Great hike. You need good footwear because of the uneven path and tree roots. I wouldn't hike this path with young kids.
A must-do walk when in Cairns.
Took my 6yo and 4yo, truck was a bit washed out due to some heavy rain we had, but this is a great little hike for beginners
Either direction this is a tough track for the moderate walker. You definitely need some fitness. The track is very steep in places and the climbs do feel like they go on forever. Great views back to Cairns tho
A beautiful trail in theory - as it stood in
This track is a steep start and then some more up and down. My partner and I found this underwhelming after reading the positive reviews. The track to the falls can be found (as people state about 500 paces after a water crossing where a bridge one was) on the right, poorly marked and you can spend most of the next 35 minutes wondering if you're lost. It is then a very steep clamber down to rocks and some pools, but nothing like a "infinity pool" as some described. You can then choose to take a bit more risk in order to get some photos of the falls, but mostly again it was underwhelming. I would not encourage people who are looking for a nice walk with a picturesque swim at the end to do this hike.
**The track certainly isn’t 20+ kms as this recording says, just an app glitch that seems to happen often.** All the elevation gain is in the first 2kms, then the track flattens out. You get an amazing view of the falls just after the track flattens, the look like they are still a very long way away, but it’s closer then it looks. Keep an eye out for the turn off for the track to the falls, marked with pink tape and some logs either side of the entry. From the turn off the track is narrow with some trees down in places, and plenty of wait a while. The last section down to the top of the falls is quite steep and lots of loose dirt and leaves. Stunning view from the top of the falls, it is possible to get to the base of the falls by climbing down the side, take care, it’s rather slippery on the smooth rocks. Saw a few snakes and some very big spiders! Plus a wonderful white lipped green tree frog!
Beautiful.
Awesome half-day hike with an epic waterfall. Trail is easy enough to find and follow in most parts. The first part along the fence line has pretty overgrown grass so you might want to bring your gaiters at the very least (pretty hard to see snakes in this section also). Some ribbons had fallen off or faded in the first section before the descent down to the creek (I put a few new bright pink ones up in the parts I couldn't see the trail - hope that helps a bit). Easy enough creek crossings but the second creek was still waist deep. Just over 2hrs to the waterfall and just under 2hrs back. Consider bringing a PLB as it's more off the beaten track. I didn't see anyone on this trail and was there for 6hrs. GPS signal is very poor at the waterfall (takes a little while for a drone to pick up signal and the sat device took AGES to send a message through due to the high valley wall). Definitely worth it :)
Fairly easy walk with some interesting rock formations. Track is dog friendly with views over Cairns. Parking available at both ends of the track.
The trail was easy to find. the entrance wasn't obvious but you enter on the right as you got to the small Windin Falls sign. the start of the trail runs along a farm fence before veering off into the bush. a few trees down so the track was sometimes hard to find or dense when you had to make your own path. With a bit more caution, this track is easy to follow due to the pink and orange markers, the waterfall was worth ever step, scratch and leech. Me and my 2 friends had no no navigation and found the track challenging but very doable. The incline back up was difficult and I wouldn't recommend for lower fitness levels or inexperienced hikers. I found some very useful blogs online about this hike. This trip took us 2.5 to the waterfall, an hours swim and then 2.5 back.
Good trail for beginners, a few hills to get the blood pumping but nothing to challenging. Be sure to take care on the descents, a few moist and pebbly areas present a slipping/falling hazard. The rock scramble to the falls should be done with caution as there are many loose and slippery rocks. A swim under the falls tops off a lovely hike.
Completed this walk last week 20/03. Trail was great, views stunning, leeches were a plenty. Only a few trees to navigate over and a bit of land slippage at the falls end. Excellent walk
The recording on all trails doesn't follow the track in places so that's a bit off putting. Gorgeous views and good size walk which is 4.2km return.
Attempted it yesterday but track was closed by Council that stated it will be closed for at least a few weeks
Post cyclone update: Tried to do this walk Sunday (7/3) but was foiled by big tree full of wait-a-while across the track about 1.5km from the starting point. Tried to go around but a ~3m Amethystine Python had some other ideas. Hopefully track gets cleared up soon.
