This is one hike I always recommend to someone going to Colorado. Stunning view at the top!

Nice short hike over packed snow. Watched a cow and calf moose wade the edge of the lake about 150 yds away while we ate some lunch.

Went out along the trail and then went into the wilderness. I climbed the mountain and then returned along the mountain top. Perfect hike if you want solitude.

Our 7 and almost 4 year old had fun on this hike! The lake is a great place to play, have a few snacks and take in the scenery!

Enjoyed a great hike with our dog today! Started the trail about 9:45am and didn’t see many others on our way up. It was super windy on the saddle so we didn’t commit to seeing the trail’s end point on the ridge but tucked into a rock cropping to snack and admire the views. Busier on our way down at noon - didn’t get to see any animals since there were many people, including some hunters, on the trail. Highly recommend this hike - it’s relatively steep on the way up but there’s great shade as you’re going thru the forest most of the way. Views for the last section are totally worth it!

Mildly steep, quick ascending trail. Totally beautiful reward arriving at Lake Agnes. All by ourselves, no one out there but us. Monday 6a start time.

Beautiful, short hike with some short areas of heavy climbing. We parked at the winter lot because that is where the GPS directed us, and walked up the road. I think it's about 2-1/2 miles roundtrip when parking from this lower lot,

Very nice day hike with beautiful views. Since we are from the Midwest the elevation caught up to us a couple times but it was worth every second!

beautiful trail and view. Well maintained.

All in all, it took us 6.5 hours to get to the lake. However, we did not loop back and instead went on to Clark's Peak. I enjoyed it, although I hiked almost the whole way in complete darkness. Although we didn't really get to see the beauty of the hike, we did get to go to an outlook and see the Perseids. In addition, the lake was beautiful at 6:30 AM, there was no one around, and we got to see a moose!

Short hike but if u move quickly it is a good workout. Lake was quiet, no wildlife making an intro.

The wildflowers are out right now and they are so beautiful!

The hike to the lake doesn’t have many views as it’s through the thick forest, but the views at the lake were beautiful and definitely worth it! We did see a moose, doggos got to tromp in a few inches of the lake and the area is very relaxing. We got there about 8:30am and only saw one other group until we began our descent.

Easy climb up to a pretty lake with an island in the middle. Lots of fisherman. Saw multiple moose around the surrounding areas and roads. Can pick up American lakes from this trail too.

Great little hike with rewarding views!

Pretty like hike up and old road off the main scenic drive. We stopped on our way to Walden. Saw a moose at the TH on the way back. Porta potty and plenty of parking

Lots of flowers on the hike and a cool lake at the end. In my opinion it was a 4 star hike because it was not the coolest lake and it was a long hike through the forest, with minimal views, to get there. We were also disappointed, as another reviewer pointed out, that there was no real discernable trail that actually went around the lake. To get down to the lake we had to walk down one of the rocky stream beds on the far side of the lake. First two miles of the trail are wide and very easy, the past 3 and a half are more uphill and rocky but not difficult. I carried a 3 year old and my 8 year old son had no problems either. The only real challenging part were a couple of stream crossings on some logs that were wet, from the rain that was falling, and very slippery. Carrying my daughter I actually elected to walk through the water instead of risk falling off of the first one.

Beautiful lake, the trail is in great condition! It was wonderful to see all the families on the trail.

Tons of wildflowers in late July! We were the only people on the trail. Most of the way up, there’s a sign to the bowls and to the pass. We headed up a steep incline to the bowls. Wild!

One of the most beautiful trails in Colorado! The Wild flowers were in full bloom. We came across a huge bull moose at the lake. Please keep your dogs on leash if you take them. One not very thoughtful hiker let her dog run wild at the moose and ended the enjoyment for each the moose and people.

We loved this hike. from 54 to 12 years old we all enjoyed every step, every stream crossing and especially the wild flowers. Wow! The lake was well worth the trip. Bring bug spray for the first two miles. We were hoping to see wildlife but saw none. So glad we did this hike. It is on my top 5 list!

AllTrails would not allow me to sign in, said I was too far away from the trailhead? Beautiful and inspiring. Good trail , well maintained and marked. Bring bug spray and sun screen. There is a restroom at the trail head and it is clean. Would absolutely do this one again.

Awesome little trail. Short but steep.

Started at 11am and made it to Blue Lake in 2.5 hours. This trail is through a wooded forest which provided shade and a comfortable hike. The wild flowers were the stars of this trek and when we continued beyond Blue Lake we were treated to sweeping vistas of snow capped mountains! It never gets old! We continued to West Branch trail and felt amazing after our 13 mile hike! This did require 2 vehicles parked at each trailhead.

Amazing hike! You mostly hike through lush green forest. There are many varieties of wildflowers. The hike is mostly easy, but there are a few stream crossings and mud. I suggest you bring some form of mosquito repellent. The first part of the trail was loaded with mosquitos you just have to keep moving. The lake is so beautiful and worth every mile!

Perfect short trail for beautiful views and wildflowers. Trail features switchbacks, increases steadily to the lake, and is well marked.

beautiful hike

Cute little trail with moderate incline. There is no snow on the trail. Few switch backs and most of it in the trees. The lake itself was really beautiful. I walked around it which was no easy task but well worth it. Waterfalls, flowers, little streams, it was awesome.

This was a beautiful hike! The trail has many water crossings as snow is still melting. It’s not too challenging of a trial, just long. We hiked on a Tuesday 6-27 starting at 8 AM and just about had the entire trail to ourselves. The vegetation is so green and the lake is amazing.
We lost the trail going around the lake. It would be best to just go back the way you got to the lake.

Crags Campground and the road to the trailhead are open. Snow is all gone. Make sure to bring cash. $7 day use per person and $18 for camping. Multiple switchbacks take you up to Lake Agnes. Short and fairly steep. Beautiful lake nestled at the bottom of the mountains with TONS of fishies! Saw a baby and mama moose together and then a male moose with huge antlers later on. We woke up numerous times in the night to my dog growling at moose at our campsite. They were so close to our tent that I could hear them breathing and eating grass!
Beware of fire restrictions. There were no signs posted anywhere and a cop pulled up to my campsite to tell us to put out our fire. We even spoke to a volunteer ranger earlier who said we could have fires. It was a huge bummer because we couldn't cook any of the food that we brought for dinner or breakfast. We were originally going to do the American Lakes trail (7miles) but couldn't because we were so starved!
