Awesome hike, albeit quick and easy.

Amazing hike for our family. Spectacular scenery, well maintained trails, and lots of fun falls/river spots to stop for snacks. Our 5 year old had no problem with this hike, which pleasantly surprised us. We arrived around 10 am and were lucky enough to get a parking spot at the trailhead. Trails were way less crowded than popular hikes farther north in the park. Rangers were very helpful, friendly, and informative!

We started the day with a pair of moose watching us gear up. This was the kids favorite hike because of all the water. Got busy around noon when we were almost done. Lots of good places to stop for snacks at the falls.

Lots of steps at the top of this climb, but I really enjoyed it. I’m not in great shape, but was able to complete the climb without too much trouble. I felt pretty proud when I completed the climb, as it was a nearly 1000 ft increase in elevation. There is a bathroom towards the top of the trail, which was a nice convenience.

One of the best lakes in the Rockies !! Totally worth the visit.

good exercise

good views on the back side of the mountain theres some rock climbing after the keyhole but a good hike

challenging, at some points you're going up steps that are 1-2ft high. but the view is 100% worth it, and the lake is beautiful. don't go in it, tho, there are leeches!

It’s a fun hike up to the lake with tons to see on the way. Dream Lake was our favorite part of the hike - absolutely gorgeous, we felt at point like we’d stepped into a lord of the rings movie. I agree the trail is moderate depending on the person. We hiked it pretty quickly but there were a couple parts that got a little steep. It’s partially paved or there are rock steps pretty much the whole way though. Great hike and would do it again! We got there early around 7am and it was not too crowded at all - go early.

We have done this hike a couple is times and love it! (most recently 7/24, arriving at 7:50am) It is definitely popular, so get there either very early or later in the afternoon. When we arrived, the main parking lot was full and we parked a little way off from the trail head... and that was before 8am on a Tuesday. The hike is on the easier side of moderate with quite a bit of gentle grade, some steps, lots of level places, and some steeper incline towards the end. Definitely take the side path to Copeland Falls and climb around to get close to Ouzel falls (If you get to the bridge at Ouzel falls you have missed the turn off point to get close). Most of the hike is along water and shady. If you are a serious hiker, you will consider this pretty easy; if you are not a Colorado native (still getting used to the elevation) or don't do a lot of hiking, this will be a good hike with a little challenge. The are several falls along the way and the path is dynamic, crossing streams, some views, some wildflowers. Every step of the way is really quite beautiful.

Very pretty hike with good elevation gain, but huge crowds...

Good, rocky trail through limber pine, Engelmann spruce, and sub-alpine fir. It was pleasant except that already by half-way up we counted 8 poop bags and 3 unbagged dog .poops.

Beautiful, easy, hike! Got there around 9AM and it was extremely crowded the whole time. However, the views and lakes truly are incredible.

I feel a great sense of accomplishment for my 10 year old daughter, who was the only kid on the trail to Chasm lake today. It was a great hike! So lucky to see a moose, out of nowhere, crossed the trail in front of us. It was scary and amazing at the same time! We waited a few long minutes for the clouds over Long’s peak to blow away. It got so windy but we came prepared and finished the hike.

Great, easy hike. Hiked Saturday 8/18 and arrived around 10 AM to a fairly full parking lot but got lucky finding a spot in Lot 2. Lots of people hiking up and down and trail etiquette could definitely be better. Storm rolled in as we hit the lake so we turned back and jogged down (fun but a bit sketchy with all of the rocks).

Returned Sunday 8/19 around 12 PM to an overflowing lot and had to wait for a space. Eventually got in and up past the lake and over the glacier. Crossed the glacier in a narrow spot and did a little bouldering. Great time!!

While this is an easy hike, we did see people walking up in shorts and t shirts with no rain gear and a small bottle of water as the rain was starting. Always go prepared!

Wow, this is an amazing hike! It was the perfect length and difficulty, for the occasional hiker. We started at 7:30. Got the last spot on the side of the road at the trail head. We got to the lake at 11. We had a some sandwiches. The hike took almost 6 hrs. We took 45min total for rest. So happy we did this hike instead of Twin Sisters.

First of many hikes for my 9 yo son and I. I agree with the other reviewers this is not an easy beginner trail. We did make it up, but I was not expecting as much rock as there is. Especially right at the beginning. Having said that, it’s a beautiful trail and was definitely enough to trigger the hiking bug in my son.

Lots of rocks but beautiful views

Four star hike with 5 star views at the top.

Arrived at the trailhead at 9:15 on a Sunday. Plenty of parking and very quiet ascent. Coming down (around 10:15) parking was full and there were several groups heading up.

This is a quick hike because of the short distance but I would not rate it as “easy.” The incline is persistent and the terrain is very rocky at times. I’d definitely recommend hiking shoes.

Breathtaking views in all directions at the top!

My boyfriend and I loved this trail! Make sure you bring a pen or something to write with so you can fill out the parking form and pay your 5$ with exact change! It was definitely very rocky but it wasn’t terribly hard and the views were totally worth it. Will definitely be hiking this trail again!

One of my favorites. Great hike with the best views at the top. Barely any traffic near sunset and would highly recommend for out of towners (like me).

Steady traffic with pretty view. Would be nice to pack lunch and rest by the water. Lots of families and pups.

I thought this was an alright hike. I’ve been earlier in the summer (June) and it was a beautiful walk in though we didn’t make it to the lake due to snow. Beautiful snow capped mountains and roaring waterfalls. Went again mid August and wasn’t nearly as beautiful walk in and the lake was nice but I’ve seen much more beautiful ones in Colorado. Probably best times are June and July and then fall which I assume will start in September/October.

Amazing trail with plenty of water view and river trail!

Good, fairly easy hike. Bring plenty of water. Weather changes quickly. Very pretty views of the valley.

Did this hike with my wife in a sleet storm. Fairly easy hike for most of the way until you turn up Mount Chiquita. Cold and exposed! Beautiful though........

Was warned about the crowds, so we left the Bear Lake parking lot at 6:45 AM. Hike was peaceful and spectacular. We stopped 3-4 times to catch our breath. We hiked at a modest pace and finished in two hours.

Beautiful hike... Well-marked and easy to follow. It will fall between easy to moderately-difficult depending on the person. The last bit of the trail leading up to Emerald Lake is the most challenging portion: a steep incline with LOTS of stairs. Dream Lake and Emerald Lake are breathtaking and well worth it, though. I gave it four stars because of how heavily trafficked it was. If you are looking for a peaceful wilderness experience... this may not be the choice for you. Lots of people, loud voices, and cell phones at every turn.

Good trail with a nice challenging climb. Maintained well and easy to follow. The entire hike was a steady climb uphill, not many places where it leveled out. This is perfect practice for beginner hikers who want to hike a mountain at a higher elevation. My husband and I got to the trail head around 8am on a Saturday, only 2 other cars in the parking lot, and saw only a few people on the way up. On our way down it was much busier, saw many groups coming up and the parking lot was very full. I’d say if you are looking for a peaceful climb, get there early. It was a cloudy morning and very windy and cold at the top, storms were moving in. Even with the cloud cover the views were great. Will most likely do this again on a sunnier day.

We got to the parking lot by 8am on a Saturday and it was not even half full. Not very crowded on the way up and plenty of space for people to enjoy the views and get pictures. The altitude is what made this more challenging for me. The wind was pretty strong (not sure if that's typical) but I wish I would've had something to shield my ears against the wind. Coming down there were a lot more people and people were waiting for spots at 9:30. Make sure to bring exact change.
We saw a guy camping and he had a fire burning on a no burn day (which we told him). Don't be that guy!
