HikingGreat!IcySnow

We went today in the morning around 6am. Only two of us and another group of two people. We we went the stairs were icy mid way and made it difficult to get to the top, the other group turned around but we continued, slipped a few time but it was worth it.

I love this climb! Short but steep and narrow and the view on top is amazing ! You can see the whole Sequoia forest below, lots of people on top just hanging out and waiting for the sunset which was spectacular

Beautiful views!! Tunnels were amazing including the graffiti. Inside tunnels had a lot of ice, therefore use creepers or spikes on your boots. Had the opportunity to hike with snowshoes too! Awesome hike with lots of snow! Met friendly hikers, cross country skiers and snowboarders. Totally recommend this hike!

WalkingGreat!

Did it in september 2019. We stoped on parking lot near giant forest museum and walked from there. Easy walk through beatiful forest and we saw a bear! Moro rock was little bit crowded bot great view. Nice and easy afternoon hike.

Not bad, not extreme, touristy but very for for what it was. It’s a must if your in the area. It’s was ice, then slushy.

Beautiful trail and a LOT of snow! Definitely bring your shoe traction as the tunnels have thick ice. There were some spots where snowshoes would have been a little smoother to traverse, but was fun wading thigh deep through some of the heavy snow paths between tunnels. Dress warm and bring waterproof shoes

Nice stroll. At the end stairs I climbed down the rocks and that made the outing a little bit athletic ;)

Easy side of the moderate. Mask required due to narrow trail and impossible to keep social distance

here are several Good tips to know: We arrived at about 11 AM. Definitely needed the clamp on’s to add to hiking boots because there are some very icy spots in the first tunnels. Took the clamp ons off in the long tunnel, the one with window slats, which did not have snow or ice, just rocky ground, Didn’t want to dull the clamp on spikes by walking on the rocks. definitely nice to have a headlamp so you can see the art hands free in the dark tunnels. Plus to see where you’re stepping to avoid a trip and fall. 45° is colder inside the tunnel especially without sunlight, so definitely bring your warm ski clothes and layers! Waterproof boots are nice too because I walked through some snow to get to the first tunnel Where oh where to park? We parked directly across the street from Donner ski ranch The first tunnel is visible from there & its a free parking lot but getting into that lot is a bit tricky The first tunnel is close by & visible from the parking lot.

Good route to see hanging rock, Moro rock, and go through the giant forest via Soldiers Trail. The trail avoids the road. Moro rock is crowded with noisy people, but then Soldiers Trail offers peace and quiet. This loop is more difficult than an out and back walk to Moro rock from the museum. (The road to Moro rock is closed in the winter.)

Such an easy and cool cave to get to!! Go to the left and the right when getting to the bottom. The cave is on both sides. Going to the right will get you to the part where you will need a headlamp- we chickened out.
