This trail is pretty short, but don’t let that fool you! You can spend a lot of time exploring this area. I thought it was very peaceful, I did this hike around 7am in February. So not a lot of people were out, but by the time I finished the parking lot was full. I took my time exploring the rock features along the way. Plus, it’s probably the only place you’re going to see a body of water in the park. Lol.

my girlfriend and I loved this hike! Unfortunately our car got broken into while we were gone.

Favorite trail to take with kids. Just hard enough to keep them challenged without too much complaining, fun boulder scrambling opportunities. Bring a lunch and wear a bathing suit if it's been a wet year, kids love to splash around in the water.

Great view and not many people

Excellent hike! Best type of hike - circular, non-repeating, with wonderful destinations at the midpoint. Also, a lot of cross-crossing trails to climb me back and explore.

Nice views ! Great place to bring your dog

A fun little hike in Joshua Tree. Pretty short and easy. Like a lot of places in Joshua Tree, the rock formations are pretty fun to explore and climb. The dam itself and the history are pretty interesting.

Definitely more “touristy” due to the short length and ease of the hike, but still fun to see.

Beautiful views and very peaceful!

Fun scramble beyond the lake

Life's a Beach!

A very nice hiking loop. We enjoyed it very much.

Trail was closed today due to maintenance/weather

Great quick hike for a nice view of Bay Area and City all in one.

We enjoyed this easy loop trail with lots to see and fun photography options. Lots of places to scamper on the rocks and a good trail for those more interested in meandering.

This place is great for family hikes, easy and fun for kids...one big main trail and small fun rigid trails cut through it.

The hike to the dam is easy and the dam itself is worth the visit.

This is great for a quick hike/trail run. Especially if you take the longer trail.

Just Beautiful!!

I have never been hiking in Joshua Tree National Park, so this is a question for those who have traveled and hiked here. Do you have tour guides or just offer maps to hike each trail listed on your own? Thank you!

This was a nice easy scenic trail. Have an opportunity to sit and hang out on the rocks over the damned pond.

Not dog friendly. No bikes. State park. So the area below (the field) can have dogs on leash. But no dogs allowed on the trail sadly :/

Absolutely beautiful little trail. Driving to the trailhead itself offered gorgeous views of the mountains, canyons, and distant oceans.

The river beds were all dried up, but there is some flowing water when you get down to the grotto. The trail itself is pretty easy, but more towards the moderate side considering some of the loose rock on the somewhat steep inclines down into the canyon.

Although I was wearing long sleeves and pants, I did find a tick on my dog and one burrowing in my side when I got home, so please check yourselves if you do this hike.

Very nice hike especially in spring when there is still water in the little lake that is barred by the dam. Unfortunately it has the same problem as Hidden Valley...too many people.

I loved this hike. It was well marked, easy terrain, and the damn was interesting to see. There is one small section that might be a bit challenging for those with mobility issues, otherwise a great hike for all skill levels.

Beautiful views. Easy hike. You really can’t beat the ocean views. Plenty of places to stop at a picnic bench. Trails are clearly marked. I’d give this trail 6 stars if possible. Worth way more than the 4$ parking fee.

Beautiful view from the bench at the top!

Super Duper easy but the hike at Sunset is amazingly gorgeous!!!!

I really enjoyed this hike, it was short and easy to follow. Once we reached the dam we climbed some rocks and relaxed and took in the beautiful view. I would definitely like to do this hike again.

Very crowded on a Sunday morning, which was to be expected for such a nice trail that wasn’t too difficult and you are rewarded with the waterfall at the bottom!
