Great winter hike for hikers of all abilities. However this mountain requires traction (microspikes, Trail crampons) in winter months; without traction, the slopes near the summit would be treacherous (quite a bit of ice). With traction, the whole loop is enjoyable, easy-to-moderate, and can be completed in 2-2.5 hours. Enjoy!

Great for an amble through the woods. Lots of trails and open space, great for dogs. Easy to navigate, clear trails.

on Franconia Falls Trail

Hiked this with my dog on Dec 30th. Wide trail, hard packed snow, river to your right and gorgeous sunny day. 22 degrees F in the morning and rose to 31 degrees. Hiking boots were okay, but microspikes were needed to approach the falls. It became too icy without spikes. A few people were on XC skis, but would not recommend without edges.

Beautiful views and an easy walk !

Excellent trails for running. A bit technical with roots and rocks to contend with. Well maintained and well marked.

off road driving

This trail is a blast but I highly recommend going with another vehicle and have a lift kit installed first. The off-roading trail starts in Troy off of Prospect Street, all other entrances are for hiking and small vehicles like quads and dirt bikes only... you won’t be able to get in... I tried and failed. It’s a blast and if anyone wants to go hit me up.

Really liked this hike! It was crowded when we started in the afternoon on a weekend. We had to park on the main road outside the parking lot and saw a ton of people on the trail. The hike was challenging but the views at the top were great!

one of my favorite hikes to do in the winter!

Wooded and river. Be sure to check for tides.

Wife and I climbed Mt Major this morning. A beautiful day to be outdoors. Temps were in the Low 40’s with sunshine. Wind made it a little chilly at the summit. Always remember, there’s no such thing as bad weather. Just poor choices in clothing:). Took us 1.5 hours up and 1 hour down. Recommend some sort of traction cleats or crampons as well as trekking poles. Approximately 6 to 8 inches of snow throughout most of the hike. A little slippery coming down the blue trail. All in all a very blessed day.

A wonderful history lesson surrounded by the beauty of Concord. Where it all began. Very sentimental. It was an honor to walk in the steps of the minute men and I enjoyed all of the detailed signs pointing out everything. Lovely bridge with birds landing and making for a great picture by the lake. Enjoyable! Not difficult at all. Nice flat surfaces mostly.

Great day hike and close to home.

Great day for a hike:) Mount Major did not disappoint!

Trail was open and wide for the most part, went this past weekend (first weekend in November) and there wasn’t many people out there! Trail was easy for most of the way, got a little tougher when we turned to head up to the falls.

Just went here today and the trail looks great, but dogs are NOT allowed on this trail. They are only allowed on the beach in specific areas. . Also, the Crane Beach parking attendant charges you an extra $3 for bringing a dog. The beach was beautiful, but just a heads up if you were thinking about doing this trail with a dog.

Hiked the boulder loop and brook trail today. It was beautiful and the foot traffic was very light. weekdays seem to be an ideal time to hike Mt Major. The summit was freezing and windy, but the fall colors were still beautiful.

Went here with a 9 and 3 year old hoping for an easy path- there were too many places that the 3 year could not handle. Great trail, had to stop 1/4 of the way and turn back bc kids got tired.

Will definitely come back, sans kids.

Very easy trail if you hike like we do.

Many of the paths are overgrown with thorns!!

Many of the paths are poorly marked and could be quite confusing if you don’t pay attention.

Gorgeous! Highly recommend.

Nice easy walk. Would do it again. River on one side and brook on other side.

Would have probably been more fun going clockwise, but great trails. Easy to feel lost in nature right outside a city.

Lot’s to choose from, but not well marked.

One of the best hikes in the Lake area. It is definitely more on the easy side, but it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding lakes with minimal effort.

Nice walk, not challenging. Nice scenery.

This trail is great for people who just want a quick short hike! Half the trail is rooty but the other half is not really rooty and is great for running! The part that is in the woods is well marked so it is pretty hard to get lost.

Took the yellow trail up which was awesome for the dog lots of flowing water and big rocks to make it easy to climb up. After reaching the summit looped back down on blue, which was shorter but much steeper with a lot of smooth rock. To say the least it was not as enjoyable back down but the way up was great

Beautiful views for minimal effort. Don't expect any challenge unless you are a very new hiker, the trail should be rated as easy. Gorgeous though!

Straightforward walk for most of the mileage, but nice scenery. Plenty of room for the traffic. Several really nice views overlooking the rocks and river, but most is forest. Waterfall bit is slightly tougher footing, but not that bad. Great place for a lunch and break before heading back.

I was honestly not as impressed with this hike as I thought I would be. We took the blue trail up, which was slightly steep but was also pretty slick on the rock parts. We went down the yellow trail which was either all mud or flowing water. Towards the end of the hike there were crowds of people starting up the trail. The view at the top was awesome and worth it since the hike was decently short and easy but not as difficult as I expected

Very good trail for hiker enthusiasts. Semi difficulties at some rocky spots. The view on the top is amazing. Will do again

Really pretty hike, great views. Any age can climb. Takes about 1.5-3 hours.
