Bead Lakes is a 4 km loop trail along Highway 10 in Riding Mountain and is a gorgeous place for a hike.

I hiked the trail in the fall which made for a beautiful setting with the changing colours of the leaves. The scenery was really pretty as the trail followed through the forest and passed by a few lakes. There were great views! The trail was moderately challenging with some inclines but it was more than manageable.

I spotted lots of fresh bear scat along the trail but didn't see any bears, although be aware that they are definitely in this area.

Fantastic hike and one of my new favourites in the park!

This past summer, I hiked to Bald Hill along the J.E.T. Trail in the North Escarpment and it was an absolutely gorgeous and scenic hike with the good amount of challenge involved. The trailhead is located a 45 minute drive along Highway 19 from the Wasagaming townsite. It is rated difficult and was definitely a workout for the legs.

The trail was beautiful and passed through forest and along the edge of the valley with gorgeous views of the escarpment along the way. There were lots of ups and downs, with some steeper inclines, but it was not quite as strenuous and difficult as I was expecting.

You will eventually arrive at a junction in the trail, with a sign. Someone has scratched Bald Hill on the sign with an arrow pointing straight ahead. Follow straight ahead for about 7 minutes and you will find yourself climbing onto the narrow and rocky ridge at the Bald Hill Lookout. Although it is not an official trail, don't let that deter you. The trail is easy to find and follow. The hill is literally bald - it is just rocks and nothing else, with very steep edges. The rocks are flat and slippery and the ridge is narrow, so be careful how close you get to the edge. The views of the surrounding hills, valleys and forests were absolutely stunning from the top of Bald Hill!

You hike back to the trailhead along the same path. It took me around 4 hours to complete the round trip hike and in total, it is around 11 km.

I would recommend this hike for those looking for scenic views and a good challenge. Wear proper hiking boots/shoes and long pants, as there is some poison ivy along some parts of the trail.

I did this hike for my first time at the end of October and it was absolutely beautiful! I couldn’t believe I hadn’t ventured to this area of the Whiteshell before, but this hike is definitely a new addition to my list of favourite hikes in Manitoba!

The first part of the hike to the Pine Point Rapids was flat and easy, along a wide path. There was a fork in the trail where you could continue on the wide path for 2.4 km to the rapids or take the self-guiding trail for 2.7 km, which follows along a narrower path along the river. I chose the 2.4 km trail but heard that the self-guiding and slightly longer path was beautiful as well, so I would definitely check this one out next time. The first set of rapids were pretty and there were lots of large flat rocks to get some good photos and views of them. There were firepits and picnic tables on the large rocks as well.

I then opted to do the additional 2.8 km loop which I would highly recommend. The hike led to two other small falls/rapids and it was very scenic with gorgeous views at various points along the way. This section was slightly more challenging than the first part of the hike, as the trail led over a rocky landscape and through the forest, with some ups and downs to maneuver. It was much less busy on this section and made for a peaceful atmosphere. In total, the hike was around 8 km if you include the loop at the end.

I absolutely loved this hike and will definitely be back to hike it in the summer! Would highly recommend this one in the Whiteshell.

A great hike with a lot of different terrain that keeps you interested all the way. We had cold north winds...snowy sections...warmer sunny stretches...we had all 4 seasons. . Awesome day!

Great trail for a fall day. Interesting terrain, ups and downs over rocks and roots, well marked. On the first fork 10 minutes in, go right for the pretty trail; stay left if you prefer more of a road. Took about 45 minutes to first sets of rapids, an hour to add on loop which has 2 more waterfalls. So pretty! All done in under 3 hours. Great day hike from Winnipeg.

The north side trail is nice, easy and a bit shorter in comparison to the other trail which offers more of a scenic route since it goes along the river. Make sure you bring bug spray for this one.. especially for the loop by the rapids.

official entrance and trail is closed until Oct 1, 2018. It appears to be a movie set on the east side. We went past the main entrance heading west and walked the upper rim looking down into canyon and found a path down into the canyon. Was a cloudy day, a bit muddy from earlier rain but much nicer while in the canyon, better colors and visualization of the striated canyon walls and erosion.

Easy trail that’s not too far from the city. I recommend combining this trail with others in the area for a decent day trip from Winnipeg.

trail closed today

great picnic/swim spot after the walk. terrain is suitable for bikes too.

Easy trail. Take the self guiding option as the gravel walkway was really boring. Rewarding rapids at the end of the trail. I’m deducting a star because it was so busy! Tons of people on this trail so be prepared to encounter lots of people!

Amazing scenery, will definitely be going back! No shade and it’s hot! Bring a hat, lots of water and watch where you step if you go deep into the canyon, seen a few snakes.

Not actual caves, but unique rock formations. Fun and easy trail with a beautiful look out spot at the top. Great for adults, teens, young kids. A few high points with deep crevices and so keep young ones close by.

It is an interesting place to hike around in from a history point of view. Just knowing dinosaurs once roamed here is enough of an incentive to get out there. You can make it an easy hike or a hard hike depending on what you prefer. There are no trail markers so be prepared to encounter a lot of false trails. If you venture further in you will encounter some brush that is very hard on the legs but hey, what is hiking without some scars! Take lots and lots of water, snacks and sunscreen if you are going farther than the beginning of the valley floor. Overall a great place to explore.

loved Pine Point Rapids! you can hike to the rapids, you have the option to do the entire loop, we did it. didnt take us too long to finish the entire trail. you get to see 2 other rapids/little falls along that trail that are very nice, loved the rock switchback. our dogs adored this trail!

very nice hike, we started at the top and made our way down, still a bit of hiking up hill so you arent always going downhill. some pretty steep climbs and steep steps downhill so good footwear is definitely recommended; we saw a few fresh bear droppings but no bears. great views!

The Gorge is a gorgeous hike! Took 2 of us 2:40hr top to bottom then bottom to top in a rain storm which was invigorating :) I forgot how many stairs there were... lots, I won’t forget now. Awesome workout, gorgeous views. This still remains one of my favorites in RMNP. Hope to trail run next time! Ps this was 3 wks ago.

Great Hike. It’s 2.9 km but if you loop around and go up and down the formations it takes up the better part of a day. We spent 5 hours but we entered on the east side past the old parking lot. Also there’s a brand new campground across the road.

my family and I recently did this trail including the extra 2.8 km loop. I'd probably rate this trail between easy and moderate. the self guided path of this hike is very scenic and has great rock plains, the path itself is marked well. the extra loop part of the trail is considerably more difficult than the pine point loop, it has a bit of incline and decline. if I were to do this again I would definitely take the self guided trail back to the parking lot from the Rapids as the gravel path is a bit boring to look at but it's great they made the Rapids accessible for everyone to enjoy. I would do this hike again, and also make sure to bring bug spray and a hat as there were these bugs buzzing around our heads and landing on them the whole hike, rather annoying. all in all a very nice hike

Nice hike. My parents really enjoyed it. Not too busy so that was nice.

great walk, stick to the east trail between the parking lot and first set of rapids for a more scenic path. trail is well marked and only a small amount of deadfall.

Wet trail, muddy in some parts due to rain so trail was slick. Very scenic, moderately easy hike.
