It was my first time hiking in Colorado, great place to start. Really fun and enjoyed the beautiful views. Was a bit hard for the first time but I bet if you are used to hiking it would be a pleasant hike.

The hike is okay. The 'castle' ruins are really neat!

Nice trail with a variety of terrain. This trail may be considered hard for those who do not hike frequently... some narrow, rocky areas with over 1000 ft of elevation change. The river was a nice spot to stop for a rest half way through the hike.

Great hike. A little crowded on weekends but worth it.

A nice workout with a strong hill qt the end. - beautiful - the river was great for my dog too :)

Great scenic trail. Seems crowded on weekends.

3.8 miles 1950 ft elevation. Awesome hike for how short it is and close to Denver, we did it in the evening for sunset and there was a show going on at Red Rocks below. Some sections are pretty steep and sandy, trekking poles recommended, definitely wear decent shoes. Final scramble to the top is lots of fun.

Watch for rattlesnakes. Not small dog friendly

Challenging in some areas for novice hikers but overall a great place to hike!

I love this trail. beautiful views, not too far from golden.

Great hike!

Close to Golden, so quite busy. Close to the road leading to Lookout Mountain. So nowhere you really can’t hear the road. The views are nice though. Does get hot. Many mountain bikers, so stay alert.

Really pretty hike. Not too busy even for a Sunday. Nice a shady for the longer hike. Small view once you reach the top.

good one with kids

Beautiful hike with my dog, but had to go early in the AM to beat the summer heat (by noon it was 95 degrees). A few spots got narrow and with mtn bikers out and about there were a couple times we were forced off the path to make room for them. Nice mixture of rocky scrambles and smooth trail.

Excellent summer hike. I don't know why this is rated as "hard". The trail is clearly marked, there's like one spot where you have to scale (or descend, depending on which way you go) a rock, and it's nothing even remotely dangerous or technical. I did this back in January and it was much more difficult due to ice and snow. Still a nice hike through the forest, saw a decent amount of people, most of whom were worried they lost the trail. Dogs should be just fine on this trail. Do your research before you hike, people!

historic ruins, nice hike, good views. give it a go.

The trails are well marked and beautiful scenery. This is one of my favorite trails to go on. However, I would suggest to get there early as the parking lot gets full & it’s a very popular hike.

I’ve hiked this trail today and it’s a very beautiful trail. It doesn’t follow the red rock trail for most of the hike, it turns onto a black trail. But it’s absolutely worth it. You can also choose to continue following the red rocks trail, it’s an easier trail with less ascending. However if you are in a decent shape, take the black trail via the top of the mountain for beautiful views of the city. Watch out for rattle snakes, I’ve seen one sunbathing on the trail. More people have seen them a lot sunbathing.

The trail tends to not be fully marked. Better to be completed in the morning rather than in the afternoon, great bouldering available!

decent mixed terrain, good if you're just looking for a place to get a workout. we didn't find this trail exceptionally challenging or attractive in the way of views, but had a pleasant stroll here. would have given 4 stars if there wasn't a good section of it by the road or if the views were more significant. enjoyable space down in the ravine though.

I love this hike. The first time I did it I was surprised by how difficult it was, as the last mile is relatively steep uphill, but it’s worth it for the beautiful river, wildflowers and abundant shade. I would not recommend bringing dogs on this hike as there are some rocky areas that are very difficult for them to climb over. If you go on a weekday it’s not very crowded and the trail is well marked. Highly recommend.

Hiked this in about 2.5 hours with a 20-minute lunch break at the top of Lookout Mountain. 7.4 miles total to the top of Lookout. Plenty of parking spots available on Sunday afternoon. Warning: encountered two rattlesnakes on the descent (within the final mile). Both rattlesnakes were sunbathing in the middle of the trail. One snake moved into the brush as soon as it heard us. The other was more aggressive - after it started up the side hill, it turned and lunged at the nearest person and was rattling and hissing before assuming the coiled position in the middle of the trail. We had to wait it out about 10 minutes before the snake moved into the brush and we could safely pass. Keep an eye out!

Glad they changed this from moderate because his was the hardest hike we have done in awhile! While it is beautiful there are parts that made me nervous about my dog with climbing rocks and such. It is super beautiful though I want to return once I get myself in better shape!

Nice hike with limited shade so sun screen or an early start is best. Nice views of red rocks area and worth the “walk”.

Great hike that was not as busy, even on the weekend. Had great shade and a good mix of wildflowers, forest, canyons, streams. I would highly recommend going counterclockwise. More of a gradual incline at the end as opposed to a more steep climb if you go clockwise.

Awesome hike, great views!

Our first hike on our 2018 Colorado trip. Perfect start to the trip.

Great workout with my pup. Uphill out & downhill back
