Fun for getting some easy biking in

on Chinquapin Loop Trail

Started at Prairie Branch trailhead last weekend—the one with over 6 inches of rain. Was very impressed to get as far as we did which was to the spillway. Having successfully gotten there we were very disappointed to have to turn around and retrace our steps due to EXTREME high water which we could not get over or around. The nice boardwalks up to that point had us thinking the loop was doable so beware after heavy rain. Pretty trail though

Extremely muddy (it has been a wet month though), but otherwise great hike.

Fun trail through the forest that is largely flat with a few hills. It's probably the best hiking/ trail running in the houston area. Best done in the spring and fall to avoid the heat!

Beautiful, well maintained trail near Houston. Easy to navigate and gorgeous foliage.

very nice, easy trail. Brought both of our dogs and they loved it, too! Just a few notes for anyone who hasn't been here that were helpful to us: there are no facilities- no restroom, no water, and be prepared to pack out any waste as we did not find any trash cans. there were some nice picnic tables, I can't wait to go back in the fall for a longer trip!

Nice hike on a cool fall day in late November. Half way through we turned around to retrieve the water dish for the dog. Hiked back to the trailhead on the Dogwood trail. Nice fall colors.

We did about 28 miles on a two day weekend. There was plenty of water in the 3rd week of February 2018 and the temperature was great. It's definitely a winter backpacking trail and not so much for the summer months. I like that it has a lot of options for distances.

Nice trails with lakes and sitting areas. Also area for horse trailers and separate horse trail. Great for trail ride and stop at lake for lunch and port a potty break.

Great trail, easy enough for a beginner. But as other reviewers said, it’s longer than 6.7 miles. I logged 8 miles.

Nice tree cover to keep you out of the sun. You encounter homes at a couple points along the walk, and can here the playground/road most of the time. It doesn’t feel like a woodsy escape, but it’s better than you get at the other City of Conroe parks.

it's a magical place , my 4year old loves it ♡ with a Rainbow bridge ♡

Great family hike. My 2 and 5 year old loved all of the little bridges, rainbow bridge especially, and playing near the creek. My daughter declared it her favorite hike yet because "it's the magical forest where all of the fairies live."

I went out late and spent the last hour trekking in the dark....has lights and plenty of cell phone power. Great trail, challenging for me. Beautiful hardwoods and pine Forrest. Look like they expanding Bike trails.

Could spend two days here.

I took two of my dogs with me. The trail is very well maintained. The signs navigating you through the woods were clearly marked. The trail shows it is 6.7 miles, my Garmin showed 6.9. It was a great 3 hour get away.

Great trail, clear of sticks and leaves. Easy to navigate. Some construction on the end of the loop, a little noisy but not a huge deal breaker. Would definitely do again.

Very nice trail, did end up getting lost a bit, and also ended up being closer to 10 miles when all was said and done. Nice trail did see a coral snake on the trail though so do be careful.

Really pretty. Trails split but are clearly marked. Easy to navigate. Humid due to the woodiness. Kind of hard to get to, no real place to park (coming from the recreation area of WG, where there's construction). Would do again, though!

Mandy, I too logged almost 10 miles on this trail, even though in several different sites it's listed as 6.1-6.8. it is a lovely trail but be prepared for the distance. also wear big spray..I spoke to the ranger at the gate and asked him about the distance, he said no, the trail is not 6ish miles. but I love hiking in this park. Trails are well maintained, and, as a solo female hiker, I've always felt safe.

One of my favorite places to hike.

Love this trail!

Good easy trail, well maintained.

Very peaceful walk. You can almost forget that you are in a suburban area. On today’s walk, I spotted a large red headed woodpecker, an armadillo, that completely ignored me as he dug around for his breakfast, a garter snake, and swallowtail butterfly that danced around me for almost two minutes. And I heard a Mockingbird somewhere in the wood trying to trick me.... lovely visit to the wood.

This was a really well, maintained trail with plenty of shade along the way.
We are beginners but enjoyed the challenge. Elevation was nice, not too hard with roots and turns along the way.

We didn’t bring enough water, lesson learned. It was a great way to connect with nature and found great respect for the peace and beauty of it all.

Towards the very end of the trail we got turned around and took a trail that led to a dead end. We called the park officials and they were kind enough to point us in the right direction. ☺️ We didn’t get a chance to swim but will definitely come back and camp next time.
Very happy trail!! We had the whole place to ourselves. ✌

Great spot to practice or go out with friends. The bike paths are not challenging, but you are going to encounter a fair amount of sand patches in which you can slide/fall if not paying attention. Great park overall.

Very pleasant trail. Took me awhile to get the hang of the signs at different trail intersections but a great loop around with lots of nature. I saw a lot of tiny frogs along the path. Just remember to bring lots of water!

Id love to know where to park for this trail and where I should access it from. The construction has it blocked off.

Beautiful trails to run so the scenery doesn’t get boring. It’s not all as open as I would have liked, but the main parts definitely are. There is also lovely wildflowers and a pond. There is a lot of sand/mud, and tall grasses as well. Mosquito spray is a good idea. But as there isn’t as much traffic I did encounter a snake while running so always keep an eye out!

Love this little trail! The trail is different every step of the way so you don’t get bored especially when there are so many fun bridges to cross!
