Hiking

Might be a fun hike once all the dirt gets packed down. right now it's like jogging on the beach!

Nice hike with the exception of the tilled sand/soil areas, those make it a little rough and places. Otherwise super fun and not too buggy yet

Walking

This was a nice, easy trail. It is paved and we took our pup. There was plenty of room for people on bikes and walkers. Everyone we encountered was very nice. All dogs were leashed and behaved. We had a very pleasant morning walk!

Hot. No breeze along the riverfront, but it was beautiful nonetheless.

Bird watchingGreat!

We followed the map to the trail head and found ‘Wild Turkey Road’. I can see how someone would describe it as ‘just a dirt road’. It’s pretty but all it is is a road through the Forrest. We turned around and went back to the car and decided to drive further on- that’s when we found Boynton House and the trail- that was amazing and beautiful! We will go back because there were many off trails we’d like to explore. Wish there was a better map and more information at the site.

HikingGreat!

Sections near the road were still wet from rain 3 days ago. I had to change into backup shoes and socks. Overall flat and clean. I did this trail on a Friday, and again on Saturday. Quite a few more people out on Saturdays. Friday I saw 2 other people total, both walking dogs. With all the roots and puddles, I can't see this being great for mt. bikes.

About half of the trail is newly tilled dirt road making for a very squishy hike. The path down to the river was nice but short and the part in between the dirt roads was some nice forest hiking.

WalkingGreat!

Two New York elder walkers loved this trail. Flat and dry along the old swampy rice field dike.. Loads of big gators, flock of Wood Storks, many herons. We had gorgeous weather. I imagine the insects get bad in the summer. Turn right at the trail sign and park by the old abandoned, decayed house. No potty.

HikingGreat!

I love the view of the river’s sharp turn from the overlook; the view of International paper plant, and the other plant far off in the distance. I was hoping to see downtown Columbia; but didn’t see it. At the end of the trail, I climbed up the hill to get back to the top ( which was a little scary)

Watch out for sunbathing alligators! Trail is well marked and despite the amount of rain we have had lately it was also relatively dry. Overall a great hike for the Lowcountry.

RunningGreat!

This is a great trail for walking, running and riding your bike. It is quiet with minimal traffic on the weekdays. There are two access points. You'll drive past the first heading into the parking lot. The second access point is towards the back of the parking lot. If you choose the second access point, you'll have to cross a small beach and climb the rocks to get onto the dike. It's six miles in and out (3 in, 3 back). Mile 3 takes you to the end of the lake, you can keep going farther, but I turned around. There is a boat launch available for public use.

Great little trail. Extremely well marked - we did the perimeter loop but saw that a portion of the blue trail was very wet. No wildlife today.

There are a few benches to sit and rest. No restrooms nearby. There were a few drinking fountains available for people and pets but don't know if they work, didn't test any of them.

Based on description and photos I believe the coordinates may be off or GPS is off. Where the app took me was to a dirt road that led to nowhere with zero scenery. On the way out I saw a trail that paralleled the one I hiked that looked more like the pictures in the app. Will check it out soon and post follow up.

Nature tripsGreat!

Nicely blazed trails. Very quiet! Blue is short and wide with pretty pines & grasses. Yellow is short also but a little longer. I did both to add distance. It was a little tricky to transition from blue to yellow but found my way fairly easily thanks to prior recording on AllTrails. Tons of birds so if you are a bird watcher, bring your binoculars! A few spots with benches too. My recording didn't capture the whole trail. It was 2 miles total.
