The Choquequirao Trek is an alternative to the Inca Trail that culminates at the historic Machu Picchu. This backpacking trip takes you through the steep Apurimac Canyon with amazing views of the Apurimac River. This trek passes numerous archaeological sites including the Choquequirao ruins. The Choquequirao, or 'cradle of gold,' ruins were built around the same time as Machu Picchu by the Incan people. This alternative trek features many sites in the sacred valley including fantastic mountain ranges and inca sites. The trek starts in Capuliyoc and on the last day ascends the archeological site of Machu Picchu. This andean backing trip can be done with or without a guide. The trek includes many camping sites so bring your camping equipment and sleeping bag!
