Not too tough of a trail. the switchbacks make it less steep. the view from the summit was well worth it. bugs at summit..ouch.

The trailhead has a good sized parking lot that seemed to fill up quickly in the morning. The trail begins at a pretty steady incline and leads to a mainly rocky section not too far into the hike. Very rocky but nothing too steep for most of the initial hike to Mt. Osceola. Bug spray was definitely necessary as well. The trail crashes right into the cliff ahead at the summit and provides great views! The geological survey marker is not easily found, but is located to the left side of the ledge near the tree line. The hike down to East Osceola is a very steep descend, I would recommend going around the chimney on the way down and hitting it when making your way back up to Mt. Osceola. Glad I brought layers, wind was whipping when out of the treeline. All around good hike. Could have planned it for a clearer day but the fog seems to roll out when the sun came up. Would definitely do it again.

7/01/19 The plan was to night hike Osceola, catch the sunrise and then bag East peak. We started off at 145 am on a crystal clear night with a slight breeze. No moon gave us a clear look at the stars. Unfortunately the mountains had other plans for us. Around 230 temps dropped approx 15 degrees, wind gust of 30 mph and fog with about 20 ft of visibility. The trail was wet with all the recent rain but the few muddy spots didn't slow us down. We reached the summit in 1 hr 45 min. Breakfast and coffee and off to east peak hoping we would have views on the return (we did). Trail over to East Osceola was steeper but nothing too difficult and we found the chimney to be over rated. 10/48

Overall a moderate hike. We did Osceola and Osceola East. East was amazing and stunning - definitely worth the scramble up to the top! Highly recommend.

My first 4k. went up on a sunday (no fee that day) Started at 230pm got to summit at 5pm. According to the White Mountains Hiking guide that's roughly how long it should take & I definitely took my time! It's VERY rocky all the way up! For a first 4k hike it was rough lol I did almost turn around at one point but I was so close to the summit I couldn't do it and just kept going. I probably stopped 10 times? The way down was much easier. 1.5hrs down. left summit at 6pm. Didnt stop once except for when I took a digger! Those flat slate looking wet rocks are slippery so be very careful! View is worth every second!

This was our third and fourth 4k in the prosses of getting all the NH ones done. Loved this Hike! The views were breathtaking, and the hike was no joke! Fun but not easy! We went up from the Kanc to East Oceola first and then Summited Oceola. Was going to bring the Dog and then decided against it, which was a good idea, as I'm not sure how we would have gotten the 80-pound golden retriever through the Chimney. The Chimney is during the ridge between East Oceola and Oceola, so if you are just going to do one I would absolutely bring the dog, or if you can easily carry your dog then bring them. After summiting Oceola, we turned back and retraced our steps down east Oceola instead of going down to Tripoli Road. This hike is steep but very fun, a very good workout. It took up about five and a half hours to summit both and retrace our steps back, with about 45 minutes for lunch and other brakes! Happy Trails!

I love this hike, it’s one of my favorites. But the elevation listed is false, it’s actually 4,340ft from the Tripoli Road trailhead. It’s a steady, very easy incline all the way to the summit and isn’t very rocky. The summit is beautiful but not very spacious. I’d suggest going early to avoid crowds.

Parked ( $5 ) at Tripoli Road early and enjoyed a quiet hike to the top of Osceola. I'd rate this section as 'moderate' ; Trail has been well maintained, it is very obvious, and there are no points where I remember particularly high steps or requiring hands. You are rewarded by excellent views at the top. From Osceola to East Osceola is more technically challenging with steep sections and of course ' the chimney' requiring all points on. While short, these sections make this portion more difficult. Muddy in places near the top. Retraced my steps and returned the same way, back to Tripoli road, now with considerable uphill traffic. Bugs were hungry and you did not want to stand still for long.

Mcuh harder then expected and markings are not great. Very tough.

You can also access the trailhead from the Kancamagus Highway West of Lincoln. It is at that point the Greely Ponds Trailhead. Follow the trail to where it forks to the right. Fork left and it takes you to the ponds. Good day hike even when it is raining, which it usually is.

on Mount Osceola Trail

Went up on 3.16.19 on snowshoes. Temp at trail head 32F. Gradual incline via Greeley Pond, then sharp incline up to East Osceola, after which summitting Osceola felt like a breeze. Clear starting out, thick base of snow of about 4ft, light snow falling as little round grain-sized beads, which settle on the branches of the fur trees like some kind of Christmas trim. Cloudy towards the top; thicker, wind-slanted snowfall. Brother turned to me and said, “It might as well be Narnia.”

Went up and back from 112 on the north (Greeley Pond trail to Osceola trail to Mount Osceola summit and back). Went on Sunday Oct 11. Cold and clear day, and 6 to 12 inches of hard pack on the trail. Definitely needed spikes. Hard climb but well worth it. Took 5.5 rountrip with plenty of stops.

Nice hike after a 5 hr drive from NY. THe chimney/by pass was nowhere near as hard as I expected. Definitely need traction now and about a foot of snow above 3k feet. Some nice views. Would rate this as moderate.
