Hiked this trail this morning in boots on a solid snowpack. The trail was well defined after a plenty of hikers went through. It is steep in the first section, but short. It then opens up to a large flat area. Absolutely beautiful winter vistas and frozen Aspen groves.

Not the hike we expected. "Best used" through October is more than a suggestion. Once Brighton resort is open for the season, hikers need to take the "uphill route" on Milly Access / Lost Maid and then exit the Wren Hollow gate to out of bounds. We looped around Dog Lake and made it up to the overlook of Lake Mary. Didn't have any backcountry gear/beacons and definitely would have wanted them if we were to go any farther towards Lake Catherine.

Amazing everything with this one. It's steep at parts but worth every bit.

Had to turn back because one of our group from Arizona started getting altitude sickness and asthma.

Great trail. First time doing this one and the view from the top is gorgeous. No need for snowshoes or spikes on this day. Trails are a little narrow with some steep drop offs on some parts. Views on the trail are gorgeous too.

December 11th...snow packed trail. Fun hike and super peaceful with all the snow. Didn’t even use my snowtrax.

Great trail. It's well-worn in the snow and you should only need microspikes unless you're going up right after a storm. Wonderful views of the canyon and valley all in one hike.

Saw 2 moose on trail on way back down from Blanche at 8:45am. One got a little aggressive and charged a hiker coming up the trail, but did not make contact. Whoa! Heads up!

Amazing hike into the Pfeifforhorn Cirque area!

Got the opportunity to bust out the snowshoes!

Was very tempted to try for Pfeiff, but another day perhaps ...

Skinned up to desolations and skied Powder Park. Snow was phenomenal up top. The further down you went the crustier it was. Beautiful trail, quite a bit of snow up there.

Beautiful day on trail in the snow, handful of hikers. Spotted moose off trail, took nice photo. Hikers I bumped into reported 3 moose on trail and said a bull acted aggressive. Turned around .5 mile from top (not interested in bumping into aggressive bull so turned bag. Wore Salomon Speedcross GTX with gaiters and tights, was enough, brought poles. Did not need Microspikes, no ice, just new snow coming down today. Enjoy!

I had intentions to go all the way up this morning but couldn’t brave the storm. Made it to the living room and continued the loop back down. It’s a really steep incline but worth all the accomplished feelings. Beautiful views and snow covered land. Cleats are a must this time of year.

Amazing views from the Top, you can return via the trail to the north and turn this hike into a loop

Great hike with amazing views! Went today and the trail was snow covered with patches of ice so cleats are recommended. We were fortunate to see a moose as well.. highly recommended hike!

We started the hike from Terrace picnic area and ended near the Pipeline/Mt Aire trailhead. The gate to the road leading up to picnic area was closed due to snow so we had to hike extra half mile to get to the trailhead. Trail was fully covered in fresh powdered snow and we were the only ones hiking throughout. It was snowing almost the entire time we hiked. There aren’t major views but it opens up few times - the snowfall made the visibility of the valley low but made the scenery really pretty. Be careful, there were multiple trees uprooted on the trail towards last mile. It’s not 4.4 miles out and back as mentioned, I recorded 3 miles point to point.

If anyone sees a leatherman in a case, my sister dropped hers (custom made 18 yrs ago) and would love it back if someone picks it up.

I did this hike on Nov 16th, and chose a day that the weather would be pleasant. I recommend bringing sunglasses or a hat because the trail goes southeast the whole way and the sun was right in our eyes. It was a beautiful day, icy but sunny. It was pretty slick on the way down with the hard packed snow, so be sure to have good treads on your boots. If you are with amateurs like I was, I would definitely go early in the day. It will take over 4 hours to go down and back, especially if you want to sit for a while and enjoy the sunshine on the smooth cool-looking rocks up top, overlooking the lake. Once we were out of the sun, it was quite cold so gloves and a hat were nice. We went later in the season, so we only met a couple other hikers along the way. We did come across some deer up close, darting across the trail.

I have probably done this trail 10 times. It is so easy for me to get to from my house and is the perfect distance if you only want to go out for 4 hours.

I used this trail as a training hike for a high-altitude hike in California, and it worked beautifully. I have done it in the warmth of summer and the light snow of late autumn to test my winter hiking gear.

This is a great into hike to the fabulous hikes of Little Cottonwood Canyon with amazing views and an awesome lake to have lunch at before heading back down.

I just moved here fro Oklahoma. This is a great short hike to start reaclimating to the altitude. First .5 miles is rough but the rest is amazing. Would like to see the trails marked better. I got lost but it was easy to get back.

I hiked this on Tuesday. The trail was quite muddy and slick. The lake is frozen and covered in snow. Beautiful little rainbows reflecting in the snowflakes. I passed 5 people on the trail. It took me 3.25 hours.

I got plastered by artificial snow makers trying to find the trailhead by the Brighton Ski resort, but once found it was a great hike! It was fairly quick, even with the snowfall on the ground. I loved skipping rocks on the frozen lake and hearing those cool Star Wars noises.

Great hike. Started to snow on the way up and was really slick coming back down. Would suggest micro spikes for the downhill. Beautiful trail, Lake was frozen but still worth it.

Thanks to the person who originally mapped this trail. Really good hike. Make sure to complete it clockwise. Hard but good. The trails up to the ridge line and along it aren’t very well marked, but worth the scramble. Took us about 2.5 hrs.

Nice short hike with beautiful views of the canyon walls.

Excellent hike this morning. Predawn start to catch the sunrise from the top. Fresh layer of snow 1-2inches. The streams are frozen over enough to support my 200+lbs. Didn’t attempt the lake although it looked pretty thick. Plenty of deer to be seen and some moose tracks.

Rated at 4 as i lost the trail both up and down and there was a decent amount of bush-whacking/scrambling. Only one area where it was slippery enough to use spikes going up today, about 20 or so feet. 2 hours up.

Sunny. No material wind. Microspikes not needed today. Only a few brief slick areas on trail. Started at 11:20am, 37 degrees at S curve. Parking lot closed for season. Wore tank, baseball cap, wool gloves and tights. Didn’t use wind breaker, could have gone with shorts, would still suggest gloves for top. Took me 1:15 from trail head to top, if you’re somewhere in that range or faster would highly recommend shorts. Enjoy!

Beautiful views almost the entire time! It was a gradual incline until the last mile before the lake, but still
totally doable. Sadly .5 miles to the lake the snow pack dies out and you would need snow shoes to get through the final section so we had to turn around. Bummer, but the views up to that point were awesome.

Great hike!! Very beautiful scenery, especially at the top. Took about 2hrs to reach the top, moving at a quicker pace. The trail is a steady incline, and very rarely levels out. May prove difficult to someone unaccustomed to physical activity, but certainly doable. Some small ice patches, but not enough for crampons yet. Would definitely recommend grippy shoes/boots and some trekking poles.
