short hike to reach the falls.

The trail up is pretty bland and boring— not too much to see. It was just gravel all the way up. The top of the fire tower was locked when we went up which was a bummer. If there were no hotel ruins to explore I would say it’s not too worth it. The overlook was nice but I’ve seen better views on top of other mountains.

Really cool beginner trail. This is where my GF and I got started and it introduces you to a lot of terrain that you will experience on bigger trails. Our dog had a blast and there are great camp sites around

This is a busy trail specially on nice weather. This is a moderate hike. weather condition changes at the summit. It was below 40's windchill at the top today

Beautiful View. Easy Hike! Make sure to park at Laurel House Road. Be very careful and stay on trails.

My friend and I didn’t really plan the hike to well we just knew we wanted to find a good hike and solid camp. We started parked at woodlands and was told to just go up the trail in the parking lot. 2pm we hit the trail thinking we were going towardsWittenberg but we ended up doing a different trail towards panther. We ended up going towards slide at the crossroads for the parking Lot for Panther, panther mountain and slide. Was a pretty cool trail until it turned us onto a road. Thank god other travelers were going the opposite direction directing us a mile down the road to slide mountain. Saw some awesome but limited views. We got below 3500ft and set up camp and cooked right about 6pm. Next morning we made our coffee and breakfast hit the trail and saw the best views at Cornell and Wittenberg. We started at 730 and finished both peaks and back to woodlands parking lot at 10. Overall hike was well marked and happy we did the way we went because going the opposite way you have to climb a lot more and is a little tough with a pack.

Hiked this trail with my husband and two dogs this weekend. This was the first trail we’ve ever taken them on and the path is really even gravel. I think what makes this trail other than the views is the extremely friendly volunteers at the top.

quite boring, same from top to bottom your walking in a washed out dirt road with gravel & stones I rate it eases but bad on your knees won't be back

Giant Ledge is probably one of the most accessible hikes in the Catskills in that it’s fairly short and easy and you are rewarded with some of the best views in the region. I’ve hiked it at night for some awesome stargazing as well as backpacked in and stayed overnight at the designated sites up on Giant Ledge. Caught a great sunset and sunrise on that trip!

I'm relatively new to hiking and have been aiming for moderate trails over easy, to challenge myself, gain experience and build endurance. Well this trail definitely helped with that. Steep hike with extremely rocky terrain. I found going up to be challenging but fun, but going down was extremely tough for me. The rocks are tough on the knees and feet. I'm thankful I invested in a good pair of hiking boots and trekking poles or it would have been a lot worse for me. The trail is beautiful, but I have to admit, I had my head down most of the way, because you have to watch your footing. There were some pretty intensely muddy spots on the trail, but that is to be expected with the amount of rain we've been getting. Bugs were not an issue at all except for the black flies at the top of Panther. Trail markers were easy to find. The ledges were some of the best views I've ever seen. We made friends with a little hungry chipmunk on the ledges and had lunch with a snake on the top of Panther. It was not too crowded, as we started at 7:30am. There were about 3 cars there before us, one being the trail steward, who stayed at the ledges. This was definitely a challenge for a new hiker but exactly what I was looking for. Sore today for sure, but still thinking about the lovely views at the top.

Nice trail. Great views!!! Some Rocky areas were harder/slippery and some trees have fall on the trail. Good variety of views and landscapes

great hike. not too hard at all. nothing exciting on the trail, just a gravel trail that goes up. once you get to the top the views are beautiful from both the tower and the rock ledge. nothing too crazy but the views are definitely amazing

Being the highest peak in the Catskills I anticipated more of a grueling hike up but that was not the case. Typical Catskill hike...rocks everywhere on the trail and a limited view from the peak. There are a couple viewing spots off the trail up that offer nice views of the rest of the Burroughs Range.

awesome light hike with a very rewarding view at the fire tower and the overlook just past the fire tower. not to mention the hotel ruins which are very very cool! Bathrooms are at the top as well

Great hike went with a few friends and my pup everyone loved it! Took a dip at the waterfall! Easy trail

got a little lost trying to go to talman seat first instead of just following the trail. fox path was flooded but it gave me a small little rock scramble to do. ended up doing 7miles before my phone died..so most likely a 9mile hike because we went through all the trails exploring. loved the lemon squeeze..at first I thought it was going to be short but it ended up being a good size with beautiful views up top. not hard at all in my opinion and even out of shape people could do it (in my opinion) I workout and hike often, however my husband doesn't and he did great! we started in pouring rain and finally it stopped which was awesome to get good views up top

Amazing waterfall and great views! Nice place to cool of in the summertime.

Started early to avoid the heat .... nice and shady walk. Great view from the Giant Ledge ... came across a baby snake on the way down ... brilliant day!

The best hike I've found so far within a reasonable driving distance of NYC.

My favorite hike. Uphill 99% of the way. Great ruins to explore, the view from the scenic overlook is amazing. The fire tower is not to be missed .
a lot of the trail is washed out from all of the rain this year, but still ok to hike.
Dog friendly. Lots of dogs on the trail.

Meilleur hike que j’ai fais jusqu’à présent ! La vue était incroyable. 4h allez/retour avec les pauses et le dîner au sommet. Je le recommande

It is simply the best hike I have taken. The views are astonishing. Highly recommended.

Nice views and a cool swimming hole between two waterfalls!

Started by the parking lot of North Lake and took the loop trail to Artist's Rock, Sunset Rock, Newman's Ledge, North Point and Ashley Falls. We stopped several times for photos which tacked on an hour or two to our hike. My phone died on the way out so our recording is incomplete. We started out at 11am and it was extremely foggy. I actually didn't realize I parked next to the lake until we came down. it was so foggy I didn't see it or the signs. The first two look outs were all fog so not much to see. By the time we got to Newman's Ledge, the fog cleared and the view was gorgeous. Don't forget the bug spray. The mosquitoes were ruthless. The trail itself, aside from the look outs was beautiful. I never grew bored of the landscape. Beautiful trees, rock formations and different kinds of mushrooms throughout. I would do this trail again but would be better prepared next time.

This was such a fun hike. Very rewarding views at Giant's Ledge and a really helpful NYNJ Trail Conference steward up there. If you continue up to Panther Mountain, you get even more of a workout but you also get that perfect alpine smell.

Spectacular views!

Awesome hike! North Point was in clouds when I went, so Newman's Ledge packed a huge punch - such an amazing view!! Will definitely be doing it again soon.

Great hike, but busy paths. Several vistas make the incline worth the effort.

this is totally mislabeled "easy" because there is steep climbing and scrambling on rocks involved. It's short but not for everyone.
