Amazing views, interesting and diverse tracks, nice huts.

Very fortunate in that we only had one day of rail, the last day. Well maintained trail and huts. I’m looking forward to other tracks on my next visit. Thank you New Zealand for a great vacation.

One of my favorite hikes. I did this back in April and it was great! The huts and path are all well maintained and it was a nice little challenge. Not too difficult but challenging at times due to ice and snow

My first multi-day hike! I wasnt sure which of the great walks to do, I only had time for one and my friend who hiked New Zealand for 3 months highly recommended Routeburn. It was absolutely stunning and a definite highlight of my time in New Zealand. I did it right at the end of the season and really enjoyed it. I was lucky to find spots available in the huts, I booked it a month ahead of time and if I wasn't going alone there wouldn't have been enough free beds.

Such a good Great Walk catered to fit people who want to try something new. Just make sure you have really good shoes because the final decent on the first day is really steep and it can be very slippery if wet.

Beautiful trail with unreal views of the surrounding mountains. Get a permit many months in advance! We did the 2d1n and stayed in the lodge. If you end up reserving a lodge spot, make sure to have/rent a sleeping pad, warm sleeping bag, and pillow. And bring plenty of snacks! Unfortunately we didn't make it to the summit for sunrise (or at all) because of high winds, but the experience was still incredible.

We did this in 2017 and loved it - very lucky to have clear weather to enjoy the forests, lakes and waterfalls, incredibly beautiful and a good challenging hike

Absolutely stunning vistas, we were incredibly lucky with the weather - 3 bluebird days to enjoy incredible scenery. A good challenging hike

Lucky with brilliant clear views on the way up. Knee high snow for about the last hour made for a lung-buster, but gorgeous, nonetheless. Probably took me 3hrs to the top with plenty of picture snapping. Made some coffee at the hut, then back down in about 2hrs. Low visibility on the way down, but plenty of my own tracks to follow, and fun snow tromping. Even if you only get to the top of the stairs section and don't go all the way to the hut--go for it. I think anyone could accomplish the stair part, if they take their time and just enjoy it.

Did this in Nov 17, lovely track.. If you saw what on the NewZealand.com adv, it us what you will be seeing there. Fantastic sightseeing, but It was hard for me 4 days of walking, best to travel light and carry pain killer, just in case you need it for the sore feet. Wooly for the feet and Vaseline work best. But it is a once in a lifetime experience

Hard track with 1941 steps and after it's almost climbing

The view is awsome !

Did this track in Feb 2016 and bloody loved it. I choose to do it in three days but in hindsight would next time take the four days.

when it says this track is used heavily it sure is popular which makes booking essential but the beauty is you are on it with 40 or less people at a time.

I walked solo and had no-one near me through the day, but if you want company you can easily have it.

I based in TE Anau and drove up into MIlford sound two days before to have a good look around. Glad I did as I got in on the last day and it was getting dark.

This walk is beautiful and so is getting to and out of it. You won't ever regret it.

The track is safe and easy so you can Definatly do it solo and don't need to be guided.

The huts are second to none and are equipped with bed mats, gas for cooking, heating and water for washing up.

Ran this track with dad in 1 day it was awesome :) Gotta love enjoying gods creation and the freshest air every

I have walked the Track twice with Ultimate Hikes Guided Walks and still rate it one of the best Walks I have ever done.
I shared the experience with friends on both occasions and we had good weather that included snow on the Mackinnon Pass on the 2nd occasion
Both my trips were in November and the only downside was the Sandflies that pestered you (take bushmans deet if you can cope with it )
The track can be very wet and dangerous if you are on your own so I can heartily recommend the Ultimate Hikes Guided Walk for the ultimate in 5 star hiking!!!

Magnificent. Beautiful rain forest, bridge crossings, waterfalls. Unfortunately snow closed the pass the night before so we couldn't complete the full track but we hope to come back and finish it off next year.

Had a perfect day with clear skies. 3ish hours to the hut. Three exploring up there. And 3.5 down

Great views. Fair bit of exposure after Harris Saddle. Faced unusually heavy rain fall, hail and snow while camping in mid April 2018. Otherwise enjoyable.

not as wonderful as all the hype! I took the aquataxi from Marahau to Barks Bay and then hiked back to Marahau. 15 miles later, I can tell you that the hike was mostly through the bush which is very thick and as such, very, very limited, to no, views of the ocean. so if you like the beauty of the bush, then you will love this coast track. if you want more views of the surrounding mountains and ocean, you will be disappointed! the hike was a combination of flat areas and some steep inclines.

Absolutely love the Routeburn... I’ve done it twice with my two daughters (11 & 13) so many highlights.

Most amazing hike I've ever done. The views are spectacular but be prepared for LOTS of rain and very technical/rough terrain. This is definitely not a hike for beginners and day 2 is rough. That being said, it's the most amazing trek I've ever done in my life and I can't wait to do another Great Walk in New Zealand.

I was fortunate to hike this trail on a semester abroad to NZ. Amazing trail, some of the best views I’ve ever had.

A fantastic, but challenging one day 25km hike from Routeburn to Harris Saddle and back. Conical Hill is a must, the views were incredible. Even got to see Milford Sound.

punishing hike. the first 2/3 is pretty but the view is a bit monotonous. the real reward is reaching the ridge and hooking back towards Mueller hut for the glaciers and unrivaled view of Aoraki.

Hiked this in end of February so nice weather ! Started in Anchorage and ended in Marahau, 12.4km. The beginning was very very steep and sun exposed. But the rest of the trail was level, and shaded. Lots of bees on the trail, not sure if a seasonal thing. Very pretty views, but would rate it as moderate not easy !

This hike was definitely the highlight of our trip to the South Island! The trail begins with stairs and turns to rocks and boulders roughly halfway up. The view gets better the entire way. This can definitely be done as a day hike but I highly recommend booking a bunk at the Mueller Hut in advance or bringing up a tent. Listening to the avalanches and star gazing was something I won’t soon forget. Make sure to scramble up Mt Ollivier for a great 360 view and a view of the hut from above.

The second half after Sealy Tarns and the zillion stairs is one long rock scree scramble with a few boulders thrown in. Awesome!

Definitely not “easy” if you are bringing a pack. Routeburn is listed as “hard” and is 10 miles less and the same total elevation gain. I personally prefer a steady gradual climb with a steady gradual decline (Routeburn) rather than 10-15 steep up and down climbs that Abel Tasman has. If you are bringing a large pack or have bad knees - be ready for a much more difficult hike than All Trails makes it out to be. Still an amazing hike though, and some incredible jungle to ocean views. Bring jandals or an extra pair of shoes though - because you’ll get your feet wet.

Great hike. First half stair climb to Sealy Tarns then rock scramble path to the hut. Doable as a day trip but the sunset/sunrise from the hut was spectacular.
