HikingGreat!

This may have become my favorite hiking trail I’ve done so far. So much variety to the landscape and trail you’re on. Done in about 5.5hrs, but allocate as much time as you want to make random stops and enjoy what the trail has to offer.

the ranger suggested this hike to us so we went in not knowing much. we did the loop clockwise and it took about 5.5 hours. didn't see a single soul on the trail and we know why! it's a hard one! but incredible. you live a thousand lives in this hike. canyon views, canyon floor hiking, rock climbing (literally). we were exhausted at the end but had a great day. trail was very well marked and we only had a slight problem at the end but we could see the road by then. if you want a solid day hike with some technical fun that's not *too* scary -- this is it!

Like mentioned, keep on eye out for the rock stacks to stick to the trail, you can easily lose it in the rock fields

HikingGreat!

did this hike today as mapped out except in the opposite direction, hitting the joint and chesler Park loop first before going down to druid Arch. and I'm glad I did it that way because druid Arch was an amazing climax to the hike. I chilled there for 45 minutes or so enjoying the complete silence and the towering arch. My favorite section of the hike was cutting from the campgrounds over to the druid Arch trail fork. just a lot of fun stuff to climb over at that point. I was really feeling the nearly 17 miles by the time I got back to the elephant Hill trailhead.

I'd say 1/3rd of this hike is very enjoyable, making the other 2/3rds worth it. However, with limited time I'd rather have done 2 or 3 hikes in Canyolands than spent my entire day hiking just this one. I strongly recommend going counter clockwise, and cheating towards upheaval dome at the very end for a great view. Also, there are some incredible scrambles near the waterfall (last 1/4th going counterclockwise).

Great!No shade

The hike to the Joint trail along the loop was standard Utah, meaning very good. However, the Joint was outstanding. If you explore off-trail a bit, it outshines many other slot trails because of how many interwoven slots there are. I spent an hour just exploring all the slots and caves (bring a headlamp). Nothing technical required, but it's easy to get lost in the many slots. I cut up through the interwoven slots in the Joint area straight to Devils Kitchen, and I'm very grateful that I did. It blew me away over and over. I'd camp here just to explore again.

This was honestly one of the most enjoyable trails I've ever hiked. Lots of variety in climbing boulders and rock faces as well as amazing rock formations and hoodoos to look at, you feel like you crash landed on an alien planet. Highs in the upper 30s today, with some light snowfall here and there. Some sections of the trail had snow and ice but nothing too severe. I was able to complete the trail without microspikes. One word of advice: ditch the trekking poles, you will need full use of your hands in climbing boulders and rock faces, as well as maintaining three points of contact while descending. That being said, there was nothing extremely difficult (provided you keep an eye on the cairns and stick to the trail). Completed in about 5 hours. Also, the dirt road leading to the trailhead is in good condition, hard packed dirt I was able to drive in my 2WD sedan with ease.

The track file for this trail doesn't depict it accurately. That are much more switchbacks along the mouth of the canyon. Actually the Alltrails map layer shows it better most of the time. That said, there are plenty of cairns to help you out on the switchbacks and other parts of the trail so you don't get lost. I do like the idea of making a loop out of this trail by going in and out of the bottom canyon, however I did not do this due to time as it looked like being in the canyon would be a bit harder. This is a spectacular hike; you won't think so at first but that quickly changes!

Just the Joint section of this trail is worth exploring for a few extra hours. There are so many offshoot slots that you can just wander around. Truly breathtaking. The hike to/from the Joint is fine but the length is only worth it because of the Joint.

Awesome trail. It was raining so the ranger recommended we do the loop to avoid more likely flash floods at Druid. We were not disappointed. Beautiful and varied views made for a fantastic hike. 100% recommend

Took the (closed) 4WD track to Devil’s Kitchen. Camped overnight and trekked back via the hiking path. Beautiful. The track easy to follow- concrete fillings poured in some spots gave you a clue. On the path, cairns well marked where to go. Also, dead logs and tree limbs indicated where NOT to go. The campsite at Devils Kitchen was one of the highlights of our trip. A grotto sheltered from the wind- the only sound was your own breathing. Except at one point we heard a breathing, panting, sound at the edge of our tent. Showed tracks to a park worker who identified as a bobcat. The grotto is enclosed and sandy. Perfect to pitch a tent. The sky- a trillion stars. Haven’t seen so many in decades. There are modern outhouses available. Wide open rock in the sun and a picnic table and other rocks to put packs in the grotto. What a fantastic place!

Hell of a trail, whooped my butt for the incline but so worth it! For the climb, I brought clip ons for my boots for peace of mind.

Only went out and back because of snow and road closures that pushed my start too late in the day. If hiking in snow, I recommend at least one trekking pole and micro spikes for the switchback descent. Absolutely beautiful hike!

Gorgeous hike. We hiked it after a full day of snow and still found it relatively easy and no need to wear spikes. There are many intersecting trails so make sure your phone is fully charged and bring a map. We had to rescue a man that had been lost for 3 days and was in bad shape. We found it on the Joint trail section, which is the most remote of the whole loop. We contacted 911 and the person was helicoptered out to safety. I would certainly do it again.

Absolutely would do again. Next time, I would camp at one of those spots in Chesler Park itself so I could spend the entire next day exploring the many offshoots of the Joint trail and the devil’s garden area. I could spend a couple days here. Took me about 7 hours with lots of extra exploring. It can be done in 5-6 hours without that. Got to the parking lot in a low-clearance 2WD just fine, no snow on the road mid-January.

This trail is for experienced hikers. Ran out of time to get into the crater but was totally worth it. Made it to the gate to hell in 50 minutes. Nice view down. No problem following the trail in winter but might be harder in summer. Only recorded the way out. Lots of cat scat and prints. If you like rugged terrain this is the trail for you. Leave mom at home.
