Nice hike to do in the fall. We loved the water features along the way!

I didn't care for the trail. Too narrow of a trail, either pulling my dog behind me or he is pulling me out front. The gravel and bigger rocks were clunky and somewhat annoying. The trail meanders sometimes close to the lake, but then immediately takes you away from it. Just a couple of nice views, but other than that a fairly uninteresting hike.

Easy walk and pretty view.

Good trail anytime except when it’s hot outside. If you take this trail during the summer months, bring bug spray suitable for the construction of another Panama Canal

Good walk in the woods. Probably just missed the best fall colors. Well marked with good parking at the trailhead.

Nice trail with plenty of deep wooded features. If you are a nature lover you will love this trail. Lots of wildlife along the way, today.

It is absolutely beautiful

Very nice hike - fairly easy - just the distance. Waterfall is beautiful as is the overlook. Great walk for someone like me trying to get into shape and get some outdoor time. Was fun!

Good hike! The lot was full but overall not too much traffic on the trail. There isn’t really anything scenic but good to bring the dog for a walk

Great easy hike to just be outdoors, enjoy the woods and changing leaves. Easy for kids to join.

Great waterfalls!

pretty intense trail for such a short distance :)

I really enjoyed this trail. Fall colors were beautiful. Sinkholes were amazing. I am from So Cal so this was very different from what I see here. We also stopped to see Jackson Cave. Very enjoyable I would do it again.

I lost the trail about a mile from the campsite. What little trail there was had been covered by leaves and no markers in sight. I wound up turning back and doing the rest of the day loop to make up the distance. I am assuming that part of the trail does not get a lot of traffic .

Beautiful views! There are some rocky trails, so take your time. Also a set of viewing binoculars for people who are color blind!

Not much to see, minus the few lakeside vistas. I’d rate the trail as “easy” overall. Fairly flat out and back, well maintained, GPS watch found trail length at 7.8 miles total. I arrived at 8:30 on a sunny Sunday morning expecting many others. I didn’t see another on the trail until 11am, so it’s lightly travelled. Nice proximity to Nashville and do something different. Regular jet aircraft and boat noise heard on the trail. Real good trail running training route.

This is an awesome trail hands down! The trail along the ridge top is pretty uneventful and easy going, but it definitely gets tougher along the creek bed. There are plenty of water features along the creek and plenty of great spots for photos. The trail can be very rocky and uneven sometimes along significant drop offs. Definitely a good idea to have a walking stick or trekking poles for this one because there isn’t much to hold onto for balance. Definitely a great hike despite the difficulty!

I think the cover page is a little bit misleading. I didn’t see any water/creek on the one way trail. Maybe it is on the other trail you can take at the splitting point to the nature center. Oh btw, there is nothing except for four benches at the end of trail. It is nice for mountain running training but not for relaxing. Pretty boring.

Nice hike!

Easy hike to the overlook from the Ranger's Station with a set of color blind friendly binoculars just at the end of the paved trail.

my go to trail.... just enough elevation and terrain features to be sufficiently difficult, the lake view is wonderful, and there are multiple options for offshoot trails. however, the absolute best feature is the wildlife. I have hiked this trail maybe 60-70 times, and not one time was I disappointed by the wildlife... abundant deer and squirrels to keep you entertained!!!

Enjoyed the hike with my wife and our dog. I plan on going back to trail run it soon.

Any trail with this many lake views will be a favorite trail to me. I completed the Day Loop which is supposed to be 4 miles. My fitness tracker said it was 3.6 miles but that I had climbed the equivalent of 30 flights of stairs once I finished. The elevation changes are so gradual for the most part that it seems very easy. The wooded areas have several interestingly twisted and tall trees as well as beautiful rock formations. The lakeside portions rise slowly until you are rather high up on the bluffs over looking the lake and the surrounding areas for what seems like forever. It is easy to forget you aren't alone here as there were a few encounters with other hikers talk-shouting their way along the trail, oblivious to the others nearby. As my partner said, they would be the first to be taken out in a horror movie. Otherwise, I can see myself coming back here again and again.

If you want to feel like you are deep in the woods without driving far from the city, this is your trail. Sure, there are parts that intersect the paved paths at points, but all the tall hardwood trees more than make up for it. There are two steep climbs at the beginning, but then you are at the top of the ridge line near Farrell Road, a remnant of the scenic unpaved driving road. After a while, you descend into Buggy Hollow where there are multiple foot bridges, although all the streams are dried up in the fall. Ascend again and you can split off the trail around the 2-mile mark to get to Luke Lea Heights with a good view of downtown Nashville. From here, it's all downhill back to the trailhead.

Enjoyable stroll. Hidden Lake was beautiful as the sun was setting and the leaves are about to change.

I really enjoyed this trail. Honestly, I almost changed my mind halfway there from reading the reviews below. However, I thought it was a great trail. Yes, you're walking through open fields, but it had a lot of wild flowers, bamboo, cat tails, and other colorful grasses. I think this trail would be perfect during the winter months, because you do get direct sunlight the whole time.

The path is extremely flat and was great for my dog. I'd definitely recommend this trail to anyone who has a dog who wants to do some running. Also, there is a 2.5mile option and the longer 4.4 mile one, was nice to be able to choose.

Don’t go during hunting season! Had planned to hike from the trailhead to Welch’s Point and back. Closed for hunting events. Soooo we heeded the warnings. Parked and did the short trek to Welch’s. Plan B - back to Virgin Falls trailhead. Did a 5 mile loop out to Martha’s Pretty Point. ‘‘Twas a great great day!

Great hike little tight in spots but swimming hole is worth it!
