Great view in relation to the effort it takes to get there

Hot in summer. But beautiful

This hike was amazing. Difficult, but the view at the end — especially when the aspens are changing — is absolutely worth the effort!! I hiked to Pancake Rocks and not the falls. To be honest, I’m a beginner hiker and I was hoping to see more aspens and pancake rocks throughout the hike, but there really wasn’t much of either until the final payout at the end! I was hoping to turn around half way (because I’m out of shape!) but even though it was beautiful, I didn’t see what I was hoping for until the very end.

Overall, it took about 1:45 hrs to hike up, and 1:20 down. Careful, there’s quite a bit of loose gravel on your way down! Lots of nice friendly people and doggos- especially during aspen season.

About half way through there’s a few switchbacks — this is the hardest part! Just push through it, and when you get passed them, it starts to even out. There’s a few smaller rolling hills from there to the end, but it’s cake compared to the switchbacks!

Nice hike. The switchbacks are killer, especially for someone new to hiking like myself but it’s well worth the view at the end. I just wish there was more to look at along the way. I got there shortly after 7 on Saturday morning and had the trail pretty much to myself. On the way back there must’ve been at least 40 cars parked along the road so go early. Lots of people and dogs. Weekdays are probably better as far as the traffic goes.

Great “warm up” for Emerald Lake! Great hike / almost all flat / beautiful views / very well maintained trails - loved it!

Great hike. What a fantastic 360 degree view at the summit.

Nice length and difficulty with a beautiful view at the top. Not as heavily trafficked as other trails in the area with the leaf peepers. My GPS put it at 5 miles round trip.

Close to the city. Short distance.

amazing views of the flatlands and mountains. gorgeous hike for so close to Denver. loved the history!

Not the most spectacular falls by any means, but an average hike with some elevation gain. Heavy traffic with familes and dogs on a narrow trail most of the way. If you're up for the challenge and more miles I highly suggest continuing up to Mt. Rosa for some beautiful views.

The historical ruins are very cool! Took a visiting family member from out of state and it seemed like a good fit for her while still adjusting to the altitude. Pretty crowded with lots of familes and dogs. No amazing vistas, but some decent overlooks and views to Red Rocks Amphitheatre. It's nice how all the little side trails connect so you can add or minus mileage as you like. Found the historical information and ruins to be the coolest part of the day.

Lots of variety.

An enchanted forest! Evergreens, lots of shade simply beautiful and good workout.

This walk is great for any experience of hiker. The lake is beautiful & today the colors around the lake were great. There were a lot of people on the trail today also. Very busy trail.

My first visit to Colorado Springs. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the trail and accessibility. Beautiful!

Very nice hike.

A bit crowded on a Saturday, and most of the trail is totally exposed so got pretty hot even in the mid-morning. No incredible vistas but decent views throughout. Ruins were neat.

Really enjoyed this as a loop w/ my 6 month old puppy. Do the loop counter clockwise- that way you hit the steep stuff going uphill and downhill is a gentle slope if you have a dog and don’t want the trail to be too hard on their joints going downhill

Nice historical hike.

You need a 4x4 , wrangler, SUV or truck to get to this trailhead. I am sure this is a 5-Star hike but we had to turn around since we were driving a hybrid rental car. The trail description does not mention this very important fact (about getting to the trailhead on a very rutted, narrow and rocky road). Travel safe!

One of the best trails. Great time

This trail starts out with lots of people, then as you turn to go up pancake rocks, almost no one! Tough hike, no doubt. Once you get to the top, absolutely beautiful!!

Falls are nice once you get there. The length of the hike is a bit much for a half-day outing. The initial portion on the forest road is exposed and hot, pretty forgettable. The trail itself is mostly covered, but a pretty consistent, significant uphill grade.

Short walk around Bear Lake. Nice little nature trail.

Really enjoyed this hike. Starts out easy on a old road with gradual gain. Then comes to a more typical much narrower trail through the trees with a more intense elevation gain. Views from the top were great. Be prepared to share the trail with mountain bikers and dirt bikes

Short hike but very pretty. Kids loved it, but wanted to go up to where the snow was (we live below sea level). Strolled around the lake and then decided to hike all the other lakes.

Great exercise- The incline was a bit difficult for a beginner like myself. We followed castle Trail the entire hike. During the incline of the trail rocky walkways, the remainder paths were pretty wide.

Very pretty short walk around the lake. Heavily traveled on the Thursday afternoon we went. This is an easy hike, perfect for families with young kids.

Easy hike with beautiful views of the lake.
