Beautiful trails and waterfalls, great for a family hike. My kids spent a few hours splashing around in the river. What a fun day!

More commonly called Bridgeport. Not a great trail for small children. I have a 4 year old and it’s a somewhat narrow trail for a child. If I was alone, I would rate it 5 stars. Lots of trails down to the beautiful water to swim. Very crowded in summer towards the trailhead, the further you go, the more peaceful it gets.

*gravel road up to trailhead is a slow go, wash boards and rocky rocky.
*beautiful wonderful marvelous scenic easy short hike with lakes and forest.
*went in early November, so the crowds of summer are absent....
*lots of gorgeous other hiking in the area around here to explore.
*definately will come back here to explore some more.

A beautiful walk any time of year, but absolutely gorgeous in spring when the wild flowers are in bloom. Mostly flat, wide trail (unless you choose to go down to one of the swimming spots on the river). It's a popular trail for good reason!

Beautiful trail

Fun little ride.

nice relaxing trail. I love going in the fall with the amazing color changes of the trees and salamanders every where.

Fun little trail for the family. My 7yo daughter made it on her 16” Barbie bike. Down side were all the people who refuse to leash their dogs. Next time I’m going to hit the little bastard and see how my rockshox suck up a cockapoo instead of crashing to avoid hurting it.

Great walk run bike

It's the beautiful place. Highly reccomend! Awesome place for family, horses riders, bicycles. There are a lot of trails there. So you can choose if it will be easy or not. There is waterfall what makes this place better. Reccomend

Wonderful trail!

As a local, this is one of my favorite walks. Shady in the summer, beautiful in the fall, can be muddy in the winter. Dogs, horses and even lamas have been present on these trails. Near the Empire Mine Entrance is a clean bathroom that can come in handy. I’d recommend this trail to people visiting Grass Valley for sure.

nice moderate hike even though it says no dogs the dogs were everywhere very slippery near falls from mist nice hike

Easy, mostly wooded trail running along creek with great view of waterfall from nicely built overlooking deck at far end of loop.

Just did this hike today and was nice little hike. Only about 5 miles. Falls was beautiful. No people and free parking. Dirt road driving is rough so take proper vehicle.

Great dynamic trail with a bunch of beautiful homes to look at during certain sections of the trail. Impossible to get lost and not too long or to short.

Went here for a hike with my boyfriend and he proposed to me at the end of the hike at glacier lake! Couldn’t have been better! Trail itself was maintained good, mostly dirt, sand, some granite but not as much as we expected. Passed a lot of beautiful lakes along the way. Saw zero people on way up and only a few at the end. We went on a Friday morning though so likely more populated summer / weekends. Brought our dog. Off leash no problem ! Lots of squirrels and chipmunks. Beautiful lakes, good tree coverage, fall colors, scenic overlook. Was not a difficult hike at all. Very gradual inclines. Hadn’t been hiking once this year but have done multiple backpacking trips in our past. This was a perfect gradual reintroduction to getting back in nature. Lots of camping spots.

We took a 2001 Camry down the road, made it the whole way. Definitely would have been easier in a 4 wheel drive car or a car with higher clearance. Wouldn’t recommend taking a little car. The road was ok but the very end had a huge drop off ditch that was tricky to navigate. But we managed ! If it was rainy or had been a wet season the road would have been a lot worse.

I really enjoyed this hike! Ground was level and beautiful views and ran into some salamanders on the trail. Will definitely do it again!

Took the trail to the falls then detoured up a lot of rocks to the top of the falls back down and to the lake. Simply beautiful.

Decent hike. Not really worth the $10 parking fee. Most of the hike is in the shade. Lots of people

Great trail! Yes, it goes through a neighborhood in spots but the houses and yards are gorgeous so no complaints. Made for some nice sight-seeing. There were definitely some challenging hills and technical parts of the trail. Great for Spartan/OCR or trail racing training. The weather was perfect and only saw one person the whole time. Trail is well maintained and well marked.

This trail is awesome! Not sure why it says 4.8miles. It is actually 6 miles or so. Some of the inclines and declines especially toward the end are steeper. However, the falls and Yuba river are amazing sights. We are definitely coming back when it warms up. There are some pretty sweet pools going down the falls. We came in through Washington dirt road side(some rough areas; unmaintained) it’s about 12-13miles or so. It says to pay but the museum was closed and the town is only about 8 people. We carried on with no problems.

Beautiful single track. I am not an experienced mountain biker but enjoyed the ride. A few spots are very narrow with a steep hill facing down but I managed.

Great hike. Steep, but shady too!

It a pretty fun trail. I’m fairly new to hiking and am a pretty heavy gal so this was a great beginning trail for me. There were a few spots that were slightly challenging but overall it was a beautiful hike. I would recommend hiking down to the stream on the southwest side of the bridge and lookout point, there is a great spot to rest and chill by the creek.

Great easy trail! Was shaded most of the way, and very flat. It was cool to walk along the canal the whole time. My dog loved jumping in and out of the water. Not too much foot traffic for a weekend, but ran into a few people. Parked at what I think is the middle of the trail, on the shoulder of Red Dog Rd. Was told you could also park at the other end of the trail, may have to check that out next time. Would definitely go to this trail again.

This trail is one of the best I’ve been to. I’m a beginner hiker and went with an experienced hiker who had done the trail once before. It’s not marked in certain spots so it’s good to go with someone you know. Making it to Penner Lake, starting at Carr Lake took us about 5 hours to complete walking at normal pace and only stopping to take in the view and having lunch once we got to Penner. I’d rate the terrain as medium with mild inclines once you get closer to Penner it gets a little steep, but nothing too bad. It’s a great hike in October! Not a lot of people on Monday (Columbus Day!) but we were glad to find a hunter on the trail and about three other small groups of hikers. One thing I learned here is you can hike, backpack in and camp, camp at the campgrounds, bring a pet, come for the day or the night, it will not disappoint. Every single step provides a new scene and a new Lake to see. Breathtaking views. And it didn’t cost us anything but fuel and the food we brought for snacks and lunch. I can’t wait to come back and camp here. We did the entire 6 miles in one afternoon and we’re pretty tired by the time we reached the parking lot. Stopped in Grass-valley at Big A’s for early dinner-perfect ending for a perfect day hike trip!
