somewhat challenging for my 9 and 6 year old but nothing unattainable! The view at the top, including from the fire tower and the nearby bench were wonderful even on a hazy day! The trails were well marked and a nice blend of natural rocks, small slopes, tree roots, etc. Watch your step and you will be good!
