Hiked here on a gorgeous September morning. Top tip - even in September, arrive early. Just after 8 we had the boardwalk to ourselves to watch the porpoises and pilot whales have breakfast. Bring your binoculars!

We went from the Jack Pine parking lot south end and got great rock views pretty much right away, including a neat cove with whirlpool like waves. Later you join up with the Coastal Trail which is wonderfully varied- long rock coast which is fun to scramble over (mostly easy but can stay on the trail); popping out of woods for neat views; crossing “cobblestone” beaches (2 somewhat long; tiring for my wife -the stones are rather big). Two km from the end you pop out at a long sandy beach leading to Neil’s Harbor in the distance. If you want less overall distance, I’d recommend turning back there, since the last two km are thru the woods with nothing to see. On the return trip it’s easy to get on one of the longer of the Jack Pine half loops and add 10-15 more minutes, but it wasn’t bad (thru the forest with interpretive signs). Best Cape Breton hike of our trip.

This was a beautiful hike with stunning views. All uphill if you keep to the left. If you go right, it’s easier going but you will punish your knees on the decent. If you’re an occasional hiker this trail isn’t for you.
Again, loved every step.
Note. Trail ended up at 10.9km all said and done.
Loved it!

Easy trek. Beautiful views. Unable to get to the very end due to high winds. Loved every step.

Spectacular cliff views at the top with the option to descend further. Gnarled bush and thick forest at beginning of hike provide some adventure in navigating fallen obstacles. Not a single other person encountered. Great hike.

Beautiful, I would definately do it again. The horses at the end of it make it all worthwhile. If you are choosing to share food with them, be prepared to be surrounded by them all lol.... we went in and out in one day, 3 hours in and about 2.5 back....

This is a walking trail, not hiking. It’s a beautiful walk. GO EARLY! Gets very crowded. We were there by 8:00 and there were only 3 other cars. When we finished at 10:30 the parking lot was full. Please pick your trash up, especially cigarette butts! Gees!!

A great trail! We started up on the western trail, which is a little steeper. But completely doable. Of course we saw tons of other hikers, but we had a number of nice chats when we stopped to rest, usually at the scenic overlooks. We were able to see all the destruction caused by the moose, as well as the very different areas of the forrest. We very much enjoyed the views of the coast, and the stroll along the creek.

Short hike to an absolutely stunning overlook!

The beginning is a typical woodland trail through pine trees but once you are out on the barren outcropping the views are majestic over Aspy Bay and the coast to the south. The only reason I am not giving this hike a 5 star rating is that the White Point hike about 30 minutes south of here is just fantastic and not to be missed.

Wow!! The views from the ridge are amazing! Getting there is a bit of a challenge - dirt road for the last few miles. Well worth it though!

Loved the diversity of this trail! Nice climb with beautiful views on the way up, and a beautiful brook side walk on the way down. Loved the moss-covered rocks in the brook. So peaceful!

Beautiful! Great loop. Love the board walk down.

unbelievable

Amazing! Sad to see visitors trespassing on the areas clearly marked as no go zones. Pleased to see authorities tracking down violators. Remember it’s not all about you, it’s about appreciating and preserving nature.

Unfortunately we saw no moose, but it was a great quiet beautiful spot early in the morning.

Really enjoyed this trail, very easy hike with amazing views at the end! The trail itself was relatively well marked and very easy to follow. I began my hike around noon on a Saturday in peak tourist season and had the trail all to myself. Definitely worth the slight detour off the Cabot Trail - I would highly recommend to everybody!

This is one of the top trails we have hiked. Rated a 5 star from us. Do not miss this trail. If you are looking to do a trail in norther Cape Breton hike this one for sure. A rough road to get there but well worth the drive. •••••

The fork was open to both directions on Monday morning and was able to do the loop. Saw a mother and baby moose about a km into the walk, roughly 100 feet from the trail, and another larger female moose on the way back to the lot from the Skyline look-off - she was much closer, maybe 20 feet from the boardwalk. Amazing trail, and relatively easy - I’d call it a walking trail as opposed to a hiking one. Very well groomed and wide.

An amazing view! A bit scary with the exposure of the drop off and ocean. Just spectacular! A great bowl of chowder and beer from the Chowder Hut!

The loop is closed but u can still hike the trail. I feel this trail is a bit overrated. I can see better sunset at various locations in Chéticamp area without having to walk ie drive up and watch.

Take a left when u ascend. This section of the trail is gravel and dirt with benches along the way and a number of excellent look out points. The last two look outs have the best view of Chéticamp village and the Island. U can choose to go back down the same way or do the loop. If u do the loop, be mindful the conditions of the interior trail is rocky and many sections also muddy because it runs along a brook. U will see a number of small waterfalls. We saw a large black bear on our way up. He was on the trail and we observed him from a distance and waited for him to move out before continued.

Easy hike. Trail may be muddy. The lake is beautiful. Did this trail at sunrise. It was beautiful. Lots of signs of moose, but no moose.
