Beautiful winter trail hike if you’re looking for a nice stroll in the woods. Curious to see what it’s like in the warmer months. Lots of aspens, will definitely be back to the area in the fall next year!

The views were amazing! The trail is above tree line, so be prepared for strong winds.

Beautiful hike with lots of lakes and pretty views. Hiked this back in September. Saw mother and baby mountain goats. Not too many people on the trail, but definitely some traffic.

East trailhead Castle Trail up long switchbacks to Walker Ruins & Summer White Hse (great views west!) return Down Turkey Trot Trail north facing sections icey slush. 8am start, not too crowded mid week.Windy, layer up, gloves & ears. CMCDan,Nov 2 ,2018.

Hiked this 3 weeks ago and needed crampons to make it to the top. There are two ways to make it to the lake. One of them requires a rock scramble; but both are a steep climb. It's beautiful country and worth hiking it in the snow.

hiked this on Saturday 10/27 with a friend and puppy. we are in shape, but took our time. 3.5 miles round trip in an hour and 45 minutes. great views at start and end along with shadowy fields of pine trees. limited parking at wildernest start on a weekend.

Hiked 10/29/2018 Castle Trail up to the Presidents Summer House. Beautiful views. Not too busy. Perfect weather and views. Easy to moderate. Great trail while acclimating to the altitude.

Steep uphill climb for the first half if you're coming form Morrison, but lots of switchbacks makes it easy. Once you're at the top, you'll get an awesome view of Denver and Red Rocks. We also saw tons of wildlife. Lots of options for castle and trail exploring, too. Really good place to take someone new to hiking or visiting the area because you can stay up there for hours or come down if they're not feelin' it. Get ice cream in Morrison after!

Very quite, would probably be more enjoyable to the eyes in spring. No one on trail after beginning and decent amount of snow, afternoon of 10/26, especially after junction with the GRT. Didn’t make it to the top of the pass but attempted it, decided to turn around after snow got deep and the sun had settled over the mountains. An eerie area

Well marked, well maintained trails. Some nice views and interesting ruins. A lot of side trails near the top, so you can make it a bit longer. Not too much elevation gain; kind of a mild trail. Not crowded this morning (Tuesday).

I would like to clarify that this route displayed here is NOT the Rainbow Lake Trail. It is actually the Rainbow Lake Trail, then the Masontown Tail, then cuts off the Masontown trail to Bill's Ranch Trail, then meets back up with the Rainbow Lakes Trail. The actual Rainbow Lakes trail is just an out and back to the lake. Don't get lost people, this is NOT Rainbow Lake Trail ONLY!!!!! There is no loop as part of the trail. It is ONLY OUT AND BACK! You will see trail signs that say this along the way and will not match what AllTrails is saying. This incorrect info as a guide makes me rather irritated as many people get lost and stranded on Mount Royal for not using accurate information about their hikes. Trust me, I live at THE TRAIL HEADS! ALSO: I have suggest an edit of this trail which has not yet been approved. This comment may become irrelevant after edit approval.

I ended hooking up with the Mineral Hill trail which was pretty flat and wrapped around the hill, going through several boulder fields. It would be very pretty when the aspens were changing.

Hiked this on Monday, after a snowfall from the weekend. You get great views of several different ranges on a very easy, well-marked trail. I've hiked all over this damn state but this was my first moose sighting! A mother and baby grazing right at the trailhead. The trail does not require spikes as of 10/15/18.

Hiked with trail with my husband and two daughters (ages 12 and 9). Saw 4 moose right when we started!!! Trail was easy to hike and the lake is really pretty.

Nice trail that was quick and easy! Most of the aspens has already lost their leaves though.

I believe I left a green nalgene water bottle covered in stickers on this trail. If anyone finds it could you please let me know?

Nice steep incline to start and great views! Not crazy packed and met nice people along the way! I’ll be back because it’s only 27minutes from where I live in Denver!

The upper lot is a little over a mile above main lot. Trailhead signs point to Spruce Creek and Wheeler trails. Made it to next lake above lower Mohawk then turned back due to weather, about 3mi into hike. Upper lake another 1mi. A strenuous beautiful hike. Easy to lose trail past lower lake—follow AllTrails map closely. Interestingly the Burro trail from base of Peak 9 finishes about half way between upper and lower lots.

Gorgeous hike! Has everything: wildflowers, wildlife (big horn sheep!), waterfalls, and alpine lakes. It’s a bit beat at the higher altitudes to that point you question if you’re still on the trail at the rockier spots nears the lakes, but I found it to be an ‘all paths lead home’ situation. Enjoy.

Lotsa tree roots in this hike through the woods but worth the side views of the creek.

Very easy hike. We saw a moose!

Beautiful upper Mohawk lake . The sun rays reflected from the lake’s surface seemed like little sparkling stars . The trail itself is a tough one especially for those not accustomed to the elevation. We also parked at the bottom parking lot but we did not mind hiking through the woods . Also the effort is only worth it if you go all the way up to upper Mohawk lake . We took snack breaks at the lower lake and the two waterfalls to keep us going.

Nice trail for families and older adults. Great colors.

Easy hike cool that it’s close to red rocks can hear a little bit of music if something is going on there

9/30/18: Beautiful and challenging for a backpack trek. Aspens are great all the way up to the lake. The trail is steep, but not too painful. The trail is very narrow in sections and one portion is cut into a hill and you feel as though you might slide off. Trees were great this weekend. If you’re going up to camp, please mind the 100’ from the lake expectation, even if you see an established camp. Also, to those with dogs: the first few miles are on a southern slope and it was hot. No water access until the lake.

Great fall foliage!

Got a late start and made it to the second lake 3.4 into it. Epic Mountain View’s, Beautiful Lake had a nice lunch and soaked it all in. Then hoofed it back. If you have 4x4 and are limited in time I would recommend driving further up and hiking the rest of the way to the final lake.

Nice out and back. Great views

This was a great trail - but - as others have indicated - a little bit of a journey getting to lower Mohawk Lake. The first part of Spruce Creek Trail is easy to follow with great blue diamond markers. Once you get to the rocky part of the trail - it’s a little more difficult. Several people we met along the way were confused as to where the trail actually was. That said, it was still a very fun hike, with good scenery along the way. Making it to upper Mohawk Lake was really cool - as it kinda comes out of nowhere. It allows for a great place to take a break, have some snacks and enjoy the view. The additional waterfalls and lakes along the way make for great rest points too. The fact you can hit the trail in about 15 minutes from Breck is a nice feature, also.
