4/17. Trail well maintained. There is some snow along the trail, especially along the switchbacks which can be a little hard to maneuver through. Overall great hike in the morning and good views.
All great - tried to go higher and was unfortunately stopped, it be patches of snow which were frequent, but by thigh high snow.
Nice trail with some good views. Still some snow and a bit of mud but definitely passable.
Just great - needed poles whenever on a south facing slope or in the trees. As always, smart to carry layers for exposed ridges as well as the descent...
The quintessential Sawtooth hike. This is where one goes that wants to experience all the sawtoothiness the Sawtooths have to offer in a solid day hike. The hike itself isn't "hard." More moderate, but you do climb above 8,000 feet, and you will feel it if you're like me and come from sea level. You won't be alone on this trail, and everyone was courteous and kind, demonstrating fine trail etiquette when I hiked this on 8/1/2020. Starting earlier is better. If you want to extend yourself a bit more, veer to the right once you reach the lake and climb to the top of the divide for mind-blowing views that you'll likely have all to your own.
Always a go to fave for the quick and dirty. Rain or shine :) I at least needed my spikes - but having them felt like enough.
Beautiful but difficult hike. About 90% of the trail is snow covered. Much of it is soft snow on top of hard packed snow. Be prepared for missteps where you sink in pretty far because you stray off the hard pack.
In the spring when the snow is softening, snow shoes would be preferable for the snowy terrain (and hiking boots for the dirt trail). Beautiful views, moderate incline, well marked.
Beautiful trail but lots of dog deposits the first 1/4 mile
Another great hike! Sunset... omg!
Overcast and windy but beautiful up at the peak!
Did this trail in September 2020- hands down one of the best trails I’ve ever hiked. Spectacular views the entire way!
Beautiful groomed trail and a perfect day. Rented skate skis and did the loop.
This section of hiking in the Sawtooth National Forest is simply breathtaking. Worth every step!
Hiked end of October 2020. No snow on the trail but it was cold. Not too steep with elevation gain. Nice view of Redfish Lake on the way up.
This is a cool, fun, and mildly strenuous hike. It features just enough elevation gain to get you going a bit, some nice portions through some aspen treees, and some sick views from the ridge that you takes you down from the top. I did this hike on 12/20 w my two fox hounds during a snow flurry in just my snow boots. The trail is packed and not thaaat slick, but I did wish I had put on my tracks. That being said, we got on very well just as we were, and the dogs were pooped when we got back to the hotel!
Beautiful hike. You’re good to go with yaktrax and poles.
Nice easy hike, flat the whole way. Love that it was next to a creek and lots of beautiful trees. Great for dogs and taking you kids along
It was snowing and clouds were low so not much of a view and the chairlift was a bit underwhelming. But great hike that is close to town and east to do
Fantastic trial! Awesome, well marked trail with decent elevation gain. Definitely stop off at alpine lake. Sawtooth lake was incredible. I would recommend this hike a thousand times over
best hike I've done in idaho! went super fast easy incline
Cool lookout!
