Bike touring

Definitely one of the greatest experiences in my life. I wouldn’t call it a trail or hike, as I had a guide and used a tuk-tuk for parts of the temple. A lot of walking nonetheless and lots of tourists. Got to see monkeys and chickens that roamed the complex. Bring lots of water and a small towel, very hot and humid.

Put this on the bucket list! Sunrise is the time to be at Angkor Wat. If you go in past the moat, you’ll see a reflection pool with usually many photographers waiting for the iconic sunrise shot. Each temple has its own fascinating characteristics and are all worth seeing. I got a 3 day pass, but would recommend the 7 if you have the time. Particularly if you’d like to avoid crowds, there are remote temples less than 100km away that are excellent. Beng Melea was a must see!

Hiking

For pure magic and splendor, this is hard to beat. The largest religious site on the planet with plenty of scrambling and education, it’s an odd juxtaposition to think about. A must see.

Too hot and dusty to walk or bike. Mostly occupied by tuk tuk or cars.
