Trail is closed from dec 31 to June because of wildlife look forward to hike in june

Fantastic hike! Crampons are a must. Steep incline at the onset but views right away. Quite windy along the ridge but some of the best views I’ve got in Kananaskis. Worth every bit of effort, can’t wait to hike it in the summer.

Nice views quickly after putting in some work! Be sure to wear spikes if there is snow still. Went today and it felt like we were rebreaking trail in some spots! Will be going again in the summer!

Great spikes trail. Easy to follow trail for the first part, snow had filled in the packed trail in the middle sections of the ups and downs but still could follow. Fantastic views at all times except for the steep part after leaving the parking lot. Great winter trail!

Loved this hike. Little hard to find the trail head but it’s just behind the green map sign. Goes straight into a hectic ascent but eventually ends up in a nice undulating climb. Wore crampons and gators and they were both necessary. Beautiful views

Nice trail! Did with a doggo who also enjoyed it. No signs for Boom lake if you’re coming from Radium way, look out for the turning! Did with cleats on but would probably be fine without. Nice opening at the end where the snowy frozen lake is, would be pretty sweet in the summertime!

Sweet walk! Pretty cool canyon, definitely worth checking out if you’re driving by

Brought my 2 year old German Shepherd Husky and she loved it! Beautiful, quiet winter hike!

Beautiful winter hike. No one else around.

Very pretty scenery through woods ending at mountains and a glacier. Had lunch at end and took in the views.

The trail was compacted well enough for us all to hike with just good quality boots.
While there are more challenging hikes around. This is a very enjoyable trail with a beautiful clearing as you reach the lake.
It was perfect during the day we went.

A very rewarding hike with a stunning view of Ha Ling and Canmore. difficult but worth it. Ice cleats recommend as the scramble is still quite slippery

Love this hike! Views are spectacular!

My favourite hike of all time.

Neat little hike, did it with snowshoes but the trail was packed enough that you could probably easily manage without.

Some of the best views you can get so close to the city! If you have the time and patience, scramble all the way to the summit for unreal 360 degree views. The ups and downs are tiring on the way back since its about 16km round trip.

Trust the ratings when it says this trail is hard. There was a lot of scramble to get to the summit, and although we brought our dog, he could not make it to the summit, with fear he would cut the pads of his paws. I recommend bringing back up socks for the decent once you pass the snow.

This trail has no markers or set paths, so be very cautious you don't get turned around on the way down.

Goat Pond is a short drive past the start point for some easy sight seeing.

Winter wonderland

great winter trail. The snow was very packed down, ended up not needing snowshoes. Easy to find and navigate.

We took our XC skis out February 21 and there was plenty of snow. Beautiful hike in the trees until we got to the lake where it opens up to Mountain View’s. Great trail we will come again.

Physically challenging pretty much right out of the parking lot. A lot of undulating hills along the ridge will have you cursing on the way back. Stunning views in every direction from up top.

Feb 1st 2017 • Lots of snow, snowshoes needed. Lots of elevation gain at the beginning but well worth the work. Levels out to some amazing views!

Awesome views

Awesome snowshoe hike. The views are amazing and there was hardly anybody on the trail.
I’d rate it more easy than moderate, since the inclination is very gradual except for some hilly parts near the end. Took us
3 1/2 hours to complete it including snack and numerous photo breaks.
Can’t wait to see the lake in summer!

Wasootch Day Use Area is 17 KM south on Kananaskis Trail (Hwy 40). The trail head is fairly easy to locate but you are presented with a myriad of trails right at the onset. I found the best route is to immediately bear right towards the picnic bench and then follow the trail up from there. Note: The green trail map sign at the trailhead will tell you nothing of the trail to the ridge. It’s a fairly strenuous climb at first; edgy sections with small exposure, loose rock over slab, ~160m gain in 0.5km. Once on the ridge, it’s a series of up and down to several peaks. . I hit 5 minor peaks and only hiked just over half the trail! This day I just didn’t have the energy. The views all around are what makes this trip worthwhile. Right from the start, just turn around and take in the scenery, it’s breathtaking. I covered around 8.5km total trip, with ~765m elevation gain. The return trip would have been fairly treacherous if it was wet, lucky for me it stayed

It was great in the winter. Only advice would be to watch little ones near the rails because there is a lot of snow build up. We went in March last year, hiked the trail and had lunch in the snow. Two people ice climbing and other than that it was complete solitude. There is an amazing aspect of the Rockies in off season!

Did this one solo in mid-december was in great condition. Easy, short scramble with no technical challenges. Can be done in less than 3 hours at a decent pace. Some snow on the way to the summit but did not need cleats, however I would recommend bringing them depending on your comfort level. Going a bit off trail you can climb some fun slabs on the way to the south scree slopes. Great views of Ha Ling and Mt Lawrence Grassi to the east pretty much the whole way, especially once you reach the treeline.
