Great little hike close to town.

Currently the trails around both lakes are still closed at the top due to road construction above, but it's still a worthy short climb for a great view.

'Easy' and 'More Difficult' routes are clearly marked. Choose more difficult for a hiking trail that comes to a beautiful waterfall. Trail is currently clear of ice/snow.

Easy is a wider, all-gravel path. Ice for the top 1/3 of the trail, but nothing too worrisome if you're careful.

Great little hike...slippery at the top with hard packed snow...beautiful scenery...recommend taking more difficult way up and road down... would go again.

This is a very difficult climb due to the steepness the whole way, but stunning views make it a pleasurable challenge. The trail was slippery and muddy on the top half which made descending difficult, so I'd recommend going when the weather has been dry. (I went on a warm day when melting snow made things slick).
It took me 2 hours to hike from the parking lot to the platform, stopping along the way only long enough to swig water and keep going. The way back down wasn't much faster (1 hr 45 min) due to the steep descent, mud/ice, and tricky footing. If I go again, I'd bring a lunch and take my time more. Today I just brought water. Altogether : beautiful views and a killer workout, just pick a dry day!

I was here yesterday before sunrise. Unfortunately the bridge was blocked off with closure signs. I thought it was opened up again for winter, I guess they have more work to do? the trail head was closed at the time I went.

Great Hike! Just did it on Sunday, October 14th; there was lots of snow and it was a fun workout. We got to the glacier; we were the only people doing the hike so the snow was fresh and the views were amazing. We hiked the flat part and going up the mountain and then snowshoed for a couple of hours to the glacier.

Did this hike today. Spikes and poles recommended for sure. There was alot of muddy and icy sections. this hike goes straight up to the top with no easy sections. We did make it to the top and the views were beautiful. You overlook Canmore and the surrounding mountain peaks. It took us half a day with lots of stops for rest and photo taking. The way down was very hard on the legs, and toes for us. Needless to say, I am not in superb shape and am no athlete- this hike is hard for sure but I recommend for the challenge and scenery. Don't forget to pack a lunch for the top and take it all in. Good luck :)

This is an easy hike and has beautiful Scenery, but disappointing. The trail just end and seem very Anticlimactic. At the end you can hear a waterfall that is just out of view, unless you are adventuresome and crawl up the creek on logs and rocks. I do love the views of Heart Mountain and the beauty in the canyon. Have done this hike twice once in the spring and now in the fall. The trail was snow covered and becoming icy.

So convenient from Canmore, but a respectable hike. Great views without all that much effort. The "more difficult" trail could be pretty dicey if there's ice.

Great trail, minor scramble at the top. But windy and chilly. Amazing views.

Trail closure extended for the winter season 2018/19. The early snowfall and smoke this year delayed the new trail alignment so it will be completed in spring 2019 then reopened!

Great first hike heading into Banff. Beautiful views and waterfall was amazing too.

Went Oct 8 and there is 2 feet of snow. Only made it to the waterfall and lost the trail several times. Done for the season but did this in the summer and it's well worth it.

Easy hike but we had spikes and we were happy we did as many people were slipping on the way down. Second lake is closed but it’s still worth seeing the first. A good hike to start with!

I really wanted to check out this bunker without the massive amount of ppl. Therefore a good friend and I decided to go during the week after the big snow fall we had. It was beautiful! Lots of deep snow and not a single person except us. Really enjoyed it!

Beautiful wide open off-leash dog park in the mountains. There are multiple trails that take you around the lake that allow dogs. However, the picnic table area closest to the lake does not allow dogs. The lake itself is gorgeous and picturesque! Definitely worth the trek. It’s a relatively easy terrain even in the snow.

Recommend the “more difficult” trail, if you like to see a wonderful village view and a surprisingly pleasant fall which is surrounded by snow. The “More difficult” option is not difficult at all, but you may want to use something like crampons for the snow season just to prevent slips.

Too bad the actual lakes were closed but easy hike with great view of the valley! Agree to do the difficult trail up! There's lots of running water streams so be careful.

The trail head was not marked so thankfully we asked another hiker and were directed the right way early on as multiple trails use this trailhead. Head to the left side of the creek to find the single track trail. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear, especially if the trail is damp or has a bit of snow. We finished it in under 3 hours with work to the helipad and back. It was an incredible climb, taxing on the quads and calves, but with lots of great views of Canmore.

Great hike, a bit slippery when wet (lots of rock stairs toward the end of the "difficult" side of the trail). The difficult side is not really too difficult unless you are carrying toddlers in your arms....
The actual lakes are currently fenced off and closed, so don't expect to be able to walk around them. But you do get great views of the valley and the waterfall from the top.

Was still closed yesterday. Sign at trail head said closed until early October for trail maintenance. A local said next week for scheduled reopening... not 100% sure if they are planning to reopen on schedule? Anybody know?

I don't mind admitting this was over my comfort level and physical fitness level. Got to the helipad but the trail is rated hard for a reason so do be mindful of that and be more concious of you abilities than I was. Views are amazing and the trail is easy to find all the way up. I'm going to love that I made it all the way up in a few days when my physical pain goes away! And yes, I'm a bit newbie to mountain hiking and not in top top shape... this is true! So just a heads up for others like me who want to attempt this... maybe you might want to do a few more moderate rated hikes in the mountains before doing this one. I'm from flat place in Ontario and i can do trails rated hard all day long in my area. but the rating system is so much different here in the mountains!

Was cool to see the bunker, but we could always here traffic from the Trans Canada highway from all parts of the trail. Decent quick walk in the morning, but not nearly as spectacular as so many other trails in the area.

Is this trail still closed? We are planning to go October 10. Would it be open by then?

fun for the whole family! easy and pretty!

Have done this hike about four times due to easy access and a well marked trail. Always bustling with tourists, so if you want a good seat at the summit either go very early or pop over to miners peak instead.

Sept 20- still closed :(

Excellent hike. A little more strenuous than we had anticipated. Not overly difficult, but be prepared for traversing a bit of water. It does get crowded. Definitely take the "harder" route; otherwise, it would be really boring.

Nice short easy walk. It was the first mountain walk I’ve taken my dog on and the first mountain walk I’ve done solo. Not a super busy path, although there were others around which was comforting but I also did it end of September. Great for a easy walk close to the city!

As others have said take the harder route up and the gravel road down. It’s much more scenic; the gravel road does not offer much at all in terms of views and is rather boring. Overall really enjoyed this hike and will definitely do it again!
