hard trail. well worth it. Id really like to go back and loop it overnight to bear creek.

I did this hike in late March and the snow was still heavy especially at the higher elevations. It really should be done with snowshoes this time of year. I turned around after the last switchback because the snow was too heavy and there were some signs of small, yet recent, avalanches over the trail. At least I avoided the 4x4 traffic. Stunning views.

I liked what I was able to hike. Would not recommend going in winter months without proper gear! Parts of the trail were pure ice - had to cut the hike short due to ice. Nice steep inclines at the beginning of the trail. Eventually comes to a pretty waterfall (which is where I stopped b/c ice).

I did the north east and northwest sections on 2/16 in the late afternoon and 2/17 in the morning, using microspikes for parts of both. Great minimalist trail, with sketchy shoring up by the falls on the northeast section. Seems that some people go hors piste there which disrupts the integrity of the hillside. Stay on the trail. At the bridge past Henn's overlook on the west side, the snow was too deep and unbroken for me to continue w/o snowshoes or any knowledge of where the trail lay. I'll do it again when I have enough time to do the whole loop.
Pro tip: get a map of the trail from the visitor center in town, and they might give you updated trail condition info.

Very scenic, with tight switchbacks. I've driven Black Bear several times. Yes, you must aware of your surroundings, but you don't need to air down or need a spotter. Your on a Mountain made of rock and can't get stuck, unless mechanically deficient.

Bring a camera and a lunch. Bridal Falls is a must! You drive past it toward the end. Enjoy the scenic views and bask in the beauty of Colorado! I've done Hole in the Rock in Utah. There you must air down. Very steep crevices.

Good hike, first mile was mostly uphill with well packed snow. The snow got deeper a couple of miles into the hike but not enough to require snowshoes (we wore microspikes). The trail markings are almost nonexistent near the high point and there were tracks in the snow in several different directions so we ended up going off trail to get down to the road. After the steep descent we flatlanders decided to call it a day and take the road from the Ice Park to our car at the Visitors Center with a stop at the coffee shop. I would do this hike again.

Beautiful hike! Hiked it last Thursday had some icy spots but was not bad.

Looks like an INCREDIBLE Nature Place to visit!!! Awesome views!

My husband and I tried this trail for the 1st time on 12/7/17. Mostly clear of snow and ice, the downhills weren’t all that bad but if it was wetter it could be bad in spots. We really enjoyed it and plan to do it with snowshoes or at least try it.

Great trail, awesome views and not as hard as people make it out to be if you pay attention to the trail

Solid hike, gets pretty busy in the summer

Spectacular views! May be taxing if not in shape and or used to altitude. Signage lacking at times. Overall amazing hike.

Beautiful. Words and pictures serve no justice. Worth the hike if you are doubting yourself. Bring snacks and water.

beautiful views of red mountain

Lots of elevation gain for an absolutely breathtaking view on top. Ran into a red fox, which was cool. Most challenging and rewarding hike I've done so far.

Cool hike up to power plant. There wasn’t much water going through the falls but a great hike. We ended up continuing our hike up to Blue lake. An amazing hike. 16 mi round trip from downtown telluride

Great hike. Closer to 6 mi. though. Great views of the valley.

Started in the valley so walked the switchbacks to get to the start of the hike. Beautiful wildflowers.

Beautiful Jeep road, and I mean BEAUTIFUL! Not super difficult but a couple parts might get you if you have a fear of steep drop offs. We have done all the trails around Ouray and this is our favorite. Make time to sit by Lake Como and take it all in!

I parked at the hot springs and by the time I got back to my car it was 6.3 miles. Great hike, though. Not many people on the trail and views that can only be seen from the trail. Highly recommend to get the full Ouray experience!

each switchback gives you a bigger and better vantage point of the town and the falls. if you're planning on driving, make sure your vehicle as AWD or 4x4. it is not for low clearance cars. great views

Heavy 1 ft snow at the top
Too difficult for a stock
Had to return from just .5 miles from the top
Will be back for sure

Waterfalls, deep river canyons, stands of Aspen, rocky outcroppings... this hike has it all! We hiked this trail with our dog in the rain and sleet today and it was epic! The wintery weather combined with stunning views and varying terrain made for a hike to remember. We'll definitely be back!!

Great hike! There was so much variety -- waterfall, a cave you walk through, high bridges, mining roads and steep rocky parts. Awesome. We did go a bit longer ~6 miles. A part of the trail was closed near the end of our hike but it re-routed us back to town with no problems. We went clockwise starting at the big hot springs in town (south side of the town).

Hiked with mom. Loved it! Different view every corner you turn. Awesome to look down at the town and over at the mountains. Really beautiful.
