My wife and I did this yesterday. Nice trail with wildflowers and great scenery. It is a combination of open fields of wildflowers and areas with large shady aspens. There were also some wild raspberries and blueberries (or possibly huckleberries) along the trail of which I munched on here and there. I would recommend hiking shoes as the trail can be rocky in places although I did see many folks in tennis shoes along the trail. There were several steep places where a trekking pole came in handy. I'm 63 and about 220 lbs and I find a single trekking pole helps balance and knees on the steps. My wife and I made it to the falls in 1 and 1/2 hours. I'm from a southern low land area but we've been here about 5 days to get somewhat acclimated to the elevation. While getting a bit winded at times, it wasn't that bad. Would do this again.

Me encantó la experiencia, excelente si lo
recomiendo.

Beautiful trail! perfect challenge for two sea-level-dwelling moderately fit people. the first two miles are a piece of cake, last mile is steeper and involves some light scrambling. We got there around 10 am on a Sunday and it was fairly crowded on the trail, but if you appreciate friendly fellow hikers and cute pups it's not a problem.

Great, challenging hike. You must go early to get a parking spot.

They aren’t kidding-this is an extreme hike. But it was awesome!!

When we do this one again, we will probably make it an out and back vs a loop. Half of the loop is on a gravel/rock road and isn’t very pretty. We preferred the tree-covered dirt trail.

Great hike! Parking was a bit chaotic but didn’t see a ton of people on the trail. We had a large group with several kids ranging from 7-16 yrs old. We enjoyed the hike through the forest and seeing the falls. But the best park was making it to the lake. Our dog jumped in right away to cool and swam around. Highly recommend this trail to families with kids!

Says Hard but I don't think its hard. Beautiful trial.

I am in Vail for a 9 week post-surgery checkup for my hip. I had a personal goal to do some hiking while in Vail. This trail was steep but had enough shade and flat surfaces that I was able to complete it! The hardest part, for me, is getting used to the elevation. Make sure to pack plenty of water and healthy snacks. I found a walking stick, which was very helpful. We took alot of breaks and completed the trail in and out in 5 1/2 hours. Great scenery and plenty of friendly, encouraging hikers along the way.

Awsome !

Amazing views along the way with lots of wildflowers. There are parts that are steep but manageable. There are plenty of places to rest on the way up that are shaded. Enjoy the gorgeous views of the falls at the top!

Tough hike!! Had to take a lot of breaks!! The accomplishment of getting to the top feels great but I don’t need to do it again!!

Beautiful hike!! Not too hard and goes through several types of terrain.

Lovely stroll for kids and great views. But can get crowded.

This trail was beautiful, well maintained and a relatively easy hike with kids. The lake at the end is a perfect spot to relax before looping back.

Great hike. Done 2nd year in a row. I’ll do it 3rd year next summer. We have 14 yr old, 11 yr old, and a 7 yr old. It’s a challenge for the young ones, but the views and waterfalls are worth the challenge. Recommend you hike back on the road.

CHIPMUNKS AT THE LOOK OUT VIEW!! They will come up and eat right out of your hands, they are all around. Beautiful view on the trail as well, short and easy! Definitely recommend! Take some black bird seed the chipmunks love that stuff! Or any nuts!

Extremely difficult but definitely worth it!

Felt like such an accomplishment getting to the top. I’m probably average as far as endurance fitness goes and this was a grind, especially half way up when it gets steeper. Had to take a breather every 50 steps near the end there, but I’m glad I didn’t bail out early and kept going to the summit. Took the Barr trail back down and it’s pretty mellow with tons of switchbacks. Some sections are very narrow and people like to run down, so keep an ear open for people running up behind you.

I got to the start around 6:15am and ended up paying the $10 parking because I didn’t know any better, but it was nice having my car close. I’m told there is other parking in manitou and a shuttle that runs to the trailhead every 20 mins. Might try that next time to save money. The parking lot was packed by 8am when I got back down, make sure you go early to beat the heat and crowds.

My only complaint is that some of the steps are washed out between, just gotta be careful on some spots. Very tough hike for me, but worth it!

It’s pretty cool. The park is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Don’t need to go again, but glad I got to see it.

Stunning views! The trail is well marked and criss-crosses a creek a few times so my pups could cool off. Beautiful flowers line the trail. We hiked to the falls which has dramatic drops, so keep your dogs and kids close!

Lake is gorgeous and refreshing! Easy hike and worth circling the lake.

Fantastic trail and scenery, with a wide variety of plants and other wildlife. This is one of my favorite hikes in the area, however it is also one of the most trafficked.

Very picturesque hike with great views of the reservoirs, mountains and town of Dillon. Great for a short hike

It was very crowded on a Saturday, so that is to be expected but the trail is pretty narrow. I had to keep wrangling my dog and atepping out of the way from people and other dogs. Also the chipmunks arent scared of people because they get fed so much but subsequently, they arent scared of the dog and will go right up to them and there were a couple times I was emotionally preparing myself for twenty people to watch my corgi carnage and cute little chipmunk. This didnt happen but if your dog is rodent obsessed this is not the trail for you. A dog in front of us barked non stop at them and they wouldnt flee so he just kept doing it. Also be prepared to be asked to take pictures of a lot of tourists. Great place for a hop out of the car and look at the views but I wouldnt hike again...

Absolutely stunning views!

This is a beautiful trail with a variety of views in July...wildflowers, aspen, rocky areas, and the falls...which are extremely low this year. I would rate it as easy to moderate. There are just a few rocky areas...but most of the trail is dirt. The elevation gain pushes this hike into the moderate range...but it’s spread out over two miles. If you leave early enough, you’ll be in the shade almost the entire time.

The hike was lovely. Well-maintained trail. Lake at the end of the trail was gorgeous. I saw a moose up close! I went on a Tuesday evening and saw 5-6 other people. Out and back took me about 40 mins total. Worth it!

Short little simple walk to a small pond. Very crowded, tons of dogs and kids at the top.
