amazing trail! definitely set aside an entire day to do this hike. we spent 10 hours hiking although had to park at south meadows lot instead of the lodge. trail is best done counter clockwise where you walk along avalanche lake and the hitch up mathilda’s on the way in and go back via the lake arnold trail

Great day hike! Beautiful waterfall views, moderately hard trek up but it’s a quick loop.

I can see why this hike is a lot of peoples favorite, including mine. Went up falling waters and came down old bridle, Whole loop took me and my Dog 7 hours with long breaks at the peaks. up falling waters trail was moderate in difficulty, my dog a Brittany Spaniel had no problems as he is an experienced hiker. Falling waters really inclines near little haystack. Perfect sunny weather, amazing views at the top really rewards you.

not easy but well worth it. beautiful mountain but you have to go early in the day

Fantastic scenery. Try and do the walk at sunrise or sunset. Avoid peak season if you can. If you have the time, combining this walk with Peekaboo Trail means you'll avoid a lot of the crowds.

It was my favorite hike I have ever done. The view at the top is beautiful and the falls on the way up are amazing as well. The trail is busier than others I have done in the past but definitely not as trafficked as I was expecting it to be. We did the hike in about 5.5 hours roundtrip but we were definitely moving quickly. I definitely will be doing this hike again!

This hike was challenging but so worth it! The views from the top are amazing!

Great hike, but very steep all the way up with lots of slippery rock surfaces. The dog did great. Bring shoes with good tread!

Great trail for a couple hour hike. Fun but also a challenge. Great work out. Some type of hiking shoes are best for section A. Does get congested that’s why it lost a star.

I loved this trail. It was hard though & I maybe found it more difficult as my last hike was in March so I had muscle soreness for a few days after & bad knees due to a fall. Nothing serious, just tired legs during the last 2 Miles. Amazing views throughout, the waterfalls are stunning. A very busy trail & need to get there early for prime parking. We ended up parking at the shuttle car park off exit 34c, which was fine. Took us 6 hrs 20, I’m in pretty decent shape & not been hiking for a good few months. We went up the falls trail & back on the old bridal path.

Great hike, really enjoyed it. We went up the long trail, which was steep in place & a decent bit of scrambling up to. I rather enjoyed this as I love climbing and haven’t been for a while. The views on the way up are stunning and the summit views are incredible. We didn’t stay up for long as there was a storm due. Highly recommended!!

Hiked after 2 days of passing storms, trail was muddy but not too challenging. The river crossings were shin to knee deep with moderate current. Well marked trails but All Trails app was useful. The toughest part of the hike was the ascent on the South Rim Trail. Beautiful scenery, nice stream and river crossings, and grade changes made for a nice hike. Roughly took 3.5 hours from the Coplan Road Parking Lot.

Quite boring. Nice views once you get to the top. Did it once and won’t be coming back.

Just hiked up and back today. Very pretty vista at the top (both the false and actual summit). Well worth the effort (moderately difficult). Relatively crowded, but a very pleasant experience nonetheless.

After all the rain the Southern Tier received this week, water levels were high but not exorbitantly so - you could still see the shale formations under the stream and behind the waterfalls, and many tributary creeks were flowing in the woods. Perfectly gorgeous hike on a beautiful, cool, party-sunny day, a rarity this summer! It was an excellent workout, too. I would very highly recommend these trails, and hope to come back soon.

Mt. Colden is the gift that doesn’t stop giving. It actually starts off pretty easy as far as high peak hiking is concerned. Do yourself a favor and ascend through avalanche lake/avalanche pass then come down through the loop. There are tons of ladders and quite a bit of scrambling up rock on the way up, but you’ll be glad you went up this way and not down as it is very very steep. We hiked it after the region experienced two straight days of rain so everything was wet and slippery. Even still it took us 10.5 hours round trip, and I imagine if it had been dry we could have done it in about 9. It is a fun trail though with all of the technical spots and quite beautiful on the way up. Avalanche lake was my favorite spot. We went through 4 liters of water each plus two gatorades. This was our second peak, Marcy being our first and the wife and I both agreed that it was easier and more fun than Marcy. Be prepared for the scramble at the end, there are some hand and foot holds to go off and it’s a short section but if exposure isn’t your thing maybe try to hit some other peaks first to get used to it

Tough hike however worth it. Various terrain with many different views. We added the cold run spur with this loop which added an additional 1.5 miles. Would definitely consider doing this again.

I would consider this moderate to diffiicult. The way up the mountain was steep and rocky. Got a great workout.

One of my favorite hikes! So beautiful, the entire time I just couldn’t stop gawking over all the waterfalls. Definitely recommend! Not too hard if you are in decent shape and can climb stairs. Also gotta reiterate to wear shoes with good traction and waterproof if possible! To get the best views and shots you have to hike down/climb back up in mud/on slippery rocks. Highly recommend!

It was a tough climb, but we had awesome views most of the way up, we also added RPR. Check out my full write up with pictures and things to look out for.

Great short hike. Water running fast because of recent rains. Beautiful camping park

Beautiful trail with lots of cool spots for photos. Very challenging too especially after a rain the night before. Tou have to watch your every step. The waterfalls was indeed a treat.

Best in Maryland!

Hiked it in the rain today, couldn’t see more than ten feet in front of you up top. I honestly loved it, it wasn’t too hot or too cold, I didn’t find it challenging either. I frequently hike Monadnock and I think that’s a more challenging hike. We did get a bit lost and did 12 miles instead of the 8.5, but it only took us 6.5 hours

I loved this trail!! So fun and exciting, lots of little obstacles to climb over, my dog loved it! I would however consider this a moderately difficult trail, can be slippery in some spots, especially near the waterfall parts

We went after some heavy rains & it was breathtakingly beautiful!

This trail is rated as moderate but for me it was difficult. I’m not an avid hiker, not in exceptional shape, and when I went it was a heat advisory day so that all factors into my “difficult” rating. I completed this hike solo and enjoyed being alone with my thoughts in the surrounding. I went early on a Monday morning and the trail was not crowded at all. It was very serene, therapeutic, and relaxing with all the waterfalls. I hiked the trail so I saved the largest waterfall for the end of the hike. I spent time at each waterfall and rested a few times and the hike took me approx. 3 1/2 hours. It was a great solo hike to be alone with your own thoughts.
