Great day hike and close to home.

Great day for a hike:) Mount Major did not disappoint!

Hiked the boulder loop and brook trail today. It was beautiful and the foot traffic was very light. weekdays seem to be an ideal time to hike Mt Major. The summit was freezing and windy, but the fall colors were still beautiful.

beautiful short hike with amazing fall at the end!

One of the best hikes in the Lake area. It is definitely more on the easy side, but it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding lakes with minimal effort.

great short walk with beautiful views

Took the yellow trail up which was awesome for the dog lots of flowing water and big rocks to make it easy to climb up. After reaching the summit looped back down on blue, which was shorter but much steeper with a lot of smooth rock. To say the least it was not as enjoyable back down but the way up was great

This was a fun hike, trails are well maintained and blazed, until you get about 200 yards from the summit and the blazes are on rock and rather hard to find but makes for a fun climb. would rate it as moderate.

Beautiful views for minimal effort. Don't expect any challenge unless you are a very new hiker, the trail should be rated as easy. Gorgeous though!

did this hike today with my 5 month old puppy, what a great hike. beautiful falls at the top and enjoyed friendly fellow hikers on our trek.

This isn’t an easy hike! It requires crossing some creeks with no bridges and the trail is very muddy/wet in parts. Don’t attempt it without waterproof hiking boots.

That said, it’s a good hike. Very quiet and peaceful out in the woods, and I hardly saw anyone all day.

Like all the hikes around Cold Spring, it’s well marked with color tokens nailed to trees. Take a map at the trailhead, as the Alltrail route jumps around between different color trails a lot.

The first 3.6 miles are a general ascent on a good trail. The next two miles (a mile descent and mile ascent) is on an ok but less good trail that includes some mossy rocks that are slick when wet.

At mile 5.6, you reach a peak and have a big lookout area to the left of the trail. It’s a nice place to stop and have lunch.

Around mile 6.4, make a short detour to Beaver Pond. It’s beautiful and the trail goes right to it.

Miles 6.4-8 were my least favorite. The trail gets very narrow in places, with branches pressed against you on both sides. It was also extremely muddy.

Around mile 8, I decided to divert from this route and cut back over to the trail I’d walked up, rather than climb up Round Hill. The ascent and descent of Round Hill are by far the steepest part on this route, and a review here said it involves walking on big rocks. I knew the park’s rock surfaces were wet and slick today and it didn’t sound like fun. My rerouting didn’t meaningfully change the mileage, though it meant I missed some elevation. It turns out I could’ve also cut across further along on the “G” trail, as they’ve just lengthened that trail all the way to the “W” trail.

In case it’s useful, here are the full route’s colors: W, right on B, left on Y, right on B, B becomes R, right on B (but I recommend walking left on B a bit to see Beaver Pond), straight on R, right on G, left on B, left on W.

I like how it weaves together lots of different trails to make a long hike, which you can modify to make your hike easier or even harder.

Beautiful peaceful hike along the falls, colors spectacular. Bridal Veil Falls a bit fogged in but still able to see the top of falls through the breaks in the fog

I was honestly not as impressed with this hike as I thought I would be. We took the blue trail up, which was slightly steep but was also pretty slick on the rock parts. We went down the yellow trail which was either all mud or flowing water. Towards the end of the hike there were crowds of people starting up the trail. The view at the top was awesome and worth it since the hike was decently short and easy but not as difficult as I expected

Great trail with gorgeous views of the falls

Very good trail for hiker enthusiasts. Semi difficulties at some rocky spots. The view on the top is amazing. Will do again

Really pretty hike, great views. Any age can climb. Takes about 1.5-3 hours.

Great views from the top and a few spots on the way. We went up the blue trail and came back the yellow. Very crowded in the lot but not terrible on the trail. Assent was rockier and more difficult than I anticipated but loved it and totally worth it.

Ahhh what an amazing view at the top! This hike is a must! We went up the blue trail which was pretty rocky but made it interesting and on the way down we went with the yellow trail which was way more relaxed, not rocky at all, it follows a pretty stream down (definitely easier in your knees)! The loop took us 3 hrs with some time at the top. I wouldn’t recommend hiking this with a baby on your back unless you did strictly the yellow trail... after hiking all season with my child I was glad I didn’t have her for this one. Overall very nice hike... fall time is busy but we went early enough where we didn’t really get stuck in any crowds... however when we got back to the parking lot it was full along with each side of the road with cars for about a mile - it was crazy!

Nice and easy 5.0 mile Out and Back. Trail is in great shape, no mud. Took the whole family and even the 3 year old had no trouble. Not too steep! Not too rocky, it's just right!

Beautiful views as you approach the summit!

Great hike up on the blue trail. Beautiful views of the lake from summit. Yellow trail down was more gentle on the knees. What a day spent with ling-time friends

Beautiful views

Stunning view

Easy walk to the falls. A few steps that are a little steep. Very rewarding!!

Amazing view. Moderate hiking.

Such a fun and manageable hike! Definitely recommend going up the blue an down the yellow, because the blue gets a little steep at the top! Such gorgeous views at the summit!!
