Moderate climb to a steady hike. Quite busy. Go early!

Such a beautiful hike. Brings lots of water and snacks and/or lunch that you can eat at the falls.

I will start with advice, if you want the best trip to the falls check the SF tides chart. Try to get to the falls 2 hours before or after low tide, any other time there will be no beach to see the falls from, it will all be water. And you will have to stay on the rocks.
Also from the top of The falls to the bottom is very sharp loose shale rock you are on you butt going down and must use your hands and knees going up, with shorts your knees could be cut up.

The trail itself is great, it goes from hundreds of feet up above the water to completely shaded by the trees.
Not much uphill at all

Beautiful hike with shade along the way. A long hike at 13-14 miles but so worth it. Take some snacks to enjoy the beach once you arrive ! It’s a busy hike but not too many people. Parking gets full very quick so unless you want to hike a couple more miles , get there early to get parking.

Busy but not too crowded. Trailhead parking is definitely packed by mid morning on the weekends. This is a fun one!

Fantastic Hike, getting to the Beach to stand below the falls is a MUST!!

nice hike it has couple small waterfalls, around 1 miles is uphill and the rest is easy

Breathtaking view especially at sunset. Of course a must on every drive down Hwy 1!

Absolutely beautiful place! So glad somebody on the trail let me know where the turn off was. I’m pretty sure I would’ve missed it. I will definitely come back and plan to bring my bathing suit so I can jump in the water at the end!

That's a nice hike in point rayes . we did on weekend Oct 27. was a lot of hikers but still more then enough space for everyone. Beautiful green scenario feels like its spring but its almost November. Amazing almost clear all day. pretty views of ocean shore and breeze, nature lakes ,and waterfall by the shore. Recomend to try and enjoy what you love to do.

Great hike! Beautiful forest trees and gorgeous views. We misted the waterfall trail and had to go back and use the map to find it. Path to the waterfall is tight and at the end is climbing down the hill holding on to the big rocks on the sides. Was kind of scary for me but all worth it! Will go back again...!

That last descent down to the beach, and then back up again was a bit scary for this fat man, but was well worth it in the end.

I wish it would be longer but it’s still a nice stroll. Good place to get away and clear your head.

So gorgeous! Went on a Sunday a few weeks back got to the parking by 9 and barely anyone so the hike and beach were basically to ourselves. We did the short cut and climb is hard. I brought gloves which helped.

Great hike!

Very short. $10 fee for parking if you park in the state park parking lot. And once you get to the walkway a large portion of it is closed off which was disappointing because it would be a much better view of the falls if we could go further out on the walkway/viewpoint. With that being said the portion of the walkway that was closed off did look very decrepit. But you’d think with the hundreds of dollars they make per day on parking alone that they’d fix the walkway of one of the most famous sights on Hwy 1 but I digress.
My suggestions would be to park along the highway to save the $10 (or pay and hope they fix the walkway at some point). I also think you may be able to see the falls from the Hwy just north of the parking lot. We missed it yesterday but are planning on stopping there today. It’s just a small turn out off the road but there were many people stopped there taking pictures back towards the direction of the falls.

Pretty coastal views at the beginning and a surprisingly beautiful waterfall that drops right into the ocean at the end; not particularly strenuous, but there are some good opportunities to scramble down rocks by the falls to the beach. The trail to the falls from the Coast Trail is not an official trail, though the beginning of the trail was marked by an arrow on the Coast Trail at about the 4 mile mark. There is a lot of poison oak on the side trail, so long pants/sleeves are recommended.

I really enjoyed this hike, the ascent is gradual, the trail is wide enough, and the vistas are amazing.

Hiked with my girlfriends and the views were incredible.

Steady incline and amazing views of the ocean! Not very shaded but good for an overcast day

Beautiful coastal hike with a very rewarding waterfall at the end. It's an easy hike but still a great workout. I went on a weekday and arrived around 1030A and there were only 2 other cars in the parking lot. I pretty much had the whole trail to myself. There's lots of shades which is a plus on warm days. I didn't pay attention and missed the left to the falls but luckily since I was checking the GPS on the app, I caught it quickly. I noticed there a set of blue colored rocks to mark that left turn. Keep an eye out for that! The tide was kinda high today (10/11) and I was a wimp to walk on the beach but when I saw other people do it, I was game and took off my shoes. It actually wasn't that bad. I really love this hike!

Great close by hike with beautiful views and fun walking through the ruined house and waterfall. We started early (7:45 AM) so trail was empty. We started counter clockwise on Solstice canyon rd . We finished the loop in an hour and 15 minutes so decided to do it again this time clockwise starting with the rising sun trail which is a harder uphill. Ended up having a picnic at the ruins on our way down. Great workout and fun hike! Trail got pretty busy around 10 AM .

A beautiful park with well maintained and clearly marked trails. Parking at the trailhead is very limited and fills up fast. Rather than waiting for someone to leave we parked at a scenic overlook just up the road from the park entrance and walked the approx 3/4 mile to the trailhead.

We chose to do the loop counter-clockwise. The Solstice Canyon Trail is an old road bed, largely paved, but very degraded in sections. We saw folks pushing baby strollers up to Tropical Terrace. It's more of a walk than a hike, but it is definitely up hill all the way. It's shadey and canyony. Quite lovely. It ends at Tropical Terrace, the site of an old residence. It's a beautiful setting with lots of non native tropical vegetation. This is also the site of the waterfall, barely a trickle on our visit after our long, arid spring and summer.

We chose the Rising Sun Trail for our return. This is truly a hike. It's a trail, not an old road. After a quick and easy stream crossing there is a long slog uphill, nearly to the crest of the ridge in front of you. It will get your heart rate up, but it's very doable. Sections have steps built into the hillside. Once the crest is reached, there is a long traverse with beautiful canyon and eventual ocean views. Then the trail descends back to the trailhead.

This is a beautiful hike easily done as part of a day.

A little more challenging than moderate.

I've walked this trail plenty of times. Usually to take some friends that just want a simple walk in the woods that isn't too strenuous. Though it isn't my favorite. As other have mentioned parking is minimal and it is pretty congested. It's great after showers. If it wasn't for the crowd and location I would've given it another star. Bottom line: neat trail, parking sucks, initial paved road, and congestion.

Fantastic trail, easy, amazing views into the Pacific and Drakes Bay, saw sea lions and even spotted whales off the coast.

Was an easy hike and the views are breathtaking!

Good hike featuring a couple of historic sites and vegetation contrasting between desert/mountain/beach (similar to most hikes in the area). Not busy, dog-friendly, quick and easy. Waterfall was barely going, but it being still visible this time of year was a nice surprise!
