Amazing hike gorgeous views (even with all the smoke). Did some fishing at ball lake. would be a perfect fly fishing spot. Pyramid lake had some flat camp spots. would love to camp next time we go up.

Nice hike and was able to hike up to lower ball lake with a 1 year old and 2 month old. when we went there was a little bit of snow once we got past pyramid lake but it was easy to get by. it was a bit chilly, definitely not warm enough to jump in and swim though I can see how ball lake would be a great spot if the weather is right. saw a few backpackers that were hiking in to camp. looked like a lot of fun!!

This hike was amazing!!!!!!
I highly recommend this hike to anyone who wants to fish or hike two to 3miles. It was a beautiful trail. If you are looking for a good up hill trail, that is well worth walking, you just found it.

Very mellow hike with multiple lakes and beautiful views. Highly recommend

It’s a good trail but a bit tough. Your going to want an experienced horse if you are riding. Or be in shape if hiking. There is some ups and downs and both Trout Lake and Fisher Lake have steep, rocky pitches coming down into the lake, with amazing lake views.
There appeared to be a lot of fish jumping at Fisher Lake and that’s where we had our lunch, sitting on the rocks. Beautiful.
We rode in on July 28, 2018. A day trip only. I believe it’s about 5 miles to Fisher Lake.

Great hike. You have to hike up the logging road past the locked gate about 1.3 miles to the trailhead. Some downed trees over trail but easy to maneuver over. Still a lot of water running across the trail if you have dogs. Beautiful views. Bring bug spray!

I drove up to Roman Nose Lakes yesterday to scout it for an upcoming hike with a friend. The bridge closure is easily circumvented by going into Bonner's Ferry northbound on Highway 95 and turning left just before crossing the Kootenai River Bridge. The road goes through the old downtown section and then along the river, and finally crosses the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge. Ignore several signs saying that Snow Creek Bridge is closed, as you needn't cross it going this way. When you get to the mountainside on the refuge after crossing the flats, take a left onto a dirt road and go a couple of miles until you get to the closed bridge. Snow Creek Road goes up the hill at this point and you can drive all the way to the lakes. Smoke from fires in Washington was bad down in the valley, but thinned out up high.

Just spent a couple nights of camping in area and then hiked up to Hidden Lake from trial head. It was about 1 mile to the lake and it was beautiful. Easy hike. Would love to explore more next time and hike further! Well worth it!!! Such beautiful woods! Wasn’t too busy either for Sun-Tuesday.

Just a quick update on the road to Roman nose. Closed during construction on part of the way up. Until 8/2 the road by the animal conservation, just past the railroad tracks was blocked due to bridge work. Locals said there was a way to drive around to the back side but it could possibly have a gate across the road. We couldn't find it. Bummer...another day Roman nose!

7/5/18
Very little snow remains along ridges and summits in the area. Popular Trout lake lives up to its name! . Granite domes along the ridges have large cirques that support lakes. Lots of beetle kill in the forests. Big Fisher Lake was awesome and isolated and the summit above it offers a nice view of Pyramid and other high peaks in the region.

Unseasonably cool for July, but that meant No Bugs...50 degrees and cloudy. Possibly also the reason we pretty much had the trail to ourselves.

Although we didn’t make it to the top- the avalanche snow field at the halfway point didn’t bode well for us since we did not have crampons, yak tracks or snow shoes- and we sunk about 2 feet into the snowfield- we did enjoy the hike to that point because no bugs and no people are a great combination!

Lower part of the trail to Pyramid Lake was quite easy....it seems much steeper heading up to Ball Lake.

Even short hikes provide opportunities to explore new places and the beauty of the alpine lake and the wilderness... definitely worth another trip to make it to the Ball Lakes at the top!

Great hike near Bonner’s Ferry. My first hike around here. Looking forward to more majestic views of Idaho in the weeks to come.

A group of us tried to go to this Lake. We used Google and allowed it to give us a directions it took us in the path of least resistance as if we were just common crows do not use Google to get to this Lake. To find the directions to this Lake use the directions from Idaho conservation. Org and if that doesn't work stop at the General Store in Naples they will give you a map and offer friendly customer service. Once we receive the right directions the road is easy yet long but by the time we got there there was rain coming down wind and the temperature was cold so no camping. but would like to come back later in the summer

My favourite hike!!! Super easy too.

Great trails and fantastic views. Takes a while to get drive there but the views are worth it. We walked around the first lake and then took the scenic loop to get a better view. Still snow in some spots and the kids enjoyed throwing it at each other. Overall great hike.

This trail is always busy and the road to get up there is pretty rough. Once you get past HIdden Lake though you won't really run into other hikers. If you want to hike further there is a great little cabin that is free to stay at (West Fork Lake Cabin). It's first come first served and sleeps 4. This hike is moderate and you can definitely get it done in one day.

Can't comment on the trail had to turn around 4 miles before the parking due to heavy logging lots of debris and ruts soft spots.

This is great trail. Yes you go through where they logged but once past that the trail is awesome. There still snow in the upper elevations but when it’s 60 out it’s a lot of fun.
Both lakes are amazing. They have their own beauty. I highly recommend this hike!

Spent father's day weekend up on the trail.
Amazing scenery the whole way. Trout lake is gorgeous and the camp site was nice. Make sure to bring water purifier so that you don't have to carry all your water in with you.The trail rating is appropriately rated so be prepared for a long ascent in the begining.

Hiked to the lake with the Boy Scout Troop for a quick 1 day/1 night trip. We had anticipated having some spotty snow on the ground at the lakes, and hoped to do some rock climbing practice in the area. However, we hit the snow line less than 1/2 mile into the hike and were looking at 8-10 inches by the time we reached the lakes. The biggest surprise was that the lake was quite solidly frozen over already.
We had to break trail through the snow on the way up, but we found it pretty easy to follow the route. Plenty of bridges over the marshy areas and orange ribbons showed the way. The temperature ranged from the upper 20s to the upper 50s while we were out, so the snow was soft and wet during the daylight hours, and frozen over during the night. Majestic views of the mountains and beautiful landscape made this a worthwhile outing.

Great trail, views and lakes that are seen vs the effort to get to them is unmatched in the area. Starting to have a little snow cover and we saw a bunch of small black bear tracks on the trail.

Hiked on 10/7/17. Snow on all trails, but still easy to ID trails. Great views at both lower and upper lakes. Camped overnight at lower lake. Five established campsites, all with nice pads for tents. Four have only one pad -- one has three. This group site is located with lots of parking and vault toilet.
VERY well maintained trails -- obviously lots of work to prevent water erosion. Wood boardwalks at both upper and lower lakes -- nice touches.
Long drive -- figure at least an hour from Naples cutoff.

Great overnight backpacking trip! Took the wrong turn finding the trailhead but that was our falt. Awesome lakes surrounded by high granite peaks of the Selkirk Mountain Range.

If you're interested in this hike, I made a video of the trip and you can find it at: https://youtu.be/GjWZR1K1Fr4

Or just search for the lakes on YouTube and you should find it. Leave a thumbs up and subscribe if interested. Lots more to come!

Flat, easy trail but pretty boring when compared to some of the other incredible trails nearby. I won't go back but glad I did it once.

Incredible colors, fantastic atmosphere, dog friendly, and fun for all levels! Can't wait to go back :)
