Love the view but hate tht its bein modified!! :(

great hike in the middle of the busy city. I'm visiting from New Mexico and this was an easy get away. The staff were friendly and helpful too!

Half paved so if biked, use off road tires. only 2 sets of restroom facilities both on the same and of trail. Wide trail. Enjoy!

This little haven in the middle of Fairfax is the nicest place you can get away to with just driving 10-15mins from home. We enjoy every time we come here. Mostly for walking, fishing, and biking. Its open year round.

Great out & back for all levels and is kid friendly. Gets very crowded, so get there early. Very scenic with the river along the entire length of the trail, with plenty of places to stop and enjoy the views.

A wonderful, secluded patch of greenery with scenic trails and a calm, glistening body of water. A good soft breeze flows here, accompanied with the aroma of pine. Would do again! :)

Nice loop around a quaint lake. Perfect place to run! There are a lot of activities in the park to do other than the trail like fishing, golfing, mini-golf, carousel, train, boating, and frisbee golf

Went with husband, 14 yo son and dog. Fun trail for dogs and kids. Was muddy after rains, but didn't bother us. There are 2 creeks to cross by walking over rocks (fun!) and one small wooden bridge. We picked up the trail at the parking lot off Mt. Hope Rd. and walked north to see the dam that they are working on. It was about 1.2 miles each way. Trail was pretty easy to follow, though a bit overgrown in places, and there are some markings. It is also mostly shaded.

I brought my 12 year old and 5 year old with me. Both had a blast and were able to walk the entire way without trouble. Paths were clean and cleared. Just follow the blue markers.

The most interesting run was when a beaver was swimming at the same pace as me.

I usually add a couple more miles of the blue Bull Run trail to this but overall a fun little run. Make sure to study the map beforehand, the trailblazes are tricky the first time you go on it. Gets quite muddy after rain but on sunny days it is nice! This trail mostly follows the creek. There are some rocks and a semi-steep uphill climb at the very end—depending which way you start. Pretty busy on the weekends.

This is a great hike close to home. The trail is not cleaned up of branches and fallen trees regularly but I don’t mind. The lake is beautiful.

This is the place where lot of marathon runners train.

Only walked the top part of this trail, but i found it to be well marked (blue line), even, and lovely.

Great for walking and running. Sometimes there are too many bikers which can be annoying if you’re running or walking. Lots of shade and a few bathrooms available.

Great trail. i took my daughters on a weekday expecting to have the trail to ourselves, however there were a surprising number of other hikers and runners. the trail is easy to follow, but not well marked. we did get side tracked a couple of times. there are a couple of benches along the route. LOTS of fallen trees, but the path is well maintained. i don't think fires are allowed, so I brought a little alcohol stove and cooked up some lunch. there were other picknickers along the way as well. we did pass a mountain biker even though there are signs everywhere saying no cycling.

11/10 would visit again.

First hike of the summer with 6 tween/teens. Great hike. They didn’t love the uphill climb at the northern most point, but they all made it!!

This isn’t a place to ride bikes at all.

Part of the trail is closed for construction right now, just FYI!

I was aiming for a 20K trail-running PR today. It’s been raining cats and dogs, pigs, and cows, all week. I wish I had taken that into account more.

Aside from the course being very poorly marked with virtually no blazes or markings, which is why I rate it 3 stars, there is no forewarning that the trail is in a flood area. As far as I know there were no prior flood warnings announced. Perhaps there were in Fairfax County and in Northern Virginia, or perhaps I missed the announcements up here in the Baltimore County area.

Howbeit, this literally turned out to be one of the worst days to run a 20K, period. I ran right into above knee-high flooding when I got to the Difficult Run portion of the course. See my recording — I took a photo of this disaster. I was actually going to continue running through the flood which went on for miles, but the flood height would not relent — knee high and below is probably okay but still a risk, but thigh high is not a good idea at all. One simple cannot see all the under water snakes, rats, and other biting creatures trying to survive after being swept away by flood waters. Also, one runs the risk of being swept away by ensuing rapids. It’s just not a good idea.

I had no choice but to take a detour out of the park altogether onto the closest nearby road. I still managed to get in 10 miles; so at least I got in some weekly mileage.

It was only after I finished that I found out that this trail is in a high-risk flood area, and there was a news announcement 3 days ago. Here’s the web link: https://www.nbcwashington.com/weather/stories/Rain-Continues-Flooding-a-Concern-in-Parts-of-the-Area-482769511.html

ADVANCED WARNING: If you plan to run this course and it has been raining, do yourself a favor and find out the conditions of the course before launching out. Maybe I’ll return to complete the course, but I will ensure the area is completely dry first. Ugghh!!!

Absolutely beautiful and I plan to come back. I didn't know that I had to pay 10$ because I don't live in Fairfax but it was definitely worth the 10$! I will definitely visit again.

My go-to place for hiking, walking the dogs or running. Fairly easy and flat 4.7 mile trail. Go early as gets busy on nice and sunny days. Free for fairfax county residents ($10 for non-residents).

Good trail, easy walk or run with couple of cross main road.

$10 fee to get into the park for non residents

Fun trail with our 6 & 10 year old kids. It's a busy trail but we still saw lots of water fowl, a bald eagle, and a few deer. The leg of the trail that takes you through a neighborhood is bit strange. Lots of trash though, especially at the edges of the lake. Definitely needs a clean up day.
