Hiking

The FSR 103 road is muddy and rough following an early season snow. It was difficult to discern where the road ended and the trail began.

Backpacking

Very enjoyable and remote trail. The directions will take you down the road to the Northwest College Field Station. This is not the correct road. Follow Chief Joseph highway for another mile until you see a small dirt road to the left with a green gate. This is FSR103. Follow this road for three miles and you will be at the trailhead.

A very rewarding hike to a prominent peak with exceptional views. There are two challenging sections of uphill, the first around the halfway mark as you leave the meadow and then the last half mile to the peak.

Hiking

My husband and I went on this hike 11-17-18. There is a small area to park. Make sure to follow the trail straight from the parking area then go to the right and cross the stream/river (a little difficult when hiking) to get to the more scenic trail. Otherwise if you go to the left and up the hill a little it heads to a road that you can walk on. On our hike we saw wolf tracks, a bison and a grouse! We didn't make it the whole way due to getting a late start. I would recommend if you are looking for a nice hike/walk and a chance to see wildlife!
