Great hike

So fun! Beautiful lake!

Hike up was beautiful. Moderate difficulty is a good description. Get there early. We parked at 630am and shared the entire walk up with one other person (and a quick bear sighting). On the way down we passed a ton of people. Parking lot was filled with people circling for spots at 12. Beautiful views at the top!

Did this hike yesterday! So enjoyable. I arrived around 7:30, I was one of three cars on the Monday morning. It felt like I had the trail all to myself for most of my ascent up. It was only until the last half of my lake loop and my descent down the trail, did I actually start to see more people and groups.

Seems to get packed quickly the later in the day it gets. I can’t imagine the traffic on a weekend. I was thankful that I wore my most water resistant boots. Some casual stream crossing, water fall gazing, and splashing around was well worth it. The trail was very well maintained and I personally enjoyed the mixture of man made bridges / stairs in contrast to the occasional array of rocks and stones.

Hiked today and it was gorgeous. I got there at about 7-7:30 and there weren't too many people there, but tons of people got there around 9 or so. Multiple waterfalls and incredible lake at the top. Definitely recommend hiking shoes if you have them. There's lots of walking on rocks, wet rocks, and over creeks. Also, don't forget to pay for parking or have a pass.

I've rated this with a lone one star: Upper Loop (2.2 miles) is a fairly steep incline to an unimpressive lookout view. On a positive note this hike was close to where we live and excellent for exercise to get your heart pumping! My legs are a bit sore .

Road up to trailhead is in good condition. Potholes as expected but plenty of room to maneuver around. Busy parking lot, make sure to get up there early! Trail is in great condition. Tennis shoes will get you to the top no problem now. A couple of very small snow patches to cross but nothing to be overly cautious about.

Arrived around 8am Sat morning and snagged the last parking spot. Small lot for such a popular spot. Apparently there's parking in the campground across the way. There are bathrooms at the TH. So just FYI...I found this a moderate ++ hike for me...I'm 70. Took me some time to get thru the rocky section mostly going up but coming down was really hard on my knees. Lots of tree roots and wet rock surfaces to maneuver. OK...enough. The trees are wonderful. awesome views, the smell of the forest, the waterfalls and the lake at the top with some lingering snow on the slope. All beautiful!!

The view is worth it. Small parking - must get early or after 2PM.

Such a beautiful and relatively easy trail. Went on it in May and there was still snow up at the lake. The trail itself is beautifully routed through the lush forest with multiple views of small waterfalls and grand views once you reach the portion of the switch backs. Be careful when walking on the log stairs as your foot may slip as mine did and you’ll take a log to the knee. But sore knee aside, this lake was truly breathtaking and the scenic drive out to it also matched in its beauty. You will need to purchase a North Forrest Park Pass prior to going as a heads up.

beautiful view

As of July 13th, 2018 the overlook at the top of the upper trail is CLOSED.

Notes for Newbies Like Me:
The Lower Loop is a good short hike, some small hills but overall good.
The Upper Loop is 2.2 trail. The first mile of that trail is completely uphill, it’s a pretty steep climb.

Beginner friendly trail. Just wear proper shoes. Beautiful and very scenic! If you bring your dogs, please keep them on a leash and clean up after them or that will only ruin it for all of us who are responsible dog owners that love hiking with them! Can get pretty crowded... make sure you get there as early as you can if you don't want to walk dodging crowds of people along the trail!!!

Nice wooded hike, definitely a glute workout!

The lake is absolutely beautiful! It is my favorite lake I have hiked to in Washington so far. The trail is rocky and was kind of wet in spots, which always makes me extra cautious. The waterfalls were an added bonus. I wish it wasn't such a busy trail, but it is easy to understand why it is.

Had a great day the trail varied from rocks, bridges, dirt the lake was gorgeous but cold we jumped off a rock on the far right side and it was amazing I will return again and I'm glad it was Tuesday because it was still well populated

Hiked on Sunday with my pup and a group of friends. Trail was rockier than expected and also pretty muddy. The bugs at the lake render it nearly impossible to take a break but the views are stunning nonetheless. I'm in good shape and it took me about 3 hours down and back with minimal breaks.

also: arrived at the parking lot at 9:30 and was lucky to find a spot. evidently later in the day cars were towed for parking on the street so get there early or late but not between 10-2!

Did this on Sunday afternoon (July 8th) to avoid the crowd, which turned out to be a good strategy. I arrived at the trailhead at about 6pm, and it took me about 75 minutes to get to the lake. Along the way there wan't much people around and there was a part that's very rocky, so watch your steps. As your approach the lake, you will see more and more mosquitoes so bring a spray. The lake is quite and clear. I give it 4 star because there isn't much else to see along the way up, but it is a pretty good workout.

beautiful hike on 4th of July! snow up to the meadow is very compact. follow the pink ribbon to stay on the trail. we continued past the meadow and up the peak for lunch which was beautiful. bring poles or prepare to "ski" down or, as I did, sled on my bum! it feels a bit exposed at some snowy areas with drop offs on the side, but totally doable and super fun.

made it to 4592 ft but had to turn around as we weren't prepared for the snow on the trail. Will go back again to complete whole loop. Its beautiful! July 6th a bit too early this year.

Very good trail. Not a lot of elevation, so good for beginners too. Remember to keep your bug spray

Good & easy hike. One negative would be how crowded it it. People should step to the side if they are going too slow.
Lake was gorgeous. We found a nice rock to get on for a nice rest & lunch. Snow on the ground added to the beauty of the lake.

Absolutely beautiful. It’s pretty steep on the way up but it is totally worth it. Definitely would like to go again.

Great loop trail with thigh burning climb. Trail is maintained by city. Parking lot is clean with bathroom on site. Will definitely hike again. Lower part of trail is perfect for trail running.

Beautiful trail, great stop offs and candid moments. The top is silencing and you’ll wish you had a picnic dinner with you to enjoy it. Just stunning!

Too busy for my taste! Great views, beautiful lake. Snow was a nice treat...kids can’t say we’ve never taken them to the mountains for snow now! ;) be prepared for some bugs at the start of the loop around the lake!

Great hike! It was busy today, but to be expected of July. The trail is in good condition. There is still some snow at the lake, which was an added bonus.
