Great trails with a great view awesome Sunday afternoon for the whole family.

Incredible hike! A little chilly with some brutal wind, but the experience was worthwhile. Be prepared for some serious rock scrambles. My hiking buddy and I were very surprised by the amount of snow still on the top of some of the trails beyond the poplar summit. Made for some challenging conditions on the way to and from the fire tower.

Nice short hike for a Sunday afternoon. the views from the tower are great and there are some great outlooks along the way

Best hike in CT that i've been on so far. just be careful with the doggos when you get to the top.

it's a good trail and close to my house. the trail is easily navigated and well marked

Most of the trail is on rock, so it’s more difficult than it might sound. You start getting views a little more than halfway up. It’s been hazy the last two times I’ve gone there (in August), so the vistas haven’t been as great as they can be. They are certainly phenomenal on a clear day. Beware of crowds (including weekdays) on one of the most climbed mountains in the world.

Hiked solo. Perfect day, still ice on trail for last mile needed crampons

Hard but rewarding. We didn’t even finish this hike just made it shorter by taking shorter way back, because in the beginning of November it was very cold and windy and because of that it was really hard to climb the rocks

greet hike red/blue trails are very well marked, the blue trail isn't marked as well but still easy enough to follow. I was pleasantly surprised how clean the peaks were we saw very little trash up there. We took a couple long breaks to enjoy the views and finished the loop in less than 4 hours.

Love the view. Clean air. No insects bugs or sight of animals or even snakes. Neutral for all. My favorite all time place.

Some pretty good climbing

beautiful views and awesome hike

Great medium effort hike. Nice views. I would not recommend going down the north side without crampons until end of winter. It is an ice fall now.

I took Bellows Pipe from Gould Rd. tried to hike up Thunderbolt but found it to be to difficult to get footings due to ice. I continued to take Bellows Pipe up to the summit, still very slippery but doable.. Great trip!

Hiked this trail with my fiance and my 8 year old daughter. Thought it was a great hike and tough in spots. Getting closer to the top it gets difficult and steep but well worth the view. A lot of water source and camping spots. We will hike this again but in the late afternoon to catch the sunset!

Amazing day! A little tough for the kids, but they loved it.

First time there, won’t be my last!! Pretty hard at the onset. You will be using all 4s to get up the initial ascent. As others have said it gets easier but don’t let easiER get confused with easy. It wasn’t that hard for me but I see the entire loop being a challenge for many. It’s well worth the effort though so take your time and be careful. See you on the trails!!

Great scramble to start, then it eases up. I like doing this in the colder months. Less people.

A lot of overlap with the snowmobile route so watch out. Even after a few inches of new snow, still dangerously icy underneath.

Love this hike❤

This hike was stunning, I hiked it a few weeks ago when there was at least 1/2 foot on the trail and gradually got thicker while climbing. Icy and cold, but I embraced it, because a "silent tundra " is waiting at the top for you, that is overwhelmingly beautiful. I Want to hike it again before spring!!

Great trail, well marked. My wife and I are from the Jersey Shore and the thinner air did take a small toll on us. Beautiful sights and great hike after driving 3 hours to get there. Should have stretched a little more.

Excellent Views! It exceeded my expectations! I recommend this hike! The very beginning is very steep, so be careful.

Great hike. Took the Thunderbolt Ski trail up and the bellows down. There are a couple of trees on the trail - nothing you can't scramble over. And don't leave your snowshoes in the car like I did, once you approach the summit, they will come handy. There was fresh powder, so it was a lotta fun. Beautiful weather too.

great for the winter a valley turned completely into ice

Great place to hike year round. Views are some of Connecticut’s best. Heublein tower is always fun. Connects to Metacomet trail when u want to extend the trek. Always a family favorite.

Choose when you go wisely, trails are often packed in warmer months.

On a warmer day (1/21), temps were in upper 30's. summit was 31degree. Had microspikes and proven to be essential for the hike. Saw another couple from Brazil who had cleats and after suggesting them gave them one spare microspikes. They were really thankful at the summit. Summit was little windy and we had to put the gloves and cap back on otherwise it was manageable with good jacket and thermals.

Climb is great but the trail is crowded, littered with bottle caps, glass, and has graffiti in a lot of places that kind of ruins it. Ice makes it very challenging.
