HikingGreat!

Great little hike. Only went down the trail towards the Snake River, and wanted to check out where we first did the overlook, but we ran out of time. It’s a little steep getting into the canyon (more for the older folks), but easy-going once you’re down.

Its a beautiful trail but today is so windy but we still manage to enjoy the trail. I would consider this a moderate trail. Wear a good hiking shoes.

We arrived at 9:20AM on a Sunday and there was 1 other car in the parking lot. We walked the loop counter clockwise descending into the canyon following the rim trail and going down at the cables. The last half of the trail is a gravel road and a hot, featureless walk so I recommend it as an out and back and turn back when you arrive at the gravel road. There are a couple of beautiful swimming spots with turquoise blue water. And a nice spot to view a wide, short drop waterfall. From the fee parking area it’s a ~3.6 mile loop. The parking lot was full when we returned so an early start is recommended.

Never been so it was a great place to wander. I took the flat trail as my first half based on some feedback of other reviews and think that was best for me. very beautiful views for sure

Nice trip down into the canyon but the road back is a little bland. I would probably turn around and come backwards next time.

Great hike and beautiful blue water. Parking lot has been upgraded with asphalt and port-a-potties. Trail has dried out a lot since early March posters mention.

The trail was clear and easy to access. There were areas that were still icy on the hike out due to the time of year.

HikingIcyMuddy

This trail is currently very muddy and slippery in places as there’s still some ice/snow on some parts of the trail. Tread slowly and with caution; it makes for a beautiful hike.

Beautiful but due to a little layer of snow i couldn't find the trail after 2.2 miles. Still serene and enjoyable.

some of the signage was tricky to follow. it is also a cross country ski trail so stay out of the tracks.

This was cool because you are surrounded by rocks and there is a lot to explore. Downsides, it’s very icy slushy right now, you definitely need four wheel drive to get to the closer parking lot. However it’s a good distance from the parking spot to the trailhead so from the car to the split on the trail where the loop begins and back to the car was 4.2 miles, the whole trip plus hike to and from car is closer to 7 miles than 5.

Bridge outSnow

There was a fire last summer, and the area is badly burned. The bridge is burned/destroyed, for example. I do not recommend this hike until the area recovers.

12/8/2020 While it was a pretty hike, this map is a little off. When pulling off the highway, you have to open and close a pasture fence to drive down to the next parking lot. From there continue down the main road for a half mile or so before you come to the actual trail head. When you’re not actually in the canyon, the trail disappears completely. We had this map up the whole time and followed along it directly, but above the canyon there is no trail where it says there should be. Up there we did see a big herd of Elk, which was super cool. Getting back into the canyon according to this map was steep and difficult. Probably not the best overall trail for kids and t was nice going in the winter while most of the water was frozen because the trail crosses the creek several times (however it is pretty narrow).
