I hiked this trail on 10/21/18. Very beautiful area. However, this 7.2 mile out and back turned into 10.5 miles due to the snow. 80% of the trail had between 2 inches - 2.5 feet of snow. The snow and ice made the hike very difficult. Unless you’re experienced with snow hiking and snowshoes, I would not advise the hike until the snow melts. In the end, the snow got so deep, we couldn’t even make it the last 400 meters to grand lake.

One note though is that the first mile of the hike is easy (if no snow) and takes you to a beautiful small waterfall and small lake.

Lovely hike for a partial day. The steepest part was the first section, then it was easy and beautiful. Very little snow and ice on this sunny October day. You can continue up to the lake for a hike that us twice as long.

Perfect 3 hour hike with the pup.

This hike was so beautiful, the first but is steep but the rest is pretty easy. Each lake was beautiful and so was the overlook and waterfall. I will definitely do this again

Amazing trail, the lakes and creeks are gorgeous.

The fall colors are beautiful right now. Great, family-friendly hike

We started around 10 am today and it was perfect. The tree colors were amazing and the waterfall was incredible.

Amazing views! Moderate is a great description of this hike. First mile or so is the hardest, then it gets better. Coming down is breathtaking from the fall colors and views. Not a lot of traffic early morning. We started seeing more people around 10-12.

A very nice half day hike to treeline , beautiful views 360. The lake was frozen mid September, and very little snow left on mount massive.

Great hike on Saturday, 9/22. Very few people on trail. Sunny, clear day, sea level friend joined us and did fine! The first lake you come to is just as beautiful as Lower Missouri Lake, which is just up a bit. We didn’t do the loop to connect up to Fancy Lake Trail bec two in our party were tired. Will try that next time.

We really enjoyed this hike today! Quite a workout for us with the elevation gain but was worth it. We did have a 4wd vehicle so we were able to get almost all the way to the trailhead. If not it would take a lot of the enjoyment out. We only saw two other couples all day. One couple was on their way down from the summit of Massive. Yes there is a trail to the summit that breaks off about halfway up and has a sign. Saw a few mountain goats and deer and the scenery at the 1st Lake is enjoyable.

Tough hike but very beautiful. The road to the trailhead was a long dirt road but not bad as far as clearance goes-- only the last mile or so was uncomfortably bumpy/slow, I imagine most vehicles could make it up. The beginning of the trail is steep, then it levels out a little with less dramatic gains. Don't be fooled by the first lake you come to... continue up about another 1/4 mile ish to see the bigger lake, it's worth it! Gorgeous water color and mountain backdrop. Highly recommend this for a great workout and views. Not too much fall color change on the hike bc of the tree composition in the area, but the drive from Minturn was stunning with tons of aspens.

We enjoyed the hike very much. Beautiful scenery and spectacular falls.

it's a nice gradual trail, a bit rocky on top. wonderful views when you get there. beautiful fall colors. if I can do it, everyone can. I'll be 73 soon.

My husband and children, 21 & 19 and I hiked this last month with our 11 year old Cairn terrier. The initial ascent was hot on the exposed trail but the waterfall was worth any effort.
Yes, there is horse poop but we didn't care... we have and love horses.
I would definitely hike this again.

Great hike, easy to follow trail with lots of beautiful scenery. The waterfall is amazing and a nice place to cool off before heading back down. I started at 8 a.m. and saw almost no one, but lots of groups going up on my way down. There is some horse poop along trail, but wasn't too bad in my opinion. I went on 9/12 and leaves are starting to turn for fall.

We had a beautiful hike to Grizzly Lake. The last half has little shade or cover as you are at timberline. Saw big horn sheep! Got to the lake and fished for a while. Great fishing and caught beautiful native cutthroats. Saw only a couple of hikers on the trail. Had it to ourselves pretty much the whole hike. Took our time going up as the altitude and the incline took their toll, but the views and the lake are totally worth it.

We completed a overnight backpacking trip this past weekend, and it was absolutely perfect. It stormed a bit at night, but was perfectly clear by morning. There were plenty of other people staying overnight, but there are so many nooks to camp in that it was easy to feel like you were nearly alone. Incredible views and many places to scramble and explore around the lakes.

Great easy hike. Finished 3 hours. Beautiful waterfall

Beautiful waterfall. Easy hike. Not many great views on the actual hike.

Beautiful fall hike. In my top 10 - views, waterfall, awesome.

Awesome trail! First mile and a half are steep, but the rest is just meandering and peaceful. Watch out for the horse poop!

This was a good alternative to Mount Massive, which weather was bad for on Sunday. Seemed longer than 5.4 miles from the trailhead. Did enjoy the great views and scenery along the way, the trail can get a bit confusing when you enter the tree line on Northside of open field. Download the all trails map so you follow off line. no cell phone coverage avail. Also never found the second lake. Still very enjoyable!!!

After reading about this hike we decided to make the drive from Breck to give it a go. We weren’t disappointed. A good bit of the hike follows the creek with a few bridges over the water. We covered about 8 miles total as we spent a good bit of time walking around the lakes. The lakes were really nice with good clear water. Great place to camp and we talked with a few folks that were staying the night. Only caveat would be that the trailhead is around 10 miles down an unpaved road but most any vehicle should be able to make it.

Great trail with a variety of scenery from meadows, to waterfalls, small gorges, alpine lakes, streams etc. We camped at the larger lake, it looked like there were 1 or 2 other groups there and a couple more at the lower lake.

Loved this hike!

There is a good sized parking lot and a bathroom at the trailhead.

You’ll start the hike with the steepest incline, but there are great views of the mountains. After 1 mile it gets easier and after 1.5 Miles it flattens out. You’ll head through a forest of aspens and cross over the creek a few times. Once you cross an open clearing you’re very close to the turnoff for the falls. I thought the little sign was well placed and obvious.

The falls are beautiful and still looked great on 8/31! We got there early (started our hike at 9 a.m.) and had the entire trail and the falls to ourselves. On the way back down there were several groups headed in.

Very beautiful trail!

Hiked this trail over memorial day weekend with a bunch of friends. awesome hike. dogs with off an on leash and beautiful waterfall at the turnaround. pay attention to the little sign that points to the waterfall otherwise you'll be climbing a bit more than you want.

Great moderate scenic hike to a great spot to relax.

My dog and I drove up for a day hike and spent the night next to Lost Lake Slough. It is an easy loop route around all three lakes and there is a nice spot for camping on the shore of Lost Lake Slough.

We did this hike two weeks ago. “Everyone” is right! Best hike I think I’ve ever done. It is not technical, it is also not that hard, but the terrain is varied, and beautiful. Our dog had a great time too. Lots of water and wildflowers.
