Hiked on a Sunday morning (1/13/19) after about 6 inches of snow on Friday. It was absolutely beautiful and we only saw two other people. Lots of snow so spikes are necessary for the incline. The last mile (the 0.5 out and back) was inaccessible because of the snow and the trail had not been cleared so you would need snowshoes for this portion. The loop had a semi cleared path though!

Rangers recommmended that I did not go up the royal arch without micro spikes! Flat irons loop was icy and snowy as it is!

Great morning hike before brunch.

We read an article that rated this as one of the top 12 winter hikes in Colorado, but it's closed until April. Boo.

a challenging hike especially if you’re not used to the elevation. Incline right away and pretty much the whole time, but definitely worth it.

Beautiful views! Bring some micro spikes because the top has some pretty icy spots right now.

Definetly the hardest hike I’ve been on, bring lots of water and a small snack. If you’re from the Midwest like myself be prepared for the elevation difference, lots of yawns.

Snowshoes or Skis necessary as there is 1-2 feet of snow at the trailhead with snow-depths well over 4' near the ridge. The trail had little use since the last big storm and needs some traffic to pack it back down.

We saw 20-30 other groups out on this trail during our 3 hour hike today. Gorgeous views. No snow on the trail, but icy in spots as was mentioned a few days ago.

Great hike! Beautiful views throughout this short hike near Boulder. Hop over to Instagram @2_Summit_Up or my website here2summitup.wordpress.com to see more pictures of this awesome adventure.

Hiked this trail in mid-September. Probably my most favorite trail ever. Well worth the scramble up the waterfall. Spectacular lakes set in a backdrop of towering mountains. And the colors were amazing. Definitely worth the effort to get there. Make sure to take the time to stop and enjoy the many views.

Great winter trail. Gets a bit slippery at the top so cleats or snow shoes are useful.

I hiked this with a group in the fall. Outstanding hike and view at the arch. Hoping to trail run up to the "false summit" in the near future.

Beautiful trail but signage was lacking towards the end of the trail so we never found the larger falls.

Great trail with great views, but lake was almost completely dried up during August 2018. Other than that it was great!

Nice short hike, rather steep, cool arch. Currently icy in spots, microspikes very helpful.

There are so many different offsets to trails that this particular one is easy to lose. I would definitely recommend tracking your hike on the app. I took the wrong way multiple times but it was still a nice hike, nonetheless. This trail has really nice views of the mountains and red rocks. Would recommend for out of state visitors. This is a nice space for close to home trails. Microspikes were not needed January 1st.

Hiked the trail today. Well packed fresh snow, no ice today like previous times. Didn't even get out my yak tracks, no need. Beautiful hike, deer were out wandering about.

Fun bit of exploring. Read the signs about the historic hotel site . . . Colorado's history is fascinating.

Trail snow covered but packed down. Cold but trees blocked the wind while still allowing some sun through. Most vehicles parked at fork in road 1/2 mile from trailhead-a but dicey after that.

Absolutely loved this trail! It was difficult and beautiful with an amazing arch worth hiking to. We hiked in Arches NP previously and this arch rivals many there, in fact, we were able to get directly under this one and were impressed with its size. The trail was well marked, offered varied terrain, and excellent views. The elevation, icy surfaces, steep inclines, and rock scrambles provided a nice challenge for us, but may make it challenging for some. Many parts of the trail had a thin layer of snow over solid ice, so consider wearing shoes with good traction.

I would highly recommend wearing spikes. It was extremely icy- especially closer to the arch. There were point I was crawling on all fours and had to slide down some parts on my butt because it was so icy. Beautiful views though!

Fun to get there! Lots of cool places to climb off trail and great views. Went in December- be prepared for cold weather and ice. Take extra traction if possible to make it easier, not impossible without though.

One of the best in the park.

My partner and I hiked Royal Arch Dec 26th. We left the pup at home, and I’m glad we did because some parts were icy and a little bit more difficult to traverse. I was surprised to see so many folks of all ages on the trail despite being the day after the holiday and how slippery some of the inclines were. It took slightly longer than I had expected but not too bad. I’m glad the weather held off until after we finished though, because I definitely did not look at the forecast. I would recommend making sure it isn’t going to snow/rain for about three hours before embarking.

Overall, the views were great and the arch is bigger than I expected based on the photo. Glad I brought a full bottle of water and let my small pup at home.

Well maintained trail. Gets icy so pack your micro spikes. The brass rattle snake near the trailhead is unsettling when you accidentally sit next to it. Easy trail to get to from the boulder area.

Went last night for a sunset hike. Was a great experience. Look out for the ice towards the bottom of the trail. It’s icy for about .6 miles in.

Excellent hike with a beautiful view your reward after steep climbing. Spikes needed in some areas today. Not all the great arches are in Utah!

Great place to stroll through and view the castle ruins. The trail is extremely wide and well maintained and with minimal elevation gain it is a pleasant walk. I would recommend hiking or walking this trail in cooler weather since there isn't much shade. If you would like to see the video of my hike visit my YouTube channel Tripaley Goes Traveling

Hiked this mid day on 12/22. Light snow to start then clouds and sun. Second half of the trail is steep and a fair amount of ice. Most people were in tennis shoes but we saw quite a few falls. We were happy to have poles and microspikes. The views from the arch are amazing. Great photo opp.
