Difficult & steep trail run, but well worth the efforts

Climbed 11/10/18 - Sanitas generally stays drier and more snow free compared to nearby mountains like Green or Bear which makes this a great mountain for a workout hike or trail run. Quick and easy. Always seems to be more crowed than Green or Bear. Views from the summit are only of Boulder and you cannot see anything west:(. Additionally the summit block is small and crowded which was an annoyance both times I climbed it. So this is a great workout mountain and is fairly fun but the views and solitude are lacking compared to neighboring mountains..

Climbed 11/18/18 - Absolutely gorgeous from start to finish! Quick and easy. West side of Green mountain definitely holds more snow than the east side so the whole route is snow covered and beautiful. That said, it's so popular that it stays boot packed. The last few hundred feet to the summit get steeper so I'd recommend microspikes for extra traction this time of year. Enjoy!

My husband and baby went snowshoeing here today; it's a long-shot, but he lost his car keys. Old beat up key for a Scion tC, safety pin, house key, and a silver metal flash drive. If anyone happens out there tomorrow and sees them, please let me know! RhiannonDean07 @ gmail

First half of the trail is super icy but once the sun hits you up top it’s beautiful and easy.

Going counter clockwise on the trail was a bit difficult, the trail was tricky at times. Unfortunately I went on a cloudy day but if you are looking for a trail to get a sweat going this is a great one.

Awesome and easy hike! If snowy definitely come prepared because my friend busted his ass 6 times

Attempted this over the weekend at the height of the snowfall. Did not complete the hike as the split in the trail to head to Crater Lakes was completely covered in snow. We followed some "fresh" prints but soon realized that even with GPS and a big ego/pride, it could not be completed with the current conditions. I do not think that this can be completed with confidence with new snowfall or even existing trail conditions. Beautiful otherwise with amazing views of the Moffat Tunnel and surrounding areas. Still giving it 5 stars as I know the end result is amazing but nature didnt allow for views this weekend.

*Use extra caution during snow storms when entering/leaving the road on the trail. The snow gets high enough to not visibility to the edges of the road. I lost control of my vehicle and luckily, it took some digging and persistence to get out. Just be extra careful during the winter months even if you have good tires and all wheel drive.

A little tough getting from parking to trail. Good snowpack, could get by with spikes.

I’ve hiked this trail multiple times. Was virtually empty today. You do need micro spikes to stay safe on the ice.

With the winter storm yesterday, I was met with knee-to-thigh-deep snow for the majority of the hike, so I definitely let out a few war cries on the ascent. It was still a great experience and gave me an insane workout. I recommend trekking poles, knee-high gaiters, water resistant clothing, and snow shoes or skis. Micro spikes were almost worthless due to the post-holing, but they'll be more applicable once the terrain hardens. If you're faced with similar weather (newly fallen, powdery snow), I'd roll out with snow shoes/gaiters at a minimum.

The trailhead parking lot was well-plowed, so those with sedans and non-AWD/4x4 should still be able to access the lot regardless of the trail condition.

Hiking Quandary Peak is challenging in the winter, but its doable and fulfilling if you start early. Also, it's one of the least likely 14ers to be affected by avalanches due to the ridge trail, so that's a plus.

Beautiful views on this trail! There is lots of ice on it right now but many ways to walk around it.

Did this trail when first visiting the area..definitely was a little challenging on the way up! Was a great workout and the view at the top is awesome.

Very beautiful easy hike, great views, flat and well maintained trail. I would give this an easy rating. The trail is a little icy in some parts but not too bad. Great place to bring out of town guests.

This was a great workout. The views are amazing. There is lots of stairs and boulders to go over. A bit missing and icy on the back loop going down.

Nice Thanksgiving Day hike! As others have said, parts are icy and snowy particularly the last third or so. Since we didn’t have poles or yaktrax, we just had to slow down. Great views of Estes!

Easy day hike with rolling hills. Nice if you don’t have a lot of time easy to get to.

Snowy but doable with boots! Great views at the top and not too long

BE CAREFUL at this point. Mt Falcon trail (Castle Trail) is ok except for maybe 300’ of ice.

Returning on Turkey Trot, or going up Turkey Trot, involves thousands of feet (45 minutes) of hardpacked glass ice, even hard to manage in yak tracks.

Nice, well maintained trail very close to Estes Park. Nov 20 there were many slick icy spots, but nothing too treacherous. After the single water crossing (frozen), the steps get steeper, but not terrible. Gem Lake itself is unimpressive, but turn around to get a great view of Estes Park and the scenery beyond. Worth the hike!

This was my wife and my first 14er. Our friends carried their 2 year old and 4 year old with them. It took us forever but we had a blast. Didn’t make it to Torrey’s.

Road to the trailhead is 4 wheel drive only when we were there. Much of it is passable with a car but there are a few parts that a low clearance vehicle will definitely not make it across. This probably changes with rain and snow but definitely worth mentioning to be ready to hike the road or have a high clearance vehicle.

Did this hike at the end of September. Loved the waterfalls! The views on both sides of the trail were stunning. On the North side we could see white mountain goats grazing along the ridge. So many views on this trail.

Wonderful hike to the top with my 8and 4 year old children 6/4/16. Great views of the water falls!!

I did start on the class 3 side and do the entire loop it was well worth it if you don’t mind the danger and length. I would do it again just to camp at blue lake and then hike around. Just the popular trail took about 3 hours. It will take less than 5 for an average person I think just get there early for good parking on the weekend

Beautiful hike! Snowing the day I did it, microspikes came in handy.

Today the trail was packed, didn't need snowshoes until that last 1/2 mile after turnoff for Lost Lake. Most of the hike was shielded from wind before getting to the lake. Super gusty today so not a fun afternoon to linger at Lost lake, but saw a few pretty views while there. It's a fun and easy to moderate level snowshoe trail.

Loved this hike! We went 11/12 and it was super snowy! A lot of people had snow shoes but our spikes worked just fine. Saw 3 large moose on the trail! You have to hike about a mile from your car to the trail head, so factor that in! Also, there was a frozen stream you could hike, however with our spikes it was a little sketchy. If you don’t want to hike the stream there is a trail to the right of the stream that goes through the woods in order to get you to the trailhead.

Really great views of Boulder. Definitely an asskicker at times, though not always. Trail was in good condition, with lots of people taking advantage of perfect hiking conditions.
