This hike was amaze-inggg! It was a little harder than I thought it would be, but that might be because I went in the afternoon on a hot day. I loved the views, the water crossing and the lake at the end (definitely went swimming). I took my dog and his feet got hot in the darker dust, we had to take a lot of breaks and I carried him for a bit. I keep dreaming about it and plan to do it again!

Really crowded which makes sense because it's not too strenuous or long so kids can come.

very very muddy right now. We didn't want to slip so we didn't climb down the rock to see the falls. Really pretty hike and worth it for sure.

fun hike, gorgeous lake and pretty flowers

Had a great hike. Gets a little step and rocky before the waterfall. It's quite refreshing once you get there. My 6 year old was able to make it.

This was our 3rd hike since moving to Salt Lake City. I would highly recommend this trail if you are a moderate hiker. The topography was my favorite so far. The tall trees cover most of the hike and you constantly have beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. It isn’t too intense for anyone and the view of the city is amazing once your up there.

My husband and I hiked this trail for the first time two days ago--excellent hike! On the way up it's a slow burn through the trees, with lots of gorgeous flowers. We started at 5 am and were able to enjoy seeing the sun slowly fill Primrose Cirque while ascending. After getting through the trees, the views are spectacular. We also saw many waterfalls, and wound up crossing one at least three times on the way up. We decided to turn back before going up into the trees leading to Emerald Lake, because we'd heard from others coming down that the ice field was too dicey to go through. Again, it being our first time going up, we decided to call it a day and headed back down. We will definitely try this again later in the season when the snow is melted more!

This was pretty good. Well maintained trail with only a few rocky sections. The view at the top was great, but difficult to enjoy due to bugs and lack of sitting places.

pretty lake!!

bring water shoes!

amazing views! very steep and will kick your butt! the only thing that would make it better is a nice creek.

The actual mileage is 5.2, but its super relaxing; gets a little crowded so I would make sure to start by 0700. The scenic overlook is good, but not as good as Living Room (though the hike is better).

A lot of doggos. So many good boys.

Always a great, quick hike. Hot hot hot so bring water.

Mostly up hill but has some nice reprieve with switch backs and flatter parts. A mix of shady and exposed. The lake was beautiful and it wasn’t too trafficked. Round trip took me about 5.5 hours including a nice break at the top. Love this hike.

Decided to go for a hike as it was my first full day in Utah. Just know there are three parking lots that all lead to these falls so remember the way you went up/need to go down- I spent 30 minutes walking around trying to find my car. The hike up was beautiful, difficult at times and flat at times. At the end, the last .7 miles are extremely tough but then you’re rewarded with the waterfall. Highly recommend.

The route up is an access road so it’s rocky, wide, and very exposed to the sun. The lake itself is nice. There are very limited tent sites if you’re planning on staying the night.

It’s a beautiful overlook. Steeper than you think but short. There’s street parking at the trailhead.

We ended up picking a really hot day to do this one and it was a little miserable at parts; I'd like to come back on a cooler day, probably it'd get a better rating after that. Looking at other reviews, I guess we didn't make it past the first stage of the hike, but we were looking for something wheelchair accessible so we might not have been able to enjoy the nicer parts anyway. We did see some wildlife--birds and butterflies, mostly. Pretty high traffic, there were even cars driving on the trail.

This was a good hike! Not too steep not too difficult! Gorgeous views and we saw a moose right next to the trail.

Awesome hike. Great views and enough of a challenge to keep the heart rate up. Hiked up at a pretty good pace (but stopped to take pics a few times) and took about 50 mins to get to the falls. Ran back down at a moderately fast pace and it took a little less than half the time it took to get up. Map estimate of distance is right on - my gps said 4.45 miles for the out and back.

beautiful lake, beautiful trail. it is steep and quitr demanding. I was breaking in a new backpacking pack and had a lot of unnecessary weight, so that was a huge factor. I think that if I'd done it with half the weight, it wouldn't have felt so hard. we were stopped by a big bull moose on the trail, and the trail is popular enough our group went from two to almost twenty whole we waited for him to move away. he took his sweet time and we sat around for about 20 to 30 minutes. :) i

It was a good trail and a great workout. I definitely recommend it, but not for kids under 12. we saw lots of kids who pooped out before the end (or less than a mile into the trail) and were riding piggy back. Also, bring plentu of water. it is shaded in the morning, but it was hot with minimal shade in the afternoon. It's "hard" for a reason. don't punish your kids or yourself.

Great hike this time of year, be aware THE LAKE HAS NOT BEEN DRAINED. The water levels can get low this time of year especially with dry conditions, but Red Pine and White Pine do have water in them.

Magic is the only word.

Nice short hike to the falls. Trail is shadded well and not super rocky but it gets over crowded real quick, so go early to avoid the crowd and to have the falls all to your self.

Amazing quick hike with a terrific view. Would like to explore this area more.

Fantastic hike, well worth the effort to get there. Took my 2 kids (10 & 14) and though they were tired going up, the lake was their favorite! Would definitely do this hike again. Make sure you bring 3+ liters of water! So many people on the trail today ran out while still high up. One gentleman was completely out of water on the upper switchbacks and nearly fell off a steep incline right in front of us! We were able to grab him in time, sit him down, give him some water, electrolytes and a fruit bar, and he was apparently okay, but they had no food and he looked to be in serious shock. Though a relatively short hike, it’s hot and strenuous at times. Loved it!

So beautiful along the whole trail. Amazing flowers and plenty of shade. Easy for small kids.

great for the dogs. Best to do in the morning or evening because it is very exposed.

a fun and easy trail

Short and easy hike. The only tough part was climbing the rocks to get a better view of the falls at the top. Saw a moose (!!!!) and tons of chipmunks along the way. I went on a Sunday around 11am and it was pretty crowded, but there were still plenty of parking spots on big cottonwood canyon road. From there I walked the .75ish miles on the paved road (FR019) to the trailhead.
