Cummins Falls was an awesome hike and would definitely recommend it. It’s an easy hike to the waterfall only about a mile. I do suggest wearing water shoes because you will have to cross the river and it does get very slippery.

Cummins Falls is an amazing hike, with water crossings and an incredible waterfall at the end. Since it has been turned into a state park, it is VERY crowded on weekends! I would recommend a very early start if you’re going on a weekend, or try and do it through the week. In the winter, it’s much more difficult to get to the falls, but it can be done. A Cookeville/ Gainesboro treasure for sure!

Well maintained walking trail.

Great place! Highly recommend visiting. Probably best to go during the week or early on the weekends. There are places to swim all along the river all the way to the falls. As they do on the website I would recommend good shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. There is a loop but the trail closest to the falls is more treacherous. Also if you need a waterproof phone case or anything else there is a gift shop at the entrance of the park.

great place to swim! nice hike up the river as well

The path down is a little sketchy. Watch your footing. You have to walk along the river to get to the waterfall and you will have to cross twice. We didn’t bring water shoes or towels so we didn’t make it to the falls. Super pretty from above though. Not a hard hike.

The overlooking area is an easy hike with a little uphill and downhill. But if you will take the downstream to see the falls closer you have to be prepared as you will cross the river. But the hike is not bad, its just muddy and slippery on the side of the river. Overall it is an excellent hike and the price of the view is breathtaking.

Simple walk. Sinifigance is the trail of tears, the trail is evident by deep ruts leading to the river.

Absolutely gorgeous waterfall a little over a mile out. You’ll need to cross the water twice, which was about knee deep for me.

Trail to the bottom of the falls is a little confusing. It becomes more difficult to get to the falls the further down you go. But the overlook path is short, clear, and absolutely beautiful!

Great hike on the stream trail to the falls. Bring some water shoes and a towel as you cross stream twice each way.

Wow. What’s not to love. The hike was beautiful and kid + dog friendly. To get to the bottom of the downstream trail there is a big section that is narrow with a steep drop and no guard rail so if your walking children are not familiar with trail safety I would consider that but otherwise it’s fantastic. Our kids (9 and 6) have hiked since they were babes on my back and still exercised extreme caution during the before mentioned part. But at the end and in the water (despite the frigid temps) they lived every minute of it. It was a perfect stop to picnic on a rock and then watch them explore. Highly recommend this trail!

Be prepared to get wet

Great hike up and down to the falls. Super crowded. Way too many people for my taste, not to mention the abundance of empty water bottles, cigarette butts, and the occasional diaper thrown in for good measure. Just a matter of time before the state shuts it down.

The causeway being out made for a longer walk, as the crossing light took FOREVER to come on.

Great morning jaunt along the Cumberland River. This is a great walk to do in conjunction with other trails in the area.

Trail wasn’t too busy, until we got close to the waterfall. Once we reached the stream, it was much more crowded. But very much worth our time!

Beautiful swimming hole. Perfect for a hot summer day.

great trail for an afternoon hike

My 58yr old heavy set mother hiked to the overlook with no problem. I hiked to the base of the waterfall with my 2yr old niece and went swimming. The hike down was fairly easy, just watch your footing with tree roots and loose rocks. To cross the river we went up river to where it was only 2 feet to cross. You follow the river to get to the base. There are life jackets of all sizes for anyone to wear at the base. Amazing idea for people who can’t swim or have trouble. I put my niece in the children’s one and we swam for about 20min. I’d rate the hike down as a 1.5 and the hike up a 2.3 there’s some stairs and like 3 switch backs. The hike to the overlook is really easy that would be a 1. Overall an AMAZING hike! If you have bad ankles or knees it would be doable but would take you some time. If you are a moderate hiker this is a breeze.

Very easy to get to the overlook, but be prepared for climbing and water passes throughout to get to the base of the falls. Extremely crowded, but beautiful!

Great little hike. Fun time in the Blue hole.
Always a lot of people there.
Wear wet shoes. The Camp store sells them.
Great place on the weekdays when school is back in. Too busy for me otherwise. It is a great hike for the whole family.

A must do!!!!!

Please take their advice and wear appropriate shoes! Flip flops aren’t going to cut it. Very short trail to the falls then about 1/4-1/2 mile back upstream to the falls and swimming. You will be scrambling over rocks and some are slippery. We were a group of 5 with varying levels of comfort but everyone enjoyed the swimming and the scenery.

The falls are truly beautiful, and the trail is clear and well marked. But it is rocky, wet, and steep in some areas - so definitely bring appropriate footwear. Unfortunately, the park is too crowded, and the heavy foot traffic made some parts of the trail (mostly the descent/ascent to/from the stream) really unsafe. Moreover, the trail leading down to the stream as well as the banks of it were full of trash. I’m fairly disappointed with the management of this natural resource. If you’re looking for a pristine hike, this is not it.

Great time. Short walk to overlook. Hike down to falls was fine, some areas slippery but water felt cool. It is worth the trip to the falls!

The way down and back up was fairly difficult because the trail was very narrow and had excessively too much foot traffic. And as soon as you reach the bottom to the river bed, walking along the river is not easy because at certain points you have to cross the river on very slippery rock, so MAKE SURE TO WEAR SHOES WITH GOOD TRACTION! After walking about half a mile you reach the falls, which are gorgeous, there’s plenty of room to sit and relax along with a deep swimming hole. Climbing to the higher rocks in the falls and jumping off was a huge rush!! So if you don’t mind the heavy population of people, large rock climbing, the view and water is 100% worth it!
