Easy stroll through the wilderness, well maintained walking path easy for very young kids.

This hike is one of my favorites in the area, but think maybe it should be marked as hard. Great views at the end but also cool waterfalls on the way up. Trail is a bit confusing after the waterfalls and before the AT. Follow the signs to the trail head for a quarter mile up the hill. Great breweries on the way back to C’ville as a reward

Short hike for great views

Great hike that rewards with some great views at end. Pretty steep at points but a good leg stretcher. This was our first hike in Shenandoah and offered a good glimpse of what the park has to offer.

Great hike. Loved that it wasn't heavily travelled. Fun rocks to climb on and sit on at the top. Great views!

I love this trail, but it is not that easy, not great for kids or older folks. Lovely views the entire hike up during winter/early spring and amazing views all the way around from the top. Very rocky toward the top.

Nice, easy hike with a lovely view at the top. The actual summit is not 1.35 miles from the parking area, probably about half that.

Beautiful Snow Hike. Icy, but safe if you watch your step.

Great hike with my dog. Highly recommend

Pretty easy hike, but a nice view and payoff. The earlier in the day you go the better since the view is westerly facing and afternoon sun will limit the quality of your photos.

Best at sunset

Starting at the trailhead, go right— this path will put you on the AT and it is a much smoother climb to the summit. If you loop it this way, it’s just short of 3 miles around.

Summit has great views around the valley. A little crowded on the weekend but not too terrible.

Well worth the hike. Will do it again when the weather is warmer.

We hiked this on one of the windiest days of the year with 4 very small children & it kicked our butts! The view was worth it, and we’d definitely do it again, but this was a huge challenge for us! We parked in the Priest Wilderness parking lot on 56 & hiked in from there to the overlook. Did about 7 miles total, as we skipped going to the shelter.

Nice look out but definitely an easy hike.

Great little hike. We went in October and saw a large deer with huge antlers. The views are beautiful!

Relatively easy trail. Short hike which you could do in the afternoon, even in the winter. Beautiful views at the summit. To the right you get to see Old Rag Mountain, which was awesome!

More of a moderate then easy hike for kids. Otherwise great hike!

Easy trail very flat. My wife was able to push our 2 year old in her carriage the entire way with no problem. There are plenty of benches along the trail.

Parked at Beagle Gap parking area. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. Be careful at a couple of points where another trail breaks off - just look for the white blazes and you're good.

Final view was pretty with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy. The trail wasn't steep not very rocky - but there was one area of switchback to keep it interesting. Lots of shade until you get to the top.

The trail was well marked so easy to follow.

short & nice submit

Great hike. Started snowing last weekend on the hike!

Awesome views on the summit!

Beautiful view, great first hike in Shenandoah!

Amazing view with a short hike to get there!

Quick hike, awesome view at the end. A 360 view if the mountains. Even took our 20 month old in a off road stroller but was a little rocky going up some parts for that but still worth it. When you get to the AT stay to the two right paths and you’ll make a loop back. Happy hiking!

Beautiful trail and totally worth the trip up!

I did it today early morning and it was amazing but collapsed rocks are blocking the trail for few meters.

I love this trail. Kid and dog friendly. Easy and great views.

I love this little outing ! Of course it is a section of the AT so you can go further then the summit. Great place to take kids ! Easy gradual hill. When getting to the grassy calf mountain summit, it's a nice little place to have a picnic. If you go further , the calf mountain shelter is a total of 2.2 miles from the parking area. It's nice to see. Also if you pay attention while going towards the shelter, maybe about 1/2 mile or less, on your right, you will see a big old old oak tree, then further from it , another one , which is broken up a bit. Also notice all the old apple trees when you first start this trail from the parking area. Some are in the field when you are first ascending upwards towards the woods and then some are along the trail . Lots of bee balm grows in the field also! I love this trail ! Also you will notice a stone fence meandering across this trail a couple of times! Love it!

Extremely crowded at the summit with mediocre views
