Hiked up with my parents who are inexperienced hikers. One used trecking poles. This was my second time doing this hike and I really enjoy the views at the top.

Nice quick hike with a high reward. Great views of cannon mountain.

Beautiful trail. The lake and trail that loops it are worth the climb. Be sure to check out Lonesome Lake Hut! There are bathrooms there and places to change if you want to swim!

This is a really nice hike in Franconia. Although the incline is steep at parts, it levels off shortly after. Definitely less strenuous than the trails up the ridge across the highway.

At the lake is a lovely dock that gives views to Franconia Ridge and Cannon. This is a great place to stop for lunch. Curious and friendly resident ducks on the lake may come up to you, but don’t feed them! They are fun to watch though.

It can get a bit muddy around the lake, but bog bridges help mitigate that.

I took the Dodge Cutoff Trail back down. It was less developed than the LL trail up. No staircases on Dodge. Less people though. I’d recommend going back down the way you came though.

Really nice hike, a good way to pass a few hours.

Excellent trail if you are in a time crunch or just want a short hike that ends with great views.

Great workout. Some climbing up boulders. Views are beautiful! Lots of mushrooms along the way. Some trees down in spots.

Great hike with a couple of beautiful views and cool boulder formations along the way.

that elevation isn't a joke after being at sea level for 4 months. it really isn't a hard hike, i'd call it moderate, but it felt like 20 miles at elevation. beautiful though. the top ridge was windy the ENTIRE time, so be prepared. even at my worlds slowest pace, i finished under 5hours.

Mammoth Hot Springs are definitely interesting and worth a look; the low rating is largely driven by the absurdity of including the upper terrace as a "trail" when it is nothing but a road just wide enough for cars. Do NOT hike the upper terrace; if you wish to see those features, do that loop by car as the Parks Service clearly intends. The lower terrace has a series of pedestrian boardwalks and stairs that facilitate an interesting walkabout to view the beautiful travertine formations around the hot springs. There are a couple of placards describing the basic process by which these types of features formed, but there is almost no information provided as to what explains their various names and histories. Bottom line: this is an easy stop that is a worthwhile roadside attraction but is not a "trail" or a "hike" per se, and All Trails should know better than to mark a narrow car-only road (upper terrace) as a "trail."

This mountain has taken a beating, as evidenced by the large number of downed trees, several still on the path. Comparing to other hikes in the area, I’d judge the effort more as conditioning, than for the quality of the surroundings. There is an interesting boulder ‘graveyard’ not far from the fork, and the trail forces you to enjoy the entire summit. Some bugs, and very few other hikers. Recent rains kept the trails wet. There is one very exposed section of trail near the top- a 4’ wide path 10-15 steps long, that will challenge those with sensitivity to heights.

Awesome hike, did it with 9 people and a dog!

We started the trail via Frankenstein Cliffs which was a pretty steep incline but happy we got the hardest part over with in the beginning of the trail. There were very few people on the Cliff trail but once we got closer to the falls, there were many more- a little too busy to my taste. But all in all, a very beautiful 5 mike hike from start to finish and a great workout. It took us 4 hours but we stopped and picnicked by the smaller falls.

Tough uphill, a little muddy at the top. Nice views.

Even in the rain and fog, this was a little gem of a hike. On the easy side of moderate. Will definitely return in sunny weather for the views.

We did the loop to include observation point.
Great views from the top and we spent a long time just enjoying the outlook area. We climbed down to the falls which were nice. We went down river from the falls and soaked our feet in the river while we enjoyed the morning sun. A nice hike but can get steep at times. The trail is not well maintained on the observation climb with loose gravel and some slippery spots this should be a moderate level hike.
Overall a nice hike with falls and views

it was rainy so had no view at the top, but the woods were absolutely beautiful to hike through. I would definitely do this one again.

Great hike, does get steep about halfway up but you’re under tree cover the entire way up to the peak so it stays pretty cool even on a hot day. Brought my dog and she had no problems navigating the trail. The first half of the trail follows along the Pemigewasset River and the gentle sound of rushing water is always nearby. Wide cliff at the summit provides fantastic views of the town of Lincoln and the White Mountains.

We did this with our two children age 3.5 and 5.5 y and it was a big success. The young one was in my back for the first half and then he wanted to climb on his own. It was a lot of fun. I recommend this trail for any family with minimum experience. Hiking boots are a plus since some sections are somewhat rocky.

Such a fun trail - did this with my family a few years ago, even some of my cousins who were pretty young. Make sure you start early as thunderstorms are common in the afternoon. Awesome view from the top though and really great wildflowers if you go in summer! There was some snow at the top when I went and part of the trail is incredibly rocky so bring appropriate shoes.

Nice hike. Some erosion damage on the trail and some jerk flattened the cairn at the top. Cairn fixed and hope the jerk that took it apart gets poison ivy in some horrible places. The views were awe inspiring and could not have been better weather! Our kids handled it without issue.

A interesting place. Different from other places in Yellowstone. One of my favorite.

It's colorful and beautiful here.

Great trail, mostly easy but with some more challenging spots that make it fun. Amazing views at the top; I definitely need to bring my camera next time! Please be prepared to bring your trash out with you; keep NH trails beautiful!

Highly recommend! For a beginning homer, I did the trail in about 5-5.5 hours and that was with a few short stops along the way. (Couldn’t help myself, make sure you take in the beauty. It’s awe striking.) BEAUTIFUL views almost the entire time. Gets rocky, wear appropriate clothing!

Pretty stunning to see up close. Great views. Then onto Fort Yellowstone which was also interesting. Lots of people but it is what it is. Ran into a lot of road construction which was frustrating.

Great 3 hour hike. Recommend heading towards Frankenstein cliffs first. Steep climb through shaded area that pops you out onto gorgeous outlooks. It had just rained a day prior to this climb so Arethusa falls was going strong. There are a lot of side paths to other falls and small pools, so if you have time to explore, you could easily make this into a full half day hike.

Awesome begginer hike to get you fitted for more bigger hikes. Trail gets steep for a ways. Beautiful lake and hut. Recommend doing the full trail around the lake. Great views!

We hiked this with our 3 year old. He walked some but majority of the time was in the backpack. Hike was great with awesome views. However several spots weren’t marked that great...you have to watch closely. Also, some spots were pretty steep to be hiking with child in pack.

fun hike with a short climb. great views from granite ledge. quiet. trails are being added for longer distances. mostly wooded.

We went to Frankenstein Cliffs first. I felt it was better to do it this way because of the steep incline. Great view from the cliff and excellent water falls!
