This hike was a lot harder than we expected. The part through the sand dunes was a real slog! The rest of the trail was nice through the forest and a along the road. We also went to the top of the lighthouse which had a lovely view!

One of the the best walks with a historic lighthouse at the turnaround. Lighthouse volunteers provide an excellent tour.

Nice peaceful trail.

Incredibly gorgeous with more varied terrain than I’ve seen even in mountain country. The climb up the dune is a challenge but will reward with beautiful vistas of Lake Michigan. Heavily trafficked? We saw no one on the trail on a Monday afternoon.

Most recently I hiked in the Tetons and Arches but this trail was more spectacular in its variety of terrain. All the beauty of the forest but dotted with gorgeous marshes, tip top sand dune vistas of Lake Michigan, and virtually no bugs made this a dream hike.
Add on the Ridge trail, we saw no one for two hours and felt like first time explorers. The boardwalks were in great shape, enabling us to enjoy views on both sides. Fair warning; at the near bottom of Island Trail, there is a very narrow section with a 4 ft dirt mound that you must scramble over. We were able to hand to hand pass over our tiny dogs but if yours is large Im not sure you can get through this section.

This trail was very pretty. It was marked really well and not confusing at all. The covered bridge was in a random spot off the trail. Definitely will bring bug spray next time. The majority of it was stroller friendly except the stairs, but if you have a friend who’s willing to help get the stroller up them then you’re fine!

went for a hike with my dog, stayed on the paved path most of the time (grass was still pretty damp), didn't make it too terribly far one mile in and one mile back. so far liking what I've seen, now I need to work the dog into taking longer hikes, break him in slowly

Used to camp here as a kid. This trail among many others at Ludington State Park are among the best collection of quality trails and shoreline in the Lower Peninsula.

Went for the first time and overall it was good. The weather was extremely hot and I thought the path would have been covered more but a lot more open field then I thought. I would definitely do it again. I had some bug repellent on but the horseflies were bad.

For the parents: Also thought it had great stuff for kids on the path, educational, however not stroller friendly in the woods.

200 plus stairs up is worth the view!

Just beautiful! Although it was cloudy i saw some turtles :) combined it with the ridge trail which was more challenging and a great landscape complement

Love going here with my 3 year old. This is our favorite trail!

went for a run there today was awesome perfect weather at 60 kind of wet became because it rained really bad the night before it was sweet going to the golf course that was all overgrown and turned into trails there was lots of really cool trees and it was neat to see old sand traps and stuff

Trails wind all over the place I tried to check out as much as I could there was some livestock they had some big cats owls and Eagles I probably started three or four deer running off trails down sub Trails into nice Lookout areas where they were resting

Lots of people putting in effort to make this place nice from their little farm and Co-op Garden to all the different trails well worth $3 to check it out

For the visually gifted, the grasslands trails offer a fantastic opportunity for the ornathologically minded. Though, trail signs offer those such as myself with poor sight an audio based guide to bird songs.

As for the Grand River, it’s beauty spills right over the banks giving shins and knees a first hand look at this West Michigan aquatic wonder. If you’re willing to get a bit wet, the trail along the bank of the river is a great view.

Beautiful trail, lots of mosquitos, and plenty or birding opportunities. 8.5 out of 10

This trail is located in the Grand River flood basin, so depending on the season sections of the trails can be flooded and there are plenty of mosquitos to keep you company. That being said, this is one of my favorite trails and I have been hiking here with my son since he was about 4.

The lighthouse had just opened the first weekend in May. My 8 year old loved the easy walk. We went up to the top-$5 for adults. Helpful volunteers manned the house.
Tip: you can’t wear a child in a carrier to go up the lighthouse stairs. The lighthouse does sell cold drinks and a few snacks. Open from May to Oct.

As far as a paved trails go this is pretty nice many more miles of trails connected to this as well. Very little shade, and lots of insects in the summer. Nice place for an outing though as there are many other activities available here.

I took the Lost Lake Trail, Island, then Ridge. It ended up being 4.15 miles according to my gps. This Trail was not easy at all, more like moderate. Beautiful views, so proud of myself for conquering this solo!

If you want a quick easy paved walk around the lake, this is your spot! There's a quick nature trail on the side. I saw a turtle and some fish in the pond. Was a beautiful day. Decently trafficked. Probably really busy in the summer time.

Easy hike. Still a bit muddy, but beautiful when against the grand river! Was very pretty. Different paths with different scenery. Cute park with a lake. Would go again for a quick relaxing walk in the woods.

cool area and much larger than it seemed

Not a lot of shade. Doesn’t really feel like a hiking or jogging area. A lot of natural oil rigs, and cars and dust from the dumps surrounding the place. Water is nice but it doesn’t really give you the outdoors experience. Not really secluded. Seems like it used to be a yard waste site and the Devos just filled it with water and some paved roads.

I had a good walk but there has to be better places.

A nice hike through the dunes. We couldn’t go in the lighthouse when we went (April) though I’m not sure if it’s open during the summer season or not. The beach was gorgeous. We only saw a few other people along the way, though I imagine it’s busier during the summer season.

Pretty views of the lake, easy trail, well marked, and very clean.

This is a great place to get a fantastic stair workout! View from the top of the Big Red Lighthouse and Lake Macatawa and Lake Michigan. Nice trails to continue on if you like.

Great trails, very rustic. Great for taking dogs

Nice trails with a little of everything, woods, meadows, lake and river. I've hike it several times and other than a little mud and flooding in the spring, no complaints.

Well marked trails. Easy to get to. Mix of paved and non-paved paths. Closer to highway than expected. Mountain bike trails look fun though.
