The perfect escape from the city! It was 90° today but we could take refuge in the abundant shade and water so it worked well! I recommend coming out on a weekday to avoid the traffic. We will be back for sure!

Wide, well groomed-trail. Most of it is grass and the rest is dirt through wooded areas. VERY buggy but if you wear your DEET, they'll leave you alone. The DNR does an excellent job of trail marking. Every 50-100 yards or so there is a post telling you which color trail you are on so it's pretty hard to get lost. Did the orange today (6 miles) and it was a great hike.

I absolutely love hiking here, but the people are absolute slobs. I’ve been going here since I was a kid and I brought my kids there yesterday and they were quite upset about the MASSIVE amount of garbage everywhere. They need to implement some serious litter prevention. Ban all disposable water bottles being the first, I’ve never seen so much trash at a park like this. It’s depressing.

I was pleasantly surprised with Starved Rock. It is awesome that all of the trails connect and you can decide what paths to take and loop all over. The canyons were sweet and picturesque.
It was an absolute zoo when we finished at 11am. Totally nuts. Would recommend getting there as early as possible to avoid crowds. We got there at 8am.
Do go hike, it's the best the area has to offer.

Good hike. Lots of trails branching off the main ones. Worn paths with quite a few overgrown areas. As long as you stay on the path that looks the most worn and widest, you'll be able to complete it accurately. Took us just over an hour to do. We tracked this as just under 4 miles.

Mattheisen State Park is less well-known than it’s nearby counterpart, Starved Rock, so there is usually less of a crowd. While the trails are not as well marked, the Lake Falls Dam Waterfall is breathtaking and can be seen from the bridge at the top and down below at the base. This is one of my favorite areas to hike. Definitely a must see if you are in the area.

Love this trail. You can rent bikes, swim, buy a kite, rent jet skis or paddle boats and stop for a bit or a beer or a coffee.

Really nice trail with easier and harder options.

Awesome trail! Going back soon to explore more of the park. Beautiful views, beautiful waterfalls and an excellent place to explore. Can't wait to go back!

We were in the area and my husband is a fan of fire towers so definitely had to go. Was a nice walk with great views.

Beautiful Love all the flowers & Butterflies

A great hike you can enjoy getting lost on. It’s easy to find your way back and it’s got some good scenery. Especially for a flat Wisconsin area, it’s a fun trek.

This has been (and continues to be) a favorite of mine for several years.

That place is so beautiful I loved

Definitely going to give a work out of some technical skills. The ride today at 5:30am was quiet and fast. It took some doing to access the trails due to the actual park gates being closed til 7am. There were numerous tree felled that block most of the trail crosses along Pike River. But with some effort, work your way up the ravine and it’s pretty good!

Arrive early (by 10am?) on weekends so you can park at the main parking lot. We had to park in the overflow area and it was an extra mile hike across a sunny field to get to the Dells area.

The Dells were beautiful!

This park is amazing with caves you can walk through and waterfalls galore! We did seem to go on a trail that led to a equestrian trail and not the loop, but there are signs that say which way to stay on the hiking trail loop. Overall great experience, even though it absolutely down poured during our visit.

Perfect for biking and running as long as you keep moving to avoid the mosquitos. Great scenery and plenty of trail!

Beautiful place to lose yourself in nature!

Nice easy paved trail. Heavily used. Not well marked but lots of alternative paths. Great views of mansions, lake, marina and skyline.

Quiet and hilly grass loop trails that regularly intersect. I’m directionally challenged so needed to refer to the app regularly to stay on course. I went right after it rained and the mosquitoes were rampant.

It's an amazing place with tons of different trails with different levels of difficulty. My favorite place to go by far.

Nice for running or biking. Very clear and straight path. Clusters of bugs because of stagnant water from creek so not great for walks/hiking.

Easy access hiking from the Superior Hiking Trail parking lot, very well marked, well maintained loop. By my GPS, the loop was about 3.2 miles from the parking lot and back. It is a different loop than shown on the trail description, but not hard to navigate. I am traveling through (not local) and grateful for the ease of this trail - thanks to the folks who put the work in to make it so nice!

nice, low end of moderate, hike with nice views of Duluth and the harbor. well-marked trail with shade from trees on most of the trail. the wildflowers were just starting to bloom!

Wouldn’t really consider this hiking, most trails are built into the landscape with wooden platforms and stairs. It’s a nice shady hike though that is not very challenging. There are some good spots for scenery and photos. Also lots of trash throughout, people need to learn to pick up after themselves.

Canyons, waterfalls, sand dune, streams and River. This trail has everything! Its not very challenging but very scenic and much of trails are covered with tall trees. Makes for nice cool trail running during warmer month. At first , a good chunk of trails seems over made with wood and concrete but I believe those are necessary for masses to safely enjoy canyons and water falls. After while, its not that obtrusive.
Overall great place to hike and enjoy.

Very nice, good trail for family. Paths are easy to follow. Can get very crowded during peak times, so go early if possible.
