The hike up is short but if wet (as it was for us) it would be slippery coming back down. We elected to take the alternate route back. It is worth the detour. Beautiful hike in the woods crisscrossing several streams. The view from humpback is awesome! It was a bit crowded but nothing unusual for other good hikes in August.

Great hike for young children. Trail is strenuous but short. Great view at the top.

Fun river crossings and a easy hike up and back. I recommend going in the mornings to beat the crowds.

Perfect hike for anyone looking to take in some beautiful scenery, diverse landscape and breathtaking views from the top!

Nice loop, a moderate climb to the pinnacle and good views at the top.

Spectacular views. A little busy.

I agree with the moderate designation. There were a good amount of inclines towards the end which could be challenging for those not physically fit. There were some beautiful views, a lot of it was wooded, and a few streams. We never came across the wading pool that’s mentioned in some of the other reviews. I don’t know if it was due to low water levels or if it just doesn’t exist. All in all a great hike. Would recommend.

Wonderful climb to the top with spectacular views from the rocks.

Fun hike! Beautiful scenery. The boulders at the top are challenging to younger hikers. I would rate this as moderate for young hikers.

Great hike. Our dogs loved crossing the water many times.

Well maintained trail. Swimming hole is pretty. But otherwise it's a pretty uneventful hike.

Nice day hike to lovely falls at the top. Several rock crossings may leave you with wet boots! Or wear your swimsuit and take a dip.

This trail is a lot of fun with some pretty amazing views at the top. I stayed at the summit and watched the sunset. Camped close to the summit and got up and watched the sunrise. It was a perfect little trip. Took the longer easier way down. Pretty views there as well. Saw lots of bear too!!!!

I love taking this early in the morning when there aren’t many people and it’s not so hot. A great view to sit and enjoy morning coffee! It’s worth the climb!

I loved this hike! The southern portion of this trail is probably the most taxing- I had the most water breaks here as the grade gets a little steep. Overall there were some amazing views and a great swimming hole I want to enjoy when I’m better prepared next time! Didn’t see any bears but there were some fresh Poo-berries all up and down the trail, so I know they are around!

It’s a fairly easy hike and the views are great! I will say the last 1000ft are fairly rocky and might be tedious for anyone with bad or weak knees. The bugs are also getting bad up toward the top so I highly recommend some bug spray!

hiked up there today for the first time and with my 2 grandkids, 4 and 5, and we loved it! It is a climb but it is worth the views.

Really nice hike for a family of four with a 9 and 5 year old in tow.

currently the downloaded trail is not accurate.park service has it roped off alternate trail was much more challenging. not what I was expecting, but what an awesome hike!

Lovely hike with lots of variety. Deep, dark, and cool forest glenns with magnificent ferns. Hillsides full of native rhododendron, azaleas, and mountain laurel (I’d love to take this walk in June). Hot, sunny passages through sandy terrain where blueberries were ripening along the path. Stands of pine trees with needle-covered paths (so comfortable for walking). Stream crossings, a swimming hole, and several spectacular views. It wasn’t terribly busy on a beautiful July day. There were some strenuous sections—we took the Wildcat Ridge trail uphill at the end to our car, which we parked in the lot at mile marker 92, and I was pretty tired. There’s also a fair amount of uneven, rocky trail that requires careful attention.

Started at Riprap trailhead and went clockwise because I like hitting all the good spots near the end of the hike. It was good to get the AT section out of the way first.
Riprap completely lived up to my expectations. Absolutely loved this hike, and I’m already thinking about when to go again. Perfect distance, hearty elevation change that isn’t draining, refreshing water (bring a bathing suit!!), and gorgeous views. I can’t recommend this trail enough!

Nice fun trail with awesome scenery.

Absolutely stunning.

Great hike. Moderate difficulty. Great view from the Rocks

This trail was a lot of fun for an out and back trial. There are a couple waterfalls with lots of stream and cascade views. Fairly flat and anyone of any physical ability could do it. I will probably be doing this one again as well.

Very boring not much too see.

A good hike to do on a hot day. It was in the 90's but next to the river and in the shade, it was very cool. A nice short hike to swimming holes and enough area that it doesn't feel too crowded.

Riprap loop, with a bit of it done twice thanks to a brief thunderstorm that had me retreating from the ridge line to backtrack and start again going clockwise. Great hike, and requires far less time than stated here (and certainly less than the 8.25hrs the Park Service clocks it at). If it hadn’t been for the extra three miles, I could’ve come in right around the 3hr mark.

Great hike and amazing views.

Beautiful hike, have been going up for years. It is a bit of a climb but as long as you are in decent shape it shouldn't be too difficult. The views are well worth it.
