What a hike! Totally worth it!

Great hike, definitely tough! Lots and lots of "stairs". View at the top is totally worth it Go early, we started at 7:30 on Saturady morning and as we were going back down, the trail was packed with people heading up.

Short hike to the falls. You are standing above the falls looking down. Nice for those not able to hike more than a couple miles. The trail is a little rocky. If you have the time, continue on to Copper Trail and on to the lake, which is an additional 4-5 miles (one way).

Proposed to my gf at the Royal Arch, beautiful view that shouldn’t be missed out on!

Amazing hike! We went in mid July and wildflowers were in peak bloom. This hike has it all....wildflowers, Mountain View’s, and amazing alpine lakes. This hike is a must. I would recommend going early or going on a weekday to avoid crowds. Several great spots to camp of you wanted to turn it into an overnight trip. I would say this hike is moderate and not hard. Easy switchbacks the whole way up.

I’m sure this has been written in other reviews, but although the hike features seriously gorgeous views of lakes, rivers, mountains and of course the mill itself, it is moderately to heavily trafficked with off-roading motorists. That means stepping off to the side of the trail every few minutes to let someone pass, and if you have a dog, keeping a tight leash around bends and narrow sections of the trail. It also means that you should not be expecting a “hiking trail” so much as a rocky dirt road.

Traffic from motorists can be avoided by getting an early start (around sunrise) to make it there and back to the trailhead with few interruptions, or go on a week day if possible (I’ve hiked this trail on a few separate occasions and found this to be accurate).

The hike is definitely worth doing! It is very picturesque and there are several beautiful pit stops to take along the way. Just do yourself the courtesy of going at an off time!

Get there early! Parking lot will fill up around 8AM. Got there around 9AM a few weeks ago and we waited in line at the pay station for over an hour. Worth the wait if you have the time!

Bring sunscreen and plenty of water. Pretty crowded tail. If you don’t want to add time to the hike try to park at Long Lake. I

Beautiful trail with picturesque settings. One of my favorite hikes.

My favorite hike to date! Challenging, spectacular views. Love the river along the trail. I did read people upset about the 4x4 vehicles, honestly didn’t bother us one bit! We parked down by the mail boxes and was between 9 and 10 miles round trip. Brought our dog too! Stop by groovy slow bbq after in marble for an amazing post hike meal!!! Soooo yummy!!

I prefer this for an early evening stroll after the horses are put up. Great for dogs. Gothic and the valley never get old to look at - flowers were strong but starting to fade a bit. Prefer to take in the fall as the aspen change and the bugs are gone due to cooler weather. This this is more of an easy moderate.

Amazing trail! Overall moderate, not highly trafficked, and beautiful views everywhere! Highly suggest!

Absolutely beautiful! Got there at 6:30 and had to park at Bear Lake. There is a friendly marmot at the Lake of Glass and on the way back down a herd of Elk with their babies were crossing the Loch. Truly a remarkable trail. Be prepared for elevation gains and pack bug spray!!

Such a beautiful hike- easily one of my favorites!

Lots of wildflowers and beautiful vistas- took off a star because of the bags o poop situation. Forever dragging my own dog away from them- pack it out or don't bring your dog!! It makes it gross for everybody! Would rate this hike easy-moderate- we didn't find it as challenging as some hikes in this area

Well worth the hike. Once you have made it to Crater Lake, look for waterfalls way up on side of Mountain.

Difficult, but the views along the way up are beautiful - can be hard on the joints and toes, also slippery when wet.
You can see the Denver skyline on a clear day!

Not sure what the fuss is all about. granted we stopped at falls because we were just looking for a short hike after hiking all morning elsewhere. I would call this more of a moderate trail due to all the loose rocks and it has a pretty steady climb. Not hard, but i wouldn't take grandma or anybody not used to hiking. I guess I expected to be closer to the falls rather than looking at them from 300 yards away down a cliff. An ok hike but there are much better trails. Maybe if you keep going it gets better.

Love it! My husband and I chose this as our first hike with our 6 month old baby in a backpack...definitely worth it! Falls at the end we’re gorgeous.

beautiful trail, with some very satisfying high alpine and lake views after a short ascent. Only 4 stars because this trail was crowded with both people and dogs. There are no indications that dogs need to be on leash for this trail, but I got a lot of dirty looks from folks that were leashing their pups. I would do this hike again if I had out of town guests that weren't that acclimated, but wanted to see some nice vistas.

Lovely hike with great payoff. I have hiked this 3 times and done the 11-mile snowshoe to it when the access road was closed. Regarding the post for the hike on 6/29/18, you ***CAN*** use your RMNP annual pass, but you need to tell the people manning he Brainard Lake entry station that it is an "Access Pass" or "Interagency Pass". Any of the Federal annual or lifetime passes will work at Brainard. You just need to classify them as stated above because many of the people manning the entry booths only understand the passes when they are classified as above. I know this from experience and also received this exact info directly from the Boulder Ranger District.

This place is amazing! 3 lakes, beautiful mountain views & a ton of wildflowers. Parked at the lower trailhead, so it does add a little less than a mile to your hike, which was no big deal. Got an early start, so hardly anyone on the trail when I started, the crowds started to come as I was heading back down. Not too long of a hike, I tracked it at 6.3 miles.

Awesome hike. Climbing the waterfall was probably my favorite part. I felt like we were discovering a new land as silly as that sounds. My brother and I loved it. Great hike.

Great trail not too crowded and great views on the way up, the top is the reward.

Definitely a bucket list hike! Beautiful wildflowers. Make sure you bring your hiking poles. Very steep in some areas. Worst part of hike was roadbed from parking lot to trailhead.

Great trail and gorgeous scenery. Three awesome alpine lakes and some good photo ops. Trail very well maintained. Great for families too.

Fantastic trail with beautiful rock formations and amazing views at the top. Vault toilets at the trailhead (very clean when we were there). It ended up being a litle over 5 miles. Watch out for afternoon storms in the summer. Overly friendly chipmunks at the top looking for hiker goodies.

Honestly one of the best hikes I have ever been on. The elevation takes some getting used to if your like me (from North Carolina) so be sure to take some extra water with you. Went late afternoon, got on the trail around 3:15 because the parking lot was full. Got to sky pond around 6:00 without making any stops.
Trail is pretty rugged toward the end, but if you enjoy climbing, it shouldn’t be an issue for you. Be sure to bring bug spray because they will GET YOU!!! Also a change of shoes/socks (or water shoes if you want to swap). My feet got soaked climbing up the waterfall getting to the end of the trail and soggy feet can be a bit annoying after awhile.
All and all, probably one of the best hikes I have ever been on! Highly recommend!
